The Albion Foundation
« on: March 24, 2019, 06:50:17 AM »
I'm reading stuff on social media that the club either don't financially support the foundation or have recently withdrawn their financial support.
Now as I tend to take much of what I read on twitter with a large pinch of salt and don't do facebook, I thought I would come ask my trusted source of Albion info, you lot
Any one here know the true story?

Apparently its true, they are not funded by the club, seen a few posts by the  Sandwell Skidder about it a while back

They have to earn, or bid for everything.  They get a minimal amount from the club. If we don't get promotion this season, it will mean they will have to loose some staff. They get some money from the premier league at the moment but obviously this will drop next season if we don't go up.  They all work so hard.

Few details on there but nothing showing any income from the club, they do use facilities but seems thats about it

They had to move out of their offices in the old ticket office in Halfords Lane, and move down the road into an old council building.

So... is the WBA management getting any kind of kudos / reflected glory for an organisation that it doesn't in any way contribute to?

I have to admit that up until now I have always assumed the Foundation was an integral part of the whole that is Westbromwich Albion Football Club and a subsection, probably with charitable status, of WBA

It's my ignorance, but I never knew we contributed so little to this amazing organisation after all those years in the prem.

It's quite embarrassing really.

maybe this is something the albion assembly could bring up (not sure if they do/have so apologies if they have).

surely something as simple as some collection buckets at every home game could be a start to helping them out as they do great work and are great representatives of the club.

I think the wider fanbase would be surprised (and disappointed) to know how little the club contributes to this "Albion" foundation. It does smack of taking the kudos but providing the support to me personally.

 Thanks for the information Baggiejohn . Looking at the activities I think the club could claim to contribute in kind by releasing players to visit schools. However it seems to be a minimal effort given the need to have strong community links. Surprising the club doesn't play a bigger role these days.

There is an income section "Charitable Activities" valued at £2,664,898.
This is the definition of "Charitable Activities"

Quote
Charitable Activities
Income received as fees or grants specifically for goods and services supplied by the charity to meet the needs of its beneficiaries.

It's likely that the foundation receives a fee from the Local Authority for some of the work it does on their behalf.
It's also likely that they are in receipt of grants, but I suspect that the football club make a significant contribution in this section.

That is good to read and also reassuring to know that the club does pitch in, thank you for the clarification and update.

I'd like to see the evidence they do as in previous years they haven't, they also hardly contribute anything for the womens team although that is getting slightly better but not much.

During a recent wheelchair football camp that my son attends we had a visit from a children in need rep, from the general chat I gathered that a lot of funding comes via that stream. The club do well in freeing up players to attend various initiatives through the year and use of the facilities but I’m not sure there is much in the way of actual cash coming from WBA. I could well be wrong but that was my limited understanding.

I don't know for certain how much the club contribute, but I have some experience of working with charities, you have to be a pretty big organisation to receive grants of over £1 million, & local authorities are generally not known for being over generous.

The last donation I can find is from 2014 and was for around £17,000

You might well be right in terms of cash, but from the research I've done it looks as though the club provide services which are low cost to them. but high value to the foundation. They would show on the foundation accounts as an income.

May take a while. Could be wrong but I think questions need to be on the agenda before they can be asked/discussed. If so unless it's already on the agenda the Foundation probably wouldn't be discussed until the meeting after next.

I guess the response will be "if we fund the foundation any more than we already do we will have to lay off more low paid, minimum wage, minions to fund it" and "we are sure you wouldn't expect the well paid directors to give up any of their unearned and undeserved bonuses?"

Here's a novel idea!
What about the players who are getting paid fortunes every week say, 'hang on a bit, just take a week of my wages every year and pay that to the foundation to help it out'
That would equate to at least £450k.
Too simplistic I suppose  ::)

@WBAFoundation

Do you know anyone who's bored with being stuck at home & could benefit from getting out the house for a couple of hours?

Maybe you & a friend want to come along & see what it's all about?
