For some strange reason I don't think I have ever worked this out before...

I was born in the early morning of 29th of March in 1962 in Sydney

so this game, most likely, would have been being played at the same time :)

Wednesday 28th March 1962:    Wolverhampton 1 - 5 West Bromwich Albion

Tottenham have forced a non-league club to change their badge design, complaining it was too similar to their own.
It means Fleet Spurs, who play in the Wessex League Division One in Hampshire, will have to fork out between £3,000 and £4,000 to change their badge.
Bryan Sheppard, chairman of Fleet Spurs, told the BBC: "We haven't got a penny to our name, we couldn't afford to fight it.
"It's been quite stressful, we just felt really intimidated by the heavy-handed approach.
"But I can see where they are coming from.”

The current badge was created by the winner of a fans competition and Sheppard insisted that the new design would also be crafted by a supporter – although he admitted they would have to scrutinise the winning entry more carefully this time around.
Despite no official links existing between the clubs, Fleet Spurs were set up after World War Two as a tribute to Tottenham by returning war personnel.
Tottenham’s lawyers have given Fleet Spurs until Christmas to remove the crest from their ground, but have permitted its use on their kit until it’s next replaced.
"It was always the club's approach to deal with this matter amicably and with a large dose of common sense,” said a spokesman for the Premier League club.

Just out of curiosity... Why is the Tottenham chicken standing on a basketball? At least the Fleet chicken knows what sport its club plays.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Doing the Double....
« on: April 25, 2012, 11:51:13 PM »
OK I'm not sure if I got this right but....

After having a look through some old Match results it seems doing the League Double over Villa is pretty rare for us.

Doing the League Double over Wolves is a lot more common BUT....

we don't seem to have done the League Double over BOTH of them in a single Season.

When I look I can only ever see it done once by Villa over Us and Wolves in the 1981-82 season.

Are there any good statistian out there who can confirm/correct?

Wolves' relegation from the Premier League has capped off a miserable spell as manager for Terry Connor.

A tearful Connor was left to rue yet another defeat as Manchester City won 2-0 at Molineux on Sunday to seal Wolves' fate.

Since his appointment as Mick McCarthy's successor in February, Connor has picked up just two points from 10 games in charge and is still searching for his first win with three matches remaining.

However, his points per game rate of 0.20 is not the worst in Premier League history.

That dubious honour goes to Jimmy Gabriel, who lost six and drew one of his seven games in caretaker charge of Everton in 1993/94.

Gabriel oversaw a miserable spell between Howard Kendall's departure and Mike Walker's appointment.

Walker guided Everton to safety with a dramatic win on the final day, when they came from two goals down to beat Wimbledon.

However, Gabriel did win his only game in a separate caretaker spell in 1990, giving him a better career record than Connor.

Connor's 0.20 points per game place him just ahead of Paul Jewell, whose Derby side went winless in 24 Premier League games under his charge in 2007/08.

So bad was their form, Jewell remarked: "The fans were singing 'you're not fit to wear the shirt', and they were right."

Next comes McCarthy's ill-fated spell in the top flight with Sunderland, who also crack the bottom 20 with Kevin Ball and Howard Wilkinson.

Les Reed, in 11th, might be the least successful manager on the list. He was appointed permanent boss of Charlton in November, but lost his job after just seven matches and has never managed since.

Alan Shearer's disastrous time at Newcastle in 2009, in which the Magpies were relegated, also makes the list.

Special mention must go to Dave Bassett and Chris Hutchings, the only men to appear in the bottom 20 with two clubs - Bassett with Nottingham Forest and Leicester; Hutchings with Bradford and Wigan.

LEAST SUCCESSFUL PREMIER LEAGUE MANAGERIAL TENURES

- Minimum six Premier League games managed.
- List refers only to the Premier League era, which began in 1992.
- Dates cover span of Premier League matches, not entire tenure.
- Statistics refer to each manager's specified tenure at a club, not their overall Premier League record.

* In joint charge with Colin Todd.
** Does not include spell in 1997 as joint manager with Stuart Pearce.

As the rankings are calculated over the results of the previous 8 years, I've no idea if we have been that high before

but we just move into the 100th rank

West Bromwich Albion FC / The Internet
« on: August 31, 2011, 10:59:16 PM »
The internet has been a wonderful thing.....

The access to live information about the happenings at the Albion has been glorious especially when I remember back to the bad old days of the 70, 80 & early 90s.

Being in Australia often it would be days before I could get scores let alone see highlights/replays  :(

Then the internet blossomed and streams, club websites and the best thing.... Forums, appeared so that I could interact with Baggies from around the World..... Good Times  :D

Sadly that is no longer the case....

Forums only now seem to exist to foster the malcontents of the world.... they moan and whine... and invent conspiracy theories etc etc

Here we are in the BEST condition as a club with one of the BEST squads, BEST Managers, BEST financial position, BEST stable ownership we have had in decades and all you seem to hear in thread after thread after thread is moan moan moan moan...

We spent money on players our manager wanted, we have moved on player who wanted to go, we extended contract on our core players....

We have in place a squad, which while still can be improved (what team can't?) is better than last seasons and more than cabable of being midtable by Christmas.

Yes it can be interesting to discuss the "negatives" about the Albion but not constantly...... repeating..... the same thing....... over and over....

it's sad how what should be such a positive place to come and discuss has fallen...............
