I just hope Slaven isn’t reading this. If he is, I’m right behind anything you do.  ;D

Would prefer Harper over Barry or Brunt, Livermore and Brunt hasn't been a great success in the past. But this is a 3 game decision not just 1.

They are missing their best player Johnson, from their midfield.
Makes it easier to put Harper in ?

Why not just swap Semi for Barry?

Why take Hegazi off?

That’s largely irrelevant.. there are so many variables as to why.

the main thing is that Bilic  corrected his error and has never tried the experiment since

Hegazi had recently returned from injury and looked poor. A quick review of the after match debate thread confirms he had a ‘car crash’ and ‘looked rusty’.

It was our worst home performance of the season and it coincided with a dysfunctional midfield. That midfield had far more control when Ajayi was out the midfield and replace with real quality in that area.

it's arguably only a 2 game decision as Sawyers was unlikely to play in the Cup game.

I think it's a sort of 3 game decision because whoever plays the 2 league games most likely won't play in the cup, that's assuming whoever plays tonight also plays on Saturday.

I think it's going to be Harper.

Recently we've been playing 433 instead of the usual 4231. On this basis i think it will be Harper. Krov, Livermore and Harper in the middle. Slav just needs to decide who sits in midfield.

The decision is who replaces Sawyers though, so assuming that Sawyers wasn't going to play in the cup anyway (like he hasn't so far) then it's a two game decision.

I'd expect the cup midfield to feature both Brunt and Barry (if both are fit) and probably Harper too.

I 100% get that but i do think it now may have an affect on the cup game as 3 games in 7 days may be too much for one of the old boys or a youngster that's barely featured. So i agree and disagree at the same time if that's possible!

Yeah I know what you mean!
Harper might be able to play the 3 games (I imagine he would have been playing in the cup regardless) but it might be that we go back to 4-2-3-1 formation for the cup game and just play Brunt and Barry in the holding positions and Grosicki, Phillips and Edwards behind Austin or Zohore?

Not a bad 2nd choice midfield!

Why change our front formation to replace 1 player when any 1 of 3 who can play in that players role, Sorry don't get it .
Rekeem for me with Brunty/Barry comeing on for the last 15/20 mins.
We dont need the disruption.
COYB

Because the replacement options are not as good as Sawyers.

The only thing with Sawyer's which may benefit us is his tendancy to turn back when a forward pass is possible, playing forward more quickly may pay dividends.

I think this is harsh. As per this on twitter https://twitter.com/Blades_analytic/status/1229372315332378624 Sawyers plays more passes into the final third per 90 mins than all but 4 other midfielders. I do take the point however that a contributing factor is our style of play, the fact we have players available to receive those passes and that we have more possession than a lot of teams. However it still proves to me that Sawyers progresses the play plenty and is a vital cog for us.

Interestingly, Livermore plays a high amount of passes into the final third too; I wonder if this will skew more in Sawyers' favour since Livermore is playing further forward.

Think a few people might be in for a rude awakening tonight. The way we are set up Sawyers will be missed massively whoever comes in. The key is to reduce how much of a negative impact it has. Brunt is the closest like for like replacement and should get the nod imo.

My preferred option would be to play Krovinovic in a deep-lying playmaker role, with Perreira in the central attacking midfielder role and either Grosicki or Phillips on the right wing.

Failing that, I'd prefer Harper's young legs in central midfield to Brunt or Barry.

Harper very tidy in possession. Can't remember him losing the ball. Seemed to play slightly further forward than Sawyers. Maybe he could have been a bit more threatening, but given he's just come into the team he needs to build up his confidence.

Had a good game but no reservations about him in the Livermore role. Which is where he played tonight.

I thought both players played highier up the pitch when the time was right, seemless introduction to the starting 11 by Harper.

Harper desperately needs more first team football. At just 19 he still has a great chance to become a real player. Has plenty to develop but has the attributes. Experience and confidence will do him wonders.

Should start Saturday and bar a mare, should start vs Newcastle and see if he can apply real pressure on the first team.

He was great considering he’s not started for ages. Very mature performance and almost capped it off with a spectacular goal.
