Andy Lonergan Signs
« on: January 07, 2021, 06:00:54 PM »
From SSN!?!

"WEST BROM SEAL LONERGAN MOVE

West Brom have signed goalkeeper Andy Lonergan.

The 37-year-old has come in to provide backup to Sam Johnston and David Button.

Lonergan joins from Stoke City, where he signed a short-term deal in December and played in the EFL Cup defeat to Tottenham.

The Baggies will be the 14th club of the ex-Liverpool ‘keeper’s career. "

Wasn’t this the chap who was absolutely awful at Wolves?

Not sure why we’ve signed another keeper unless there’s a chance we may accept a bid for Johnstone late in the window.

You maybe right, if they get 10m+ for SJ they will probably take it to restrengthen elsewhere and run with Button.

As I said on the transfer forum, this is a pointless signing that has the real stench of an agent being done a favour. We habe 3 goalkeepers, we will not need Lonergan this season and we don't need a goalkeeper coach either. The only reason the club wpuld want him is because of footballs nepotism culture.

Albion are indeed close to signing Andy Lonergan, though the deal isn't completed yet - though have been told that Sam Johnstone isn't going anywhere. #wba"

Perhaps we are going to field a team with the highest combined age ever recorded in premier league history? Lonergan in goal with Ivanovic in defence and Charlie Austin up front is the spine. Bring in Snodgrass and maybe at the end of the season we can put the side out to grass!

I posted this a couple of days ago, just saying,

I bet he knows how many shekels / dinar / lev his agent friends can "earn" representing their clients interests though.

He will be keen as mustard to get some transfer business concluded to "strengthen the team", I'm sure.

Please Note:-  for the avoidance of doubt, those are 2 separate  paragraphs and no linkage is inferred !!

Lads, when a signing is officially announced THEN it goes on the main board until then it stays in the transfer forum. You've all been on here long enough to know these things

With the apparent signing of Rob Snodgrass that gives these two a combined age of 70!

Bond is off so need a number 3. Now personally i'd say run with the 2 and put Bonds wages towards someone else instead. SJ aint missed a game but guarantee if we run with 2 keepers only then SJ will end up crocked.

Man city signed Scott Carson as a no 3
These things happen all the time
Good cover and better than Bondy
Same age as Ben Foster
No issues for me
More experienced players the better to go with our inexperienced squad

Same reason why we signed Al Habsi couple of years ago.

How do we know he's better than Bond?  Whenever I've seen Lonergan play he's not actually been any good.  This seems like a crazy signing.

Maybe Johnstone can take a bit from his experience. If Bond is going it's wise with Covid and all. Don't really have much of an issue with this. Bond, Lonergan...both very unlikely to play.

Lonergan has been a guest on Undr the Cosh. Comes across as a decent enough pro and I think has nearly signed for us before.

I think in his interview he said in hindsight he should have thrown his toys out the pran for the good of his career to come to us.

If it’s a cheep swap with bond for number three I don’t see an issue.

I'm hoping for a dose of vaccine at some point. As for humble pie I'm not hungry. In the meantime I think it's genuinely great Sam's currently doing the basics on a more consistent basis. More of the same please lad.

YEah id imagine Bond was on around 8-10k per week with his flex up. Longergans probably less than 5k
