Just goes to show how quickly things can go wrong.

Talent is one thing but attitude is more important.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Under the Hawthorns Lights
« on: October 30, 2012, 10:49:50 AM »
With our next home match being played against Southampton next Monday I thought a thread with our favourite and worst nights have been at the Hawthorns.

It seems ages since we last played a league game at late kick off, might not of done since we have ben back in the Premier League but there is something I really enjoy about night matches at the Hawthorns. Walking up to the ground seeing the unique leaning floodlights overhanging the pitch, games that always seems to generate a decent atmosphere and generally great moments, whether in league, cup or Europe.

Best moment for me would probably be beating the Wolves in the play-offs. Even though we didn't get promoted it was a great match; pre-match nerves, great atmosphere, KP scoring right in front of them, Sodje nearly scoring an own goal then running back to clear it off the line straight after scoring and running onto the pitch and rubbing the Dingles noses is it at the final whistle.

Worst would either be losing to Wimbeldon under Megson the second season we went up when they brought something daft like 17 fans. After absolutely battering them for the entire game they scored on the break pretty late on. Another would probably be drawing to Palace in the Great Escape. Earshaw scored right on 90 minutes to make it 2-1 only for them to get that freekick that seemed to balloon over everyone and go in. Thank god that didn't cost us at the end of the season.

What are you best and worst moments under the Hawthorns lights?

General Football & Sports / Wembley Stadium in Sponsorship Deal
« on: September 10, 2012, 09:09:16 PM »
Wembley Stadium is in advance talks with up to five companies over a possible naming rights deal.

But BBC Sport understands that the iconic venue will keep the traditional Wembley name as part of any agreement.

Those involved in the negotiations are said to be sensitive about the name's heritage and history.

But a change to the naming structure could see a sponsor added to the venue's official name beside or after "Wembley Stadium".

Wembley National Stadium Limited (WNSL), the venue operators and a subsidiary of the Football Association, declined to comment on the talks.

A clue as to how any commercial partnership may look to the public may be seen with the naming arrangements at Wembley Arena.

The Arena, which is not owned by WNSL, added "A Barclaycard Unwind Experience" to its name, signage and marketing materials in 2010. It is not known if Barclaycard are involved in the current talks for Wembley Stadium.

Any potential deal to rebrand Wembley Stadium is likely to anger traditionalists.

But with FA still repaying the debt that it took on to build the £757m stadium, arguments will be made that the deal makes commercial sense.

WNSL and The FA are understood to have been keen to bring in a major commercial partner to the stadium for some time.

Other stadiums to be rebranded in recent times include Newcastle United's stadium which became the "SportsDirect.com Arena @ St James' Park" and then, in November 2011, the "Sports Direct Arena".

Announcements, Feedback & Questions / Poll Voting
« on: June 08, 2012, 01:07:33 PM »
Mod and Admins,

For some reason on the numerous polls attached to certain topics my vote is registered before I have even chosen! For instance the topic on 'What position would be a successful first season?' it says I selected "10th (same as last year)' even though I havent even read the topic.  ???

This seems to be happening on multiple polls.

Any help would be much appreciated.  :D

General Football & Sports / 'And now, we go to hell' - Avram Grant
« on: May 30, 2012, 03:52:34 PM »
Thought I'd share this Dan Walker article I saw on the BBC website the other day.

Some pretty deep and tragic stuff and credit goes to Avram Grant for being so forthcoming and open, must take a lot of courage.

'Best value for money' for fans

The bank chart compares club season ticket costs with Premier League performance and entertainment value and getting the most points for your pound.

ING places QPR, who just avoided relegation, at the bottom of the table.

Wigan, who had a great escape from relegation, are second best value, and West Bromwich Albion third.

Second bottom were Liverpool, whose eighth-place finish in the top flight, Carling Cup triumph and FA Cup final place were not enough to counteract a high season ticket cost and poor scoring record.

And Wolves found themselves in both the official and value relegation zones.

The value league was compiled by comparing season ticket prices with points earned, and with a bonus for goals scored, deemed to affect fans' enjoyment of the game.

Just under half of fans felt they received good value for money in the 2011-12 season just ended, and as a result are seriously thinking about whether or not to renew their season ticket for the next campaign.

However it seems that clubs are listening to their concerns, with more than half of Premiership teams (12 of the 20) freezing or lowering their season ticket prices this year in an attempt to retain fans.

Relegated Blackburn Rovers have the most disgruntled fans - many of whom have staged protests in the past season against Indian owners Venky's and manager Steve Kean - with more than half of ticket holders (56%) saying they will not renew.

Aston Villa, who just dodged relegation and recently sacked manager Alex McLeish, had a third of fans (31%) saying they planned to cancel their tickets.

Two-thirds of supporters (67%) also say that a wage cap for Premier League footballers would be a positive move.

Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie topped the "best value player" poll, followed by Newcastle United striker Demba Ba and Tottenham's Scott Parker.

The report's compilation was overseen by Dr Steve Kelly from the University of Huddersfield, an expert in sports and club finance and structures.

Strange considering so many of our fans on here have moaned that we have been too boring to watch this season. Though I dont think any of our fans can really moan at the fairness of our season ticket prices.

Great news for the club this though, I would expect us to sell out the cap on season tickets allocated this year after the reduction coupled with the fact the value for money our season tickets represent.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Pre-Match Playlist

Your chance to pick the pre-match music!

http://www.facebook.com/notes/wbacouk/your-chance-to-pick-the-pre-match-music/10150361636005938

We are putting you, the fans, in charge of our pre-match music.

Albion have joined forces with Lift & Engineering Ltd to bring you the ‘Albion Playlist’.

The concept is simple. Before each home game, we will post a note here asking for your suggestions for three ‘themed’ tracks we should play after the first reading of the team sheets.

The trio of tracks we deem to be the best will be aired before the match and, of course, we will credit the winning author!

With the Bolton game arriving after the international break, our theme for the very first ‘Albion Playlist’ is simply ‘international artists’.

So get composing your three-track playlist, post it here and who knows? Maybe your choices could be ringing around The Hawthorns this very Saturday!

Hope everyone can see that link...if not unsurprisingly everyone's barking at them to play the Liquidator, which they haven't stated they will not play, so make it one season appearance? If so, might be a saft thing to do considering were playing a team called Wanderers in front of a full house on Saturday!

People might know Ive tried hard to get the song back through the club, who were very keen for it to return but the red tape was so much it never went through.

What do you think would make a good pre-match atmosphere?

Silence possibly to generate an atmosphere!?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Baggies Fans - Tipping Talent

Baggies are the Best.

West Midland's football fans are the nations' savviest when it comes to predicting Premier League scores, according to Super 6.

Last season's stats from the free-to-play Sky Sports football prediction game, played by over 100,000 people each week, revealled that West Midlands clubs - West Brom, Birmingham and Wolves - snaffled the top three places in the fans' predictor league.
Play Super 6

So whilst the midlanders have bragging rights over all other Premier League fans, followers of both Manchester clubs will want to improve on last year's embarrassing revelation that they finished 12th (United) and 14th (City) in the standings.

The table doesn't make happy reading for the passionate Geordie fans either, where Newcastle are 18th, alongside Fulham and West Ham.

Fans of Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea can at least console themselves in making the top 10 of football tipsters, while Everton and Liverpool followers have saved the blushes of the city with a respectable 4th and 8th place finish.

Super 6's Dale Tempest said: "The stats don't lie. Baggies fans are the savviest in the land and have absolute bragging rights over their peers - there must be something in the water up in the West Midlands it seems.

"I think that the gauntlet has been thrown down for fans in London, Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle to up their game! And if West Brom fans use our Super 6 top tips for the season ahead, I'm sure they'll be in a good position to keep hold of top spot by the time the 2011/12 season has finished."

West Bromwich Albion FC / Restricted View Seats Back?
« on: August 07, 2011, 08:55:35 PM »
Did anyone else today notice it looks like they've re-installed the restricted view seats in the Birmingham Road End?

I know theyve got rid of some rows from the Smethiwck which looks a bit smaller but why would they of added seats back from a place they ripped them out before? They keeping the capacity the same?

Also added a row at the front of the East Stand appears to be just below pitch surface.
