Could still be 343  :D :D
Please don’t!

Bruce looks like Bowlplex doorman. 😂

Surprise to see Reach but straight away it’s a more fluid and flexible system
Could be 433 451 4321
Expect a tight, don’t lose approach. Would take a draw just hope we score.

Pity all the agencies chasing Zouma and looking into 'cat cruelty', don't spend so much time looking into child cruelty. If they had perhaps Arthur Labinjo Hughes would still be here.
RSPCA is a charity for the protection of animals.
Many, many official agencies were at fault for what happened to Arthur, but they weren't one of them.

I suspect he has enough in the bank by now to enjoy a comfortable life, so much depends upon his attitude and the evidence to date is not encouraging.
His control is apparently exceptional.

Remote control that is, while he's sitting on his arris, eating Pringles and watching Netflix. ;)

From todays athletic

"Albion Under-23s, who had also switched to 3-4-3 on Ismael’s orders to echo what the first team were doing, reverted to a back four on Monday in their first game since Bruce’s appointment in what could be considered a clue to his intentions for the senior side."
They were actually doing ok with 343 and then lost the first game with a back 4.
Just shows that there really isn't a one-size Fitz Hall.
First team is, obviously, the most important though, so it makes sense that the system is cascaded down. Definite back 4 tonight.

Phillips and Bartley doubtful for tomorrows game from the OS.
In that case:

                        Button
        Furlong Kipre Clarke Townsend
    Robinson TGH Livermore Mowatt Grant
                        Carroll

Only really leaves Diangana as an attacking option off the bench so Tulloch, Faal or Cleary may, finally, get a chance.

Referees, we will start being awarded pen’s again, I have a personal theory why we have been getting a rough deal from refs, if correct the trend will reverse now
Whilst I see where your coming from mate, we didn't exactly get many decent shouts under Val, the ball didn't spend enough time in the opposition box and the forwards even less.
Hopefully, with the ball more to feet, we will indeed get our fair share.

Good idea, hope it takes off.

Livermore, if we move to a 3 in MF. TGH and Mowatt for the same reason.
Townsend and Furlong, if we move back to a back 4.
Grant, Robbo and Grady, if we get the ball through the midfield 3 more, rather than lumping it forward.

Maybe Cleary, Tulloch, Fellows if they actually get some decent minutes.

Surprised how many are picking Johnstone.

After his Twitter "like" for Preston's goal, I would never play him again. It may have stemmed from his row with Val, but for me it was disrespectful to his team mates, our club and every fan.
Button has done well enough and is far braver than that coward anyway.

Not sure if this is because Vals football was so bad, but having watched the changes this week and the interviews with Bruce, I actually feel excited. If we can get some footballing nous in the board and we have a manager who will at least respond to changes in a game then it can only be a positive.

We’re not miles away, we have three players on the books suddenly who can bang in the goals and if we can bring Grady back then we have a great chance.

Come on Albion!
From what I’ve heard he was liked as a person but hated for his methods. Not only by players but, more importantly, coaches.
This gives me hope that Bruce’s experience will work pretty much straight away.

If Bruce can recover the mess of this season he deserves that money and deal.
Agree.
Surely a long term deal should be based on results and performance, not potential or hype, if he delivers both and continues to do so, then boom, there's your 4 year plan.

I'd be amazed if it's not 451 on Wednesday, might be a bit more adventurous if we were at home, but he won't want to lose this.
I'd go:

                     Button
  Furlong Bartley Clarke Townsend
Phillips TGH Livermore Mowatt Grant
                    Carroll

Not much scope for subs but Robbo and Grady to come on if we chasing, Ajayi or Mulumby if we are defending a lead.

This is the acid test now, we know the squad is not the best, but it should be better than we have seen over the last 3 months.

Livermore will instantly be more use in a 3, as will Mowatt and TGH should start.
Furlong has been poor but he's a (slightly) better fullback than wingback
Townsend was a solid left back who has regressed under Val and his system, so should improve
Grady, Grant, Robbo and Phillips have shown in flashes what they are capable of but it's been all too fleeting, hopefully a change in system will see it on show more often.

The only ones that really flourished under Val's system were the back 3 so, I suppose, there is a risk with going with a back 4, but I think we have enough to cope.

All in all, I just think a lot of the players, whilst never being world beaters, will be instantly more comfortable.

You're overcompensating an average of 1.6 per game would usually get you into the top six that's 8 from every 15 saying that more would be nice.
For this division those 5 are a tough group i wouldn't expect the team to pick up that quickly.
If we've got 69 points going into the last game mate, it will be too much to bear! Especially against Val's Barnsley!

We just have to hit the ground running so I'm praying that what I have heard about the players and coaches alike, being averse to Val's tactics, we will see an immediate bounce. Everything crossed.

You only have to look back at this thread and see why the fans turned. So much optimism destroyed by that run of results.

Shall we start again with the next 5?

Sheff U - 0
Blackburn - 3
Luton -3
Boro - 1
Swansea - 3

Think that's minimum we need. Sheff U will be a tough one to win and I fear we'll lose that one.
I'd say we can only afford to lose another 3 max if we ant to guarantee top 6, which is a tough ask, but it's all about points now and we really need 10 from every 15

I think this long term plan stuff is a pure myth. There is no such thing in football either with players or managers.
The only loyalty in football is from us the fans, that’s why it’s such a shame when we turn on each other over a player, manager or whatever.
Peace, Love and Happiness all. Let’s stick together whoever comes in.

This is a reminder of the Pardew appointment. I've also got a feeling it could end the same way.

It's not exactly an appointment that is going to enable us to build a team over the next few seasons so we could compete in the premiership.

Also I wonder if he will bring his assistant ...........  Graeme Jones.  He failed here before when he tried to play the ball out from the back. Can you imagine our defenders trying that !!!  I think disaster is the word.
Why not? He's one of the few available that has done it before and without top 6 money.
If he does well, his head won't be turned by the first offer that comes around either and he definitely won't be offered the England job. The only way we keep a successful manager for 3 or 4 years is if they are no longer overly ambitious or trendy enough to be head-hunted. It's a perfect opportunity to build for the next few seasons in my book.
Whether the style of play will be tolerable for that period is another question and probably the only negative I can see.

I remember how underwhelmed I was when Megson was appointed, angry even, as, being part of a Stoke supporting family, his record with fans was not great, probably worse than Bruce's. Didn't turn out too bad.
Need to give Bruce a chance and be positive until we have cause not to be.

If you look at it a bit more perversely, he could actually be our best chance of some longevity (bear with me), as, if he is successful, which we all hope he will be, he will not really be subject to the same risk of poaching as a younger dude. He doesn't need the money or the koudos and lives local, so him and his family must be settled.
If he gets us up and keeps us up, it could be the beginning of the long term plan we have all been craving.
He may even still be here next Christmas  :o

They are not fans of WBA!
They will frighten and drive away children and females from supporting our club of great heritage and pride.
May years ago I took my young son to a home match against Millwall in a cup game 2nd leg that we had lost the first leg by 3 or 4 goals so I thought it would be a good match to take him to because we had no option but to attack, we sat in the top tier of the old rainbow stand, I can't remember the match itself just the marauding mob of Millwall fans running along the top of the private boxes in the rainbow
My son was terrified, he was a junior baggie, he never went back to the game of football, he took up rugby
It's only a step away from throwing flares to missiles then fighting racism etc we must stop it now throw them out arrest them jail them ban them from WBA now!
We won 5-1 and turned the tie around after losing 3-0 in the first leg.
I was about 13ish and it was terrifying, yet exhilarating at the same time as no-one expected us to win and we battered them.

It would be interesting to listen to what the boards vision actually is.
I would imagine the vision is to get back in the greed league and very little ahead of that, which is understandable. Long term projects cost millions, that we just don't have.

I would hope, however, that they have looked at the squad, maybe even listened to some of the discontent and issues with Valball, then looked for a compatible manager. The most important thing now is to bring someone in who can get this squad competing again. Bruce ticks that box as well as anyone.

It won't be pretty but, if it's effective and gets us heading in the right direction again, then it will be a good decision.

Long term plans are all well and good but it's no good looking up, if you are going down.

Can finally look forward to a game again and actually have a debate about formations!  :)

If Bruce is in, I reckon 451, so I'd go:

                      Button
     Furlong Bartley Clarke Townsend
   Grady TGH Livermore Mowatt Grant
                       Carrol
 Easily converts to a 4141 or 433.

I think straight away it eliminates the midfield overload, allows Mowatt more space to get forward, both Furlong and Townsend are capable of dropping into a back 3 if the other gets forward and Grady and Grant should have more space to actually get balls to feet.

I know Bruce is not renowned for attractive football, so I'm not expecting Brazil, I think it will be quite industrial, but it has to suit the squad better.

Think a win might be too much to ask for, after all that's happened, but would take a score draw.

1-1

I hope he doesn't go 352, transfermarkt states that is his preferred formation. If we go down that road then we can kiss goodby to getting the best out of Grady and Furlong and Townsend could be part of the midfield 5.

Actually wouldn't mind a dynamic 442 with the players we have.
Tended to play 4141 / 451 at Newcastle, can't see him playing 3 at the back, not in the long term anyway.

Agree with most of what you said.

Fingers crossed you are right and Bruce changes the midfield up.

One thing is for sure if we continue with Livermore and Mowatt as a pairing, we are not winning any match!
Pretty sure the midfield will change, because he'll go 4 at the back so either 4141, 442, or 451. I expect the latter, which will instantly stop the midfield being overrun, and allow Townsend and Furlong to go back to being full-backs. Carrol will be the focal point, with the likes of Grant, Robbo, Grady and Phillips playing off him.
Won't be the prettiest, but, I honestly think it suits our squad far better than the hopeless 343. It should also get TGH starting more games.

A lot of fans are ok with Bruce.
