Scott Allan involved in road traffic accident

A MAN has suffered head injuries and is in a critical condition after he was struck by a car driven by Pompey player Scott Allan.

The incident, involving the pedestrian and the 20-year-old’s Audi Q7, happened at 8.50pm last night in Waverley Road.

Hampshire Constabulary said that the pedestrian, from Southsea, was seriously injured and was treated by paramedics and taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, by ambulance.

He was later transferred to the neurological unit at Southampton General Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Waverley Road was closed for two hours as police officers conducted an investigation.

An appeal for witnesses has been put out by the police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Wayne Voller at Fratton Road Policing Unit on 0845 045 45 45, quoting Operation Finch.

Allan is in his second loan stint to Pompey from West Brom and today played in their FA Cup first-round match

More concerned with the other person involved in the incident to be honest. Won't be great for Scott as he'll have that playing on his mind and that may have played a bit of a part in him being sent off today but there are far more important things than football.

Good that Wood is scoring goals, should be able to get a decent price for him in January.

That's a bit of a disappointing comment to be honest. I know Allan is one of ours but considering the fella looks in a bad condition I'd much rather he be ok than Allan.

I can only think WBASPE77 didn't really realize what had happened there. Terrible accident I hope both people involved will be ok.

Just by reading the initial reports, it seems as though Allan has maybe been the driver of a vehicle that through no major fault of his own has collided with a pedestrian. If this is true, we can only hope for the full recovery of the pedestrian and that Allan doesn't suffer from too much mental trauma. Let's just hope that it was a completely un-avoidable accident, although that won't be much of a relief to the poor chap and his family concerned at the moment.

Why if it wasn't Allan's fault?

The last thing Scott Allan wants is this whole incident playing on his mind. As Barrington rightly points out, the sooner the chap makes a quick recovery the sooner Allan can forget about the whole incident and concentrate on the football. I don't think Football would be at the top of my mind had I been in Scott Allan's shoes.

Started a thread on Owls Talk to see how Saido Berahino played yesterday and it apepared he was rather quiet although no fault of his own:

http://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/183121-saido-berahino/

Replies will probably continue in that thread so it's worth a check to see if they say anything different.

Why if it wasn't Allan's fault?

Because the guy in question is in a critical state in hospital, any decent human beings thoughts would be with the person who is fighting for his life, regarless of fault/responsibility in an incident such as this one.

Obviously I hope the person recovers. I just don't see what reasoning there is to preference one persons well-being over another if there is no blame attached. It comes across to me as if Liam is suggesting that Allan is culpable and it's therefore okay for him to suffer. Allan shouldn't have to suffer if he did nothing wrong and he will be I'm sure.

Perhaps a simple I hope they both recover would be the most apt response.

Yes, I did see that actually. I do find it hard to believe he was that good to be honest because the game was a complete snoozefest apparently. I'd been reading the commentary and popping over to Owls Talk for the updates and they said there was completely nothing happening. I guess with all strikers, if they're given no service then they're bound to struggle.

I wasn't suggesting that at all. I was thinking of Scott Allan's mental state to be honest. If the person he had knocked down (which to what I've read is accidental) had unfortunately passed away, the burden it would have on Scott Allan would be enormous and you would think would certainly put football on the back burner. The quicker the person who is in a critical conidtion recovers, the sooner Scott Allan can concentrate on his football and move on from this unfortunate incident.

Read the replies from the Owls and probably right as the general consensus amongst Posh fans is that Peterborough play a lot better against higher teams and always struggle versus bottom half. (I live in the Peterborough area)
