Title: Press conference / Local Papers
Post by: spencer Baggie on June 15, 2014, 06:02:55 PM
Alan Irvine unveiling due in the coming days.

Whilst I do not feel it is the responsibility of local reporters to vent our anger on our behalf, they should at least be asking the pertinent questions, especially in relation to the back lash this appointment has received.

Steve Madely and Chris L are top local journalists imo. I'd encourage as may of you has possible to tweet them with your comments and questions you'd like to see asked at the presser - sensible though; make sure they have a point to them. Not just a load of vitriol.

Steve Madely - @smadeley_star
Chris L - @chrislepkowski

I asked SM to essentially ask 'does the backlash to the Irvine appointment show that the club is detached from it's fan base' ?

Over to you guys. Tweet them and perhaps leave a comment below with the question you'd like to see the local journalists ask.

I do like this idea, I think that they know the club well enough to be more than aware of the anger this has caused. I very much think that they know this situation is coming - I second your thoughts and actually think this is a very good channel of communication to go down.

Do you deliberately make your decisions just so they antaganise the supporters ?

Are you expecting demonstrations about this appointment ?

Whos decision was it to go ahead with pinstripes on the new kit ?

Do you regret any of your decisions ?

Do you realise you are hated by at least 95% of supporters ?

Which team do you actually support ?

Can people have a refund on season tickets ?

Who will be next coach when irvine goes in November ?

Has Downing got photos of you ?

Why are you so tight ?

How do you justify your salary ?

Please sell the club ?

Yeah but I would sooner have appointed the chap driving the players coach, he has a coach's badge too.

Jeremy, after your speech saying you take the blame and the same mistakes won't be made again why do you make the mother of all f*** ups and appoint a man who failed at championship/league 1 level???

Problem is, if the locals antagonise the club too much, we could end up with a Newcastle type situation - where a local paper is openly at war with the owners.

Ive tweeted chris L and asked him to ask peace one question, What were these mistakes he wanted to learn from as I thought it was appointing inexperience. Maybe he sees a different problem, or maybe he just a tw*t.

I think asking 'Will you offer fans who are unhappy with this appointment a refund on their season ticket' is a very good question.

Facebook was even worse. Last time I looked they had 1600+ comments in response to the announcement on FB. Then they put something up about Fathers Day and got absolute pelters again.

When they're sometimes accused of being overly negative about the club, they keep stressing how they're simply doing their job and reporting news, whether it's good or bad. The dismay felt by so many Albion fans over this appointment is undeniably news, so they should reflect it in the articles they write in the coming days. Madeley's reference yesterday to "....the prospect of a luke warm reaction from supporters...." was laughable, given what was already unfolding. I hope he's got the message loud and clear now.

Who else thinks that the first comment from Chris Lepkowski since his holiday is biased towards the Club/Irvine:

Link: Birmingham Mail (http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/chris-lepkowski-west-bromwich-albion-7271829)

For example, Chris L mentions that Darren Carter reckons Irvine is meticulous in his preparation, but doesn't say anything about the views of quite a few Sheff Wed fans that Irvine served up the worst football they'd seen for 20 years. Chris L also doesn't mention the bizarre tactical "nous" that led Irvine to use 4 central midfielders in 4-4-2 formations.

Like it or not, the Club is now in a situation that can't be whitewashed.

I would have thought it was obvious - by saying we all need to be good boys and girls and get behind the decision. Unless Irvine does something remarkable in his first few games, backing the decision just isn't going to happen for many fans.

Does anyone know when the press conference for our new head coach will be?

Just spoke to a director at the club, won't name him as he is a friend, and basically all the staff are bemused and shocked at the decision to appoint Irvine and there has not been one say anything different.

Some sponsors and would be sponsors have requested a statement from peace and some have withdrawn their offers, and have been inundated with requests for money back on lots of deposits for boxes and executive seats.

The rebellion has begun.

The other Directors have no say in major decisions at the club as Peace makes them all

Unveiling will be Wednesday at noon.

I assume it will be at the Hawthorns or at the training ground and I doubt very highly that Peace will attend. It will be Burton and/or Garlick with him if anybody.

If the press don't ask the difficult questions I'd be very disappointed.

I've just had a long telephone conversation with somebody very close to someone on the board, can't name her for obvious reasons, somewhat surprisingly she has said exactly the opposite to what you've posted, many of the staff have met AI & are quite impressed with him, also no potential sponsors have pulled out or made any demands.

She did say that fans have contacted the club regarding refunds & that is ongoing.

Maybe the rebellion will be put on hold until JP does actually kill somebody

We'll I'm sorry that is not the information I have, which has come from not just a director but other members of staff, and I can assure you a number of sponsors have requested reviews and withdrawal of funds because I personally know more than one of them, your source is obviously being fed information on a need to know basis, and one that will not be alarmist, but the concerns are increasing.

A very we'll known advertiser in the ground has already requested his boards be removed, a local company.

So in essence, your information is 100% correct from your 'source' & what you've provided sounds quite alarming on the face of it & shows JP & the board's decision making in a really bad light!  therefore my source must be being fed 'need to know' info that will only show the appointment of Irvine in a positive light......hmmmm the plots thickens..........I know which 'source' I believe.

Yesterday you were suggesting you knew about AI's credentials as you had heard personally from Billy Jones, Richard Chaplow and Craig Beattie and they had divulged what they had thought of him.  Today it comes to light that you have another source.. who just so happens to be a director of a business that is a major advertiser in the ground. Don't worry me mon, I don't care if what you posted was billy bullsh!t or full on facts, it made sense to me, theres a hardcore of people on here that would believe sh!t was sugar if JP said so, you know the real fans, the very beating heart of WBA, the ones that know so much more than you and I, there voice is worth 2 of ours, legends

I realise that, so it's not worth sharing the info to be honest in future, if they wish to stay ignorant and believe all the bull Peace gives out that's their life

It may be true that some sponsors may pull out if there albion fans but the main sponsors couldn't care less about the manager, the club to them is just an advertising banner.
The only people that will be annoyed with this are the supporters and even though im hacked off with the appointment Ill no doubt still be there next season because the albion are my club. Peace can feck off and im behind anything that will help that after what he has done and we need to vent our anger to them. Remember the Ashley out protests at Newcastle, didn't work did they, so these owners don't give a toss about us, the club is a money making machine nowt else.

What need is a new song that the bald git will hear every game.... We know what we are, we are the albion and this is our club,club,club...Get the bald twonk out, get the bald twonk out, out of our club we are the albion and this is our club.
hahaha making me chuckle now

"All we are saying
Is Peace can f*$k off,

All we are saying
Is Peace can f*$k off".

Repeat ad nauseam.

edit: with apologies to John for nicking a peace anthem and directing it a very different kind of Peace.

He will set the stewards on you, like he did with my mate when he held up his Pepe flag

I think a song is good idea as well as are the banners, but they will get removed.
Listening to liquidator last season reminded me of what we have been robbed of, now peace is taking more or so it seems. A good leader of the ship would have released a statement today and attempt to defuse the situation.

I really think the local journalists have to go in all guns blazing. Maybe JP is hoping they will go a bit easy with Burton taking the questions but as he seems to have played a large part in this nonsensical appointment i sincerly hope that he kops plenty of the flak the whole of the clubs hierarchy deserve!!

bb

I said earlier he'll be gone by Christmas and after 5weeks due diligence Downing will be in charge to the old tune of 'Keith was always our number one candidate'
