I'm glad he's gone and I wish him well.

Personally I didn't think we should have bought him in the first place, I said at the time that having one good season in the Championship doesn't make someone a Premier league goal scorer.

If you look at his career he only once scored more than 9 league goals and that was the season before we bought him when he got 23 for Reading which with hindsight is looking more and more like a freak occasion.

For me he didn't improve as a player in his time with us 8 league goals in each season and only really being consistent for 4 months per season.

The time was right for him to move on.

I was going to write something similar. So I won't bother.

Wonderfully summed up, for me.

Talk about fever pitch I have just seen someone post that that there is a rumour of a press conference tomorrow at 2pm. For pities sake next there will be a rumour about a rumour. Get a grip and stop betting AVB you are terrifying the bookies with your mighty £10 wagers they are running away now as short as 5/1 (the sniveling cowards)

Blimey, who had a poo on your pancake this morning?!  ;D

IIRC, this used to be a messageboard, where fans could post opinions, and could also post about news they had heard, which would then be discussed with other fans.

I haven't been around for a long time, due to the quite evident loss of it's once great sense of humour, but I presumed that was still the premise of this place? Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Here you have a prime example of what a little rumour on the internet can do to bookies odds.

Lesson: Don't pay any attention to them.

that was a very long pre-season

And to think, people are now stressing about the delay on our managerial appointment, a good few weeks before they can actually do anything with the squad or new acquisitions anyway.

If this is a sign of expectations for the season, I am going to resign from the internet.

AVB's odds plummeting.

Are we really interested any more in who actually will be our next coach or has this descended into a simple attempt to break the page record and be the first to break the news when it arrives. Ive got this sad vision of hundreds nee thousands of baggies fans camped at their computer screen surrounded by empty pizza boxes whilst furiously flicking through the 25 windows open on the desktop for the golden nugget of information................i need to go and lie down

You obviously weren't around for Yellowstepsgate.

Not sure if it's already been mentioned (can't be arsed to trawl through the pages) but a press conference is due at 2pm tomorrow. Apparently, by no means confirmed.

Also, not sure if it's been covered, but I imagine it has something to do with tomorrow being the 1st June.

Just saying.

Guess you had to be quicker then!  ;D

Oddschecker is showing for AVB:

64 Betfair
40 Betfred

33s with BlueSQ, 888, bet365 and Victor.

Apparently his coaching methods are similar to Roys, strong matchlike drills etc.

Hes been SAF's assistant since 2008 so much have something especially as SAF decided to promote him rather than bring someone in when Queiroz left.

Your observation of being dour is one downside however.

Phelan would be a sodding disaster.

The last time AVB heard any of our voices we were singing sacked in the morning!  oops.

Sly!

FWIW, put a quid on AVB. Do it quickly, and you can get 60s.

I think Mart should now head this up, he is perfect as he has expirience in the smooth running of this type of thing.

Can i suggest the banner says "BO NG B ING"

It's "ng Bo" FFS

Why not purchase a page in the Wolves programme with a smug message on it?!  :D

Well I'd suggest the main biff behind this gets in touch with the Mail and requests that they remove the story.

Mind, will be too late now anyway.

FWIW, sounded like a great p**-take idea, but I fear it won't have the same effect now. Now it will be like "Oh, look, there's that banner flying over us that we read about" rather than actually taking the pee out of them.

Sorry, don't mean to put a dampener on it! Top marks to the guys concerned, was a brilliant plan. But it would appear the Brum Mail have spoiled the surprise.

Only just caught up with this.

Now it's out into the press, the entire humour and surprise element of it will have disappeared.

Who sent the story to the Brum Mail?

It's a shame you've formed those opinions because you're basically guessing about his mindset and then writing a player off.

A pretty accurate guess if you ask me.

I reckon we should sign this bloke. He had a successful season-long loan with us last season. We could do with him back.

Buy the book! Some cracking stories in there from the Clubhouse days, and then S5. I drink with a few of the old boys and despite being well out of the whole thing now, they always regale you with cracking stories from back in the day.

Before the days of CCTV and Portman watching your every move.  >:(

The only criticism I would have of the board is why hold the AGM in London?

Surely most albion shareholders (I'm not one) are midlands based?

You've answered your own question lad!

This thread is comedy gold.

Goodness gracious me. Trying to be as respectful as possible, hence why I have for the first time in my life ever used "goodness gracious me" in a sentence, other than talking about the hilarious sketch show from 10+ years ago!

But some people REALLY need to get a grip on what we are as a club, where we stand in terms of financial ability, and moreover, the appeal we have to "youth" that aren't already attached to this club. For example, my son is already a die hard baggie, despire only attending the Hawthorns about half a dozen times. He's only 4 though, so understandable. Both myself and his mother, bless her, very much raise him on the fact that he IS Albion, always will be. And he loves the whole scene.

But FFS, a club like ours is simply not going to attract kids who are not attached to a club. Fact. Such idealistic views belong in the 60s and 70s, or in the minds of people who don't actually know what football is about.

Besides, and fine if you don't agree, having spent a lot of time trying to re-ignite passion in a certain way from snoozy fans over the last few years, it will either come natural or it won't. None of us chose to support the Albion because of the fact we were trendy, or "the" team to watch. It was bred into us. Naturally, we would all like to see a 30,000+ seater sold out stadium, as them scruffy urchins up the road am trying to achieve. But we know that it won't be 30,000 supporters.

Give me 4,000 hardcore Albion lads and lasses over 10,000 plastics any day of the week.
