Matt Wilson says both clubs have the option to review the loan in January. Hope this doesn't turn out to be the Barnes situation repeating itself.

I'm glad I wasn't the only person to think that! Hopefully that isn't the case...

If he turns out to be as good as Barnes I wont mind if we only get him for half the season. But think Barne's impact will be a bit of a one off and we have other options.

He is classed as a forward who can play on either wing or up top. I guess time will only tell where Slav see’s him

Seems to be able to play wing, upfront or second striker.

Gives us options in all the positions. I imagine he won’t start every game but seems a highly rated player.

Just an aside, but how many players do Benfica have on the books? I’m sure they’ve loaned out about 5 or 6 players this window.

While he can play anywhere behind a lone striker that also can be said of Burke, Edwards, Phillips, Diangana, and Pereira. In truth he is predominately a right footed wide player his arrival might prompt the departure of Phillips or Burke to a club whose window is still open.

Willock must have been bought in as a striker. Bilic mentioned having four strikers unless he’s putting Burke in that group. ??

I hope he'll get his chance there because if Austin doesn't start banging the goals in we are short of players who can do that.  Jury still out on Zohore, sentences passed on HRK and Burke.

Surprised it hasn’t been picked up on but when Slaven summarised each transfer after the window closed he referred to Willock as a signing by the club. The lad could do well over a long season but I don’t think he’s a favourite to start regularly whether that’s as a winger or striker. Time will tell.

he should have played in the cup game instead of Burke.

unfortunately being out of the cup now limits how quick we get other players like Willock up to speed.

I don't know too much of the lad to be honest but he cant be any worse than Burke, so he should at least have his place on the bench.

I agree with you about him not starting regularly though, he seems to have been brought in as cover for both positions and to allow Leko out on loan.

Turned out for the under 23's against Fulham looked decent apparently.

Once again doesn’t make the bench. Early days, but he couldn’t even get an appearance in the league cup. Feels a little bit like we have wasted his time bringing him in, plus most likely paying a decent loan fee.

A few people got a bit funny with me when I said we had got a bit trigger happy with wingers on deadline day, but we have 2 wingers starting today with another 2 on the bench and currently have 3 or 4 in the stands. It would be a shame to waste his time, our money and sully our reputation with clubs who are looking to loan players out by bringing in people for the sake of it, as we seem to have with Willock.

For what it’s worth, he is supposed to be decent and may well be better than Edwards, but hard for him to show that when having 4 players ahead of him.

the plan from what I’ve heard is it’s a club decision rather than the manager and the loan is closer to a “try before you buy” and he’s a long term option rather than an immediate first teamer. Could be wrong who knows!
