Was Trev The Shed not the Director at Albion, Trevor Summers? Not sure?

Maybe a better story - I was sat in a bar on Zakynthos about ten years ago and got talking to this bloke about football in general.

After a bit of chatting he told me he was Gordon West's son and had met Jeff Astle and Bomber Brown when he was a kid! What a coincidence to meet someone like that.

Anyone got any more chance meeting stories?
Ironically my first game in 1969 and the first goal i saw at The Hawthorns was Jeff lobbing Gordon West in the Everton goal in front of the Brummie Road end.

Huddersfield Town v West Bromwich Albion

Sunday 10th March 2024 12.000pm

Please use this board for all your After Match Debate. Away fans are reminded to abide by the site rules.
One of the best second halves I have seen Albion play for some time. Great to see us coming from behind which has been a problem this season. Mikey does have a left foot and what an impact he has made.

He will fit in well at Ipswich sadly. Their quick counter attack style will suit him.

5
Atkinson would make my top three. I don’t think I will ever witness a Baggies team with as much flair or excitement as the team he assembled. My best years as a supporter. We could beat anyone at that point and feared no one.
Absolutely - fantastic days attack, attack attack - the best time to support Albion in my lifetime.
As for Buckley he lost 11 on the trot including a three nil home thumping by Wolves and signed half a poor Grimsby side quite simply the worst ever!

Seems like any player with a value no matter what it is, is for sale - very depressing.

Very grim. What happened in March to trigger this? Only thing I can think of is the release of the accounts.

Surely it has to be the refusal of Lai to repay the loan to the club? If so fair play to him for standing up  but it does mean we are unlikely to see the money until/if we are sold. Cant think of anyone not in the owners camp who would take the job now.

Not sure how anyone can look at that and not understand why he's been banned
Exactly. Imagine if it had happened to one of our players and the perpetrator had gone on to get an equaliser against us. We would be united in crying foul!
Mind you, it was nowhere near as bad as the famous Shearer one in 90's. Also caught on TV but unpunished.

I wonder if he is any better than the ones we have let go recently, some who were never given a chance? Time will tell. I can vividly remember Cyrille coming in from Hayes and there was a real feeling he was going to be good and he broke into the first team really quickly.

Yes lucky enough to see him too. To quote Bill Shankly "I like that boy he could put a ball on a sixpence".
That says it all.

A great show tonight.
Did you notice the greatest honour when our truly great striker Cyrille was mentioned and pictured on Buckingham Palace, what an honour what a man
Nice one!
Yes I was there and it made the night especially with the out of tune Diana Ross!

Sadly i think we will now stick with Bruce. My prediction is that by Christmas we will be mid table at best with SB still unsure of our best team and come January another manager will be in. It is all too predictable and i hope that SB proves me wrong. Having said that Dike could be the man to deliver.

I was there, only eight at the time but what a day.  I still watch the highlights the pre match and post match footage still gets the tears in the eyes. A team full of character and fighters not like some of the jokers we have today.
Thanks for the reminder great memories from a great day Super Bob, Clem, Big Dave and Houlty (what a keeper). Lets hope we have another one like it soon.

It's Bruce out for me. He will not take us up next season and we will stagnate even more. Although ironically I think Bruce would be a better bet to keep us up if he had come in while we were in the Premier League.
I remember what he did at Villa where they kept faith and he failed to deliver. Halfway through the season he was inevitably sacked, Smith came in and they went up (just as we know to our pain despite winning on away goals). He needs to go now and be replaced with someone who will take us up.

Sad to hear of the death of sports commentator Nigel Pearson who was often on Talk Sport.Very knowledgeable as a fan and a journalist on all things Albion. I will miss him particularly on deadline day.

I agree to an extent as long as it’s just a few at a time. There is a big gap between the level that they regularly play at and the Championship. Whilst they may make good future players putting too many in at the same time too early in their development may be detrimental to them.
So lets play a spine and put the kids in around them suggest Johnstone, Clarke, O'shea, Livermore (reluctantly) and Grant start. Although good case for bringing Palmer in too.

Forget a rebuild nobody is buying these mega expensive players. We will be stuck with the same gutless players next season so look forward to the same again.
Surely now we play the youngsters. Lets really see how many are capable of stepping up - who knows it cannot be any worse and we might get a pleasant surprise?

I remember this tackle on Hopkins it was bone shuddering and would be a definite red and four match ban

What a legend Robertson was and so under rated - a real hero.

I am starting to think given the speed this has happened that the Bruce and CEO appointment was on the cards and sorted out well in advance of Val's and Ken's sacking. You also wonder if the Carol signing was directed by Bruce too.

I will support Bruce if appointed as we had to change  but i do hope initially it is only a short term contract. My only fear is that he would be a better manager to keep us in the Premier League rather than promote us out of the Championship. Hope i'm wrong.
