Unless it was on loan I seriously doubt that the club would sanction a move of that money (i'd presume Sunderland would want close to the money they paid a few months back) in January, not least when he's really no better than what we've got.

He would be a good addition to the midfield.
Certainly increase the competition for places and give Hodgson another option.
I would be happy for him to sign but do agree we probably wont pay the money!

I carnt see us paying 5 million for him, but he is a good player, scored some good goals from Brum last season.

Is he any better than Dorrans and Morrison? I don't think so. He's not a bad player, and has a good shot on him - and would be a good sub, so I guess it depends on the price.

IF we sell Dorrans to Rangers for £5 million, then I'd try getting Gardner in for £3 million and see how it goes, I know he never got on with O'Neill at Villa and may want to return to the Midlands, so the balls in our court I believe.

twice the player dorrans is. gardner is a proven premiership player. dorrans isn't.

Gardner cant drift past players like Dorrans can.

I really don't see what Gardner brings to a team, bar his ability to shoot from outside the box. Other areas of his game are very average, in my opinion. Reminds me of Darron Gibson.

No one will be able to convince me this Seal reject is better than Dorrans. Dozza is far more creative and talented than Gardner who is a one trick pony with his long shots - his is an even worse Frank Lampard.

even worse, you make lampard sound like he's a mug. he's constantly scored 20 goals a season for as long as i can remember, but back on track, gardner would be aq decent signing and an improvement on dorrans for me,

full back/s a far more pressing issue for me though

Wouldn't be an improvement on what we already have, so what would be the point?

Fair play he could take a good pen.

hopefully they give it a miss - he doesn't start for sunderland who look well below us in the pecking order... prefer to see thorne as the backup option to mulumbu/dorrans/scharner/morrison in the centre of the pitch...

Not good enough for me, I prefer Dorrans and am willing to give him time.  It also sends out a bad message to Thorne who has just completed a successful loan spell at Pompey (read their message boards they rave about him)

Surfaced again:

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/Exclusive-West-Brom-in-pole-position-to-land-Sunderland-ace-Craig-Gardner-article848120.html

I suppose if Dorrans wants off then he'd be ok. Would much prefer Dorrans out of the two though. A Dorrans who wants to be here that is.

I'd be very happy with Gardner. Would provide much needed cover in midfield with injuries and Dorrans maybe going.

I nearly choked when i read that too !!
We only paid a fee for one player didn't we and that was i think an initial £4.5 rising to £6.5 ?
Bear in mind we received £4.5 for Valero we had a net spend of £0 naff all....and now all that's gone !!....my backside

Gardener is a fair player and scored some important goals for Blues last year.
Id prefer a pacy winger myself but there you go.

Whilst agreeing that Dorrans is an excellent player he has never really produced his best for us in the prem, will he?, who knows we are not a strong enough squad to wait around Gardiners proven ability gives him the edge for me.

Possibly they are saying 'extras' like Petes pay rise came out of the transfer budget?
