I think he looks completely void of confidence at the moment, when he scored he seemed so relieved.

He had a couple of runs first half and put a lovely cross in just after he scored too but he looks a bit shell shocked, i dont know if he has had any bad injuries prior to joining us but he seems to hold back a bit.

I certainly wouldnt write him off yet but at the moment the team isnt performing at home, so the whole system and formation needs to be reviewed and he may lose his place because of it.

He looks like a confidence player to me, yesterday after scoring he started playing a bit better. Before taking the corners, trying to rev up the crowd to make noise, he knows the team need that push. I think he'll get stronger than he played yesterday (fingers crossed).

His first half performance was in contention for worst 45 mins in stripes ever!  Mind you so was Livermore’s

Somehow bundled the ball in after a 6 yard box scramble but otehr than that was woeful all game and offered nothing... A replacement for Barnes he is not.

Can only hope the goal he got wakes him up a bit.

Some awful crosses. Did have one bright moment in the first half where he cut in between two Forrest players; and probably sent through his best cross of the night albeit comfortably gathered by Pantillimon. Has some pace and maybe if others mentioned he is on his wrong side; that may contribute to his poor balls in.

I thought, a couple of moments aside, he was awful. But then I've been told he was wearing a protective boot after the Stoke game, so was he fully fit? And if not, why did they start him ahead of Montero, given that we could only pick one or the other?

Montero will be another Sako, but God only knows what Murphy is.

Still trying not to write him off but have seen nothing to convince me so far.

Got to agree with Jacko for once  :D I'd like to see him on the left as thats where he seemed to spend time previously.

F sake why didn't they put him on left because he was woeful on right and got in the way of any attacking threat that Holgate posed. Someone tell Moore and Jones that this isn't tennis you can coach from sideline

Looked a bit lightweight to me, but hopefully the goal will help him push on

Something there but needs a run of games.  Quick over first 5 yards and put over a couple of decent crosses second half.  Only worry for me is a lack of physicality....the boy Barnes could look after himself

Can't believe some are writing him off already , I'd prefer to see him on the left but lets give him a run of games before being too hard on him .

so we've signed a pacey left winger to play on the right wing and loaned out a pacey right winger in Burke.

For my money Murphy's a more advanced player , need to feed him in and let him surge at teams not these lofted crosses to nobody we seem to do of late.

even if we switch him to the left he doesn't look like he has anything except pace. I would like to be wrong. arguably having brought in him and Montero we could switch to a 442 and play 2 out and out wingers with barry and harper in the middle or he could drop one of the front 2 (although gayles likely to be suspended now) and play him and Montero with rodriguez in the middle

I know it is early days, it is very harsh to judge so quickly, but imo this guy is just like Burke, he has pace and that's it. He goes down blind alleys and he gets pushed off the ball easily.

I would definitely go with JMon than JM.

Very disappointed with him so far and I hope he improves quickly.

We are missing HB very badly and also the delicate MP.

Exactly how I feel, but the only saving grace is that I guess he'll only be back up once Philips is back.

He's not Harvey Barnes and he's not exactly shone so far. Tuesday he was decent 2nd half and showed a bit more urgency. Considering he had his foot in a protective boot between games it was a decent effort.
Personally I hope he becomes undropable so we have the option of Phillips in midfield or on the other side to Murphy.

Ahhh! the old square peg ..... dilemma

It does seem to be the vogue nowadays to play people out of position, makes no sense to me, I was going to use CB as an example but  ..... ???

Agree, need Phillips in that central midfield 3.

That's the problem with there only being two transfer windows; anybody who joins in January has to hit the ground running. If it's the summer, you've got more time to work with them.

Plus we need a spark to replace Barnes, and urgently, so that will bring its own pressure.

At some stage, I'd like to see this guy against Hutton on Saturday. We would then know a lot more about him.

barnes had some fight and bite about him, and was a lot stronger than he looked. murphy looks fragile and not up for a physical contest. Hutton gets a welcome to the game in on him and I imagine that would be enough for him to keep murphy in his pocket (providing he stays on the pitch like he somehow managed v both long and berahino in past meetings- in fact hes probably due to be sent off the Cambridge university netball player)
