Would you sacrifice survival for cup glory?
« on: January 26, 2015, 08:36:53 PM »
No brainer for me, if I could get to see us win the FA Cup, I wouldn't care if we never kicked a ball in the Prem again.
Best chance in years, hope we go all out for it. No more Lescott at left back and Gardner on the wing nonsense.

We have (or was that had?) a big enough squad to do both.

Didn't we get promoted under Mowbray when we got to the FA Cup Semis?

Wins breed confidence.

Agree, but if you were offered the cup and relegation right now, would you take it?

I hate the notion that its one or the other.

I'd happily settle for a few years in the conference if it meant I could see Albion lift a trophy at Wembley.

No question - I would chose an FA cup win without a moments thought.

FA Cup without a shadow of a doubt. You support a football club to see them win things.

But there is absolutely no excuse to do both. If League Two Bradford can reach a cup final and still get promoted, we have no excuse at all.

Out of interest,,why would you prefer to finish a boring 17th than win a cup?

Survival for me unfortunately, I'm willing to bet our older fans would rather fa cup glory and the younger fans (which I class myself as) would rather stay in the premiership.

I'm young and I certainly don't think like that. Anyone under the age of 40 will never have seen us in a major cup final.

Going down would take the shine off any cup glory, and as for Europe with the congested championship fixture list, no thanks. Just look at Wigan now.

I'm a very old fan, & given the choice, I'd rather stay in the prem. I'd sooner own a Jag, than have a red letter day with a Ferrari.

I just think you're in football to win things. And if your main aim isn't to win things, then what is the point?

Totally agree with that. No reason at all that it can't be both.

Winning a trophy is what being in the game is all about and it's been far too long since we won one. We should be having a real go at the cup this season.

I can see that? Not just the cup but the Euro stuff we waste time and  effort for fug all after while losing players injury etc Down goes Prem?. Different game these days from 68.

Premier League survival for me... huge priority

(and I'm an oldie)

The way that football is structured and financed now, being out of the Premier League would be fraught with HUGE dangers for our long term existence. (all the money is too concentrated at the Top)

BUT in saying that, I still think you can do both, especially the FA Cup rather than the League Cup, which has it's Final too much before the end of Season.

I would have to go 100% with the FA Cup. It would be a dream come true, something I've wanted and dreamt about ever since stepping inside The Hawthorns in 1983. It is still magical. The thought of European football again is also exciting, even though it's in the much maligned Europa League,it will still be so wonderful to watch the Albion in Europe. It might be another 47 years before we won the cup again, we can always get promoted back to the greed league next year!

I was always told to look at it this way.

In 40 years time what would you rather tell your grandchildren?

I saw Albion finish 8th in the Premier League or I saw Albion win the FA cup at Wembley and compete in Europe the following season?

They are memories I could hold forever. Memories I could bore my children and future grandchildren with.

I bet Wigan fans thought that.
