West Bromwich Albion FC / Lords my Shepherd
« on: February 15, 2024, 10:12:10 AM »
I was just chatting with a bloke at work who is a church goer, and he asked me how it came about that we took TLMS as our anthem?

I couldn't answer and the only thing I could find online was one suggestion from 8 years ago that stated it was a cup game in the 70's against Everton when a load of drunks sang it because the match was being played on a Sunday, and then it reappeared regularly again from the 90's?

Is this right?

General Football & Sports / Pitch Invasions

Something to think about, should we get this excitable at the end of the season! Also worth noting anyone using flares, etc will get a ban

Source: BBC

Pitch invaders at Premier League and English Football League matches will receive an automatic club ban under new measures to tackle fan behaviour.

Concerns were raised about safety at grounds after a number of pitch invasions at the end of last season.

Individuals who carry or use pyrotechnics or smoke bombs will also be banned and identified offenders will be reported to the police.

The Football Association will also implement tougher sanctions for clubs.

It is an offence for fans to enter the pitch "without lawful authority or lawful excuse" under the Football Offences Act 1991 - but offenders have not always been prosecuted.

However, prosecuting offenders will now be the "default response" under the new measures.

The leagues and the FA will:

Work with clubs to improve searches of individuals
Increase use of sniffer dogs at grounds
Work with social media platforms to quickly remove fan-generated videos of illegal behaviour
Ask the government to restrict the supply of pyrotechnics and smoke bombs
Potentially ban accompanying parents or guardians of children who take part in illegal behaviour
The Premier League, EFL and FA will also work with police forces to "establish a new principle for cases relating to pyrotechnics and smoke bombs".

Premier League clubs agreed new measures to deal with pitch invasions last month following a series of incidents.

The Sports Desk - Pitch invasions and pyrotechnics: how can football control its fans?
Aston Villa keeper Robin Olsen was assaulted at Manchester City on the final day of the season, while a Nottingham Forest fan was jailed for headbutting Sheffield United captain Billy Sharp at the end of their play-off match.

"The rise in anti-social behaviour that we saw in stadiums at the end of last season was entirely unacceptable and put people's safety at risk," FA chief executive Mark Bullingham said.

"Together, English football has introduced new measures and stronger sanctions, for the start of the coming season, to send out a clear message that we will not tolerate this type of illegal and dangerous behaviour.

"It is the responsibility of everyone in the game, including governing bodies, clubs, players, coaches, and fans, to ensure that we all play our part in protecting our game and each other."

Kevin Miles, chief executive of the Football Supporters' Association, added: "We are contacted by supporters on a fairly regular basis who have been caught jumping on the pitch, or with pyro in the stands, and without exception they regret doing it.

"Whether they had positive intentions or not is irrelevant in the eyes of the law - pyro and pitch incursions are illegal, you will be prosecuted and you will be banned by your club."

West Bromwich Albion FC / End of an 'era'?
« on: August 19, 2021, 03:30:37 PM »
I noticed last night, the Waggon & Horses was closed and completely fenced off.

Is this now done and dusted and being knocked down as it rightly should have been years ago, how he was allowed to still trade out of that pub god only knows  ;D ;D

But strangely I will miss the place after spending so many years frequenting it, so for me it is the end of an era if it has shut down

West Bromwich Albion FC / Big rebuild coming?
« on: January 10, 2013, 02:31:29 PM »
This summer is going to be huge for us in terms of our progress, Dan Ashworth is leaving as we all know to be replaced with a guy who has no experience in this role, not saying thats a bad thing but we were definitely in safe hands with Ashworth.

Defence - We then have the futures of Olsson, Tamas, Jara, Reid, McAuley to look at as well as the prospect of losing Popov as he is only on loan. There is no real cover for Billy Jones who has been found out in a few games already as well as uncertainty of whether Dawson will get a chance and James Hurst has not even featured on the bench. I also think Myhill will leave this year too.

Midfield - Dorrans, Gera and Thomas are more than likely going to be gone, El Ghanassey will go back to his club, I doubt whether we will keep Scott Allan and Brunt may feel its time to move on too.

Forwards - As it stands Lukaku will be back at Chelsea, Fortune is coming to the end of his contract, Rosenberg will more than likely move on if he has no game time and Odemwingie will be involved in his usual will he wont he all through the summer.

That is upto 19 players with question marks over their futures all to be looked at by a guy brand new in his role and a coach in his first year, as well as recruiting for the future, it is a big summer for us in many ways and probably our most important one to date due to the expectation around the club now.

General Football & Sports / September Manager of the Month

David Moyes manager of the month? Clarke in his first job would have been a better shout, we beat Everton, we are level on points with Everton, we are 100% at home and Everton got knocked out the cup to a team a division below them?

General Football & Sports / Manuel Preciado
« on: June 07, 2012, 08:53:35 AM »
Dont know the guy but feel it relevant to post on a football forum, RIP Manuel, sounds like he had some awful luck when alive.

SSN - Manuel Preciado, who was appointed as the new Villarreal coach yesterday, has died of a heart attack at the age of 54.

In 2002, Preciado's wife died from cancer. Two years later, his 15-year old son (one of two the couple had) was killed in a car crash. He later claimed about the incidents: "I could have shot myself or I could have carried on".

On 20 April 2011, Preciado's father, also named Manuel, died after being run over in Santander.

General Football & Sports / Billy Sharp
« on: November 02, 2011, 08:37:29 AM »
After Paul Scharner and Balotelli being booked for lifting their shirts after scoring I hope common sense prevailed last night for Billy Sharp. His son died a couple of days ago only 2 days old and before the match they had a minutes applause, he then went on to score a cracking goal and lifted his shirt to reveal a top saying 'Thats for you son' A very touching moment that I hope the referee did not book him for!

General Football & Sports / Steve McClaren
« on: June 09, 2011, 11:26:41 AM »
Apparantly (if you believe everything you read) Steve McClaren is getting no joy with a job in England due to his reputation, but is he really that bad? He won trophies at Boro and the league at Twente and only had 20 odd games at Wolfsburg. I think he is being judged harshly at club level due to his failure as international manager but at club level he is pretty damn good and by doing his coaching under SAF, then managing at international level and club level in europe he has very good experience! I think Villa will realise this if/ when they go for Martinez and somebody eventually takes a chance on McClaren (maybe Wigan)

As per the subject really, was just wondering if you have an app or have plans for one?
