West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Carson
« on: May 14, 2011, 07:52:39 PM »
I think he had a very good game today.

However we were much better organised.  Given the amount of crosses / corners that Everton put into our box I think he made good decisions with his positioning every time.  Good keepers are able to better judge the flight and the angle so they can make a decision whether to come and catch / punch etc.  Maybe he really is still improving.

Long may these type of performance continue.

Well done Scotty.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Carson - time to go?
« on: April 17, 2011, 12:41:47 PM »
I can think of many goalkeepers who have made goal gifting errors this season.  These include:

Carson
Van der Sar
Gomes
Howard
Green
Foster
Hart
Almunia / Fabianski / Szczesny
Reina
Harper
Mignolet
Al Habsi
Kingson / Gilks
Hennesey / Hahnemann

That's almost every team.  The only difference is that most of these keepers listed do have runs of games where they make clear goal denying saves.

I can understand people having a go at Carson as he was at fault for the first two goals.  What's more frustrating is that we were on such a good run to concede three poor goals the way we did was a real kick in the teeth.

One of the reasons why Carson get lambasted often is because he is prone to making errors, he always has been.  I don't think it's confidence, I'm convinced its his concentration.  If Carson made regular goal denying or match winning saves then he would be given a little more slack if he made the odd error.

However, he is an average keeper prone to mistakes and always will be.  He's not going to get any better with age - that's a myth.  It's just something he can not shake from his game.

Was great to see Fergie on the TV last night.

I hope he picks up his fine for his comments made about the referee.

"These decisions can change the outcome of a season, it's not right at all"
"This ref will be out there again refereeing next week, it's ludicrous"
"Two off the ball incidents weren't picked up, they were right in front of him, it's incredible"

No pooh sherlock - Have some back you cheating B*****D.

Oh how I laughed !!

I've got a lot of mates who are saddlers fans.  They always look for the Albion scores and they hate they Dingles.  I'm not speaking for all of their fans but I think in general they dont mind the Albion at all.

I would like them to stay up for sure.

It's not my belief either, but then again im not a professional footballer.

That cross should have been headed away before it got near. Fortune should have cut it out and Dorrans should have done better.

I'm not blaming him.  I watched the match late last night and thought he had a good game.  His kicking is normally excellent with both feet so i'm sure he will get that right.

It was a surprise to see Carson as first choice though as I didn't think Myhill had done anything that warranted being dropped.

Carson was picked because he is bigger and stronger than Myhill.  Roy did the right thing picking a more physical team to play against the Stoke thugs.

Carson is not "bigger" than Myhill.

Strange, i was talking to an ex prem footballer who has recently retired and asked him about this - he said a professionals viewpoint is that the keepers job is to save shots on the line, not come for crosses. Plus that cross travelled a long way before hitting the area and should have been cut out.

Not doubting that you spoke to someone, but that is complete nonsense.

That's the main point with Reid, keeping him fit.

Fingers crossed.

I heard Whelan on the radio who is really p****d off about it, claiming bias and cheeting.  To be fair he is completely right.

If Clattenberg admits it was a mistake then apparently he will be shooting himself in the foot.  This is because he (apparantly, I didn't watch it) gave a free kick which means that he got a big decision wrong.  This could result in him stepping down a level for a short while.

The whole thing stinks.  It's just cheating.

Just give them the title now, they don't deserve it but if they want it that bad any every official and governing body want to give it them so blatently then let them have it.

There was an interseting article in the paper about why we come unstuck in the Euro's and World Cup finals.  Along the lines of the English players in the big four / five sides who make up the majority of he squad are used to getting decisions and getting away with murder.  This doesn't happen at big tournaments for us and our players move quickly out of their comfort zones resulting in poorer performances.  He definately has a valid point.

It's up to Hodgson to pick who he deems best to play.

However, I think if he sticks with Carson that it will come back to haunt him.  There always seems a mistake waiting around the corner.

I hope i'm proved wrong, but I think this could be Roy's biggest mistake.

I have purposely only just even looked at the result and team selection.  Until approx 10pm I have buried my head in the sand so to speak as I couldn't bring myself to sit through it.  I have been off my food since Saturday that's how bad it has got.

I was amazed with the team selection but a new manager a new start.  It's about time we used the squad properly.  Time for effort and performances to be put in or some of our players can expect to be warming the bench as Roy doesn't seem to be afraid to make a change.

Fair play, I would have taken a point.  By all accounts we could have nicked it but a point is a good result.

I had a feeling if we played one striker that Fortune would play.  I can't see Vela starting though, I think he will always be a sub.  The longest he will get will be 40 - 45 minutes.  Odemwingie needed a kick up the backside too and rightly handed out !!

It's a strange but good feeling that Roy is prepared to change the team from what we are all used to seeing and knowing.  It's also makes us less predictable to the opposition.  3 points against blues now and that would be a great week.

I think he will go 4-4-2.
Fortune will start also.

                        Myhill

    Reid       Pablo   Olsson    Shorey

Brunt      Mulumbu  Scharner  Thomas

           Odemwingie  Fortune

I can even see Vela maybe starting for Odemwingie.

This is disgraceful.

If youre a fan of these clubs where you basically get every decision going and then some.  Surely you must feel that you aren't really the best ?

It's like me playing golf, being able to kick my ball out of the rough without penalty and having the hole widened to dustbin lid size when i'm putting.  What's the point ? It's cheating at the end of the day.

Football is bent.

The 4 police officers on their bikes make me laugh, the ones that just lean on the railings watching the traffic before the match.  What a F****** waste of money they are.  Here's an idea, F*** them off before the game because they aren't needed and do absolute F*** all.  Bring them instead to the opposite junction after each match has finished and introduce some sort of control for half an hour or so to get the bulk of the fans across the bridge safely.

I don't think I can stand it to be honest with regards to tonight.

I'm going to go home, relax, perhaps clean my golf clubs.  Then later on when the match is finished i'll look for the result.

I've hardly eaten anything since we dropped into the bottom three.

We've had The Great Escape, The Great Surrender, The Great Wave Goodbye, I sincerely hope this season doesn't become The Great Flop.

FFS (not that I want Blues to win) but Bowyer clean through (definitely onside, brought down by Szczesny, definite penalty and a sending off.  Flagged offside :o :o
Where have I seen a big decision wrongly made like that before  ::) ::)

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Negativity
« on: February 27, 2011, 02:01:53 PM »
If you look at the stats of the teams around us or just above us there is reason to be optimistic.  The last 6 games played gives some indication of form.

There will be possibly several other from 10th down (possibly excluding Villa) that get dragged into the mix.  Monday is very important indeed, but I can see us causing a couple of upsets in the remaining games we have.  Acknowledged our run in is difficult, but we're in this league to play these types of games.

Sloppy management.

Persisting with formations that weren't fit for the occasion and persisting with a goalkeeper with no confidence didn't help either.

Not enough quality in defence even though with our first eleven available we are poor in that department anyway.

No discipline.

I'd like to understand exactly what happened in January.  If the rumours of who we were after are true and the activity that was under way, for only of of them to come off is a disgrace.

Something embarrassing will undoubtedly come out sooner or later that will make us the laughing stock as per usual.

I think it will be different with Roy in charge though.  By all accounts his scouting network links are massive.  I can see him leaving of his own accord if he gets f***** around though given the promises that have been made to him.

At least we have made a change with enough time to get out of it.

I know it's not an ideal amount of time but FFS we can start by working on being harder to beat,  which Roy is working on with the lads.

I feel sick when I look at the games we have rolled over in.  I'm starting to think now why we put up with RDM for so long given the performances and team selections.

Dingles now winning 4-0 FFS.

Wouldn't have been that score if then were playing 11 vs 11 though.

Come on Roy, lets turn it around against Stoke.

It was wrong to start him for the Wigan match, he wasn't ready.  It was also a match we needed to win so we didn't need experimentation from the kick off.  He should have been brought on perhaps for the last ten minutes.
From seeing his other performances though I am very pleased we bought him in.  I think he will be another Eduardo type player.  Hope he scores or creates the goals for us to stay up this season.
