Its pretty standard at the moment to apply for a 3 month extension to filling accounts due to Covid disruption - virtually all of these extension requests are being granted by Companies House.

I don't want us to pad the squad out with players who won't get used, but I really think we should be looking at bringing in some CB cover if Dara is indeed expected to be out for 3-4 months.

This is crazy...
- no ambition by the player
- no ambition from the club
- tieing up wages on a player than didn't get in the squad for us last year

Why wont we give the guy a chance? I am dumbfounded.

Given he wasn't even in the new larger squad, I wonder whether he was 1 of the unnamed 8 across the Championship who had tested positive for Covid-19.

Looks like Tulloch may sign a new deal after all, with Fitzwater expected to be released at the end of the season.  Story from the Athletic; https://theathletic.co.uk/1859826/2020/06/09/rayhaan-tulloch-west-brom-contract-bilic/

Rayhaan Tulloch will be in West Bromwich Albion’s squad for the final nine games of the Championship season amid increasing optimism that he will commit his future to the club.

The teenage winger, one of the most highly-rated players to emerge from The Hawthorns academy in recent years, has returned to training with Slaven Bilic’s first team ahead of the proposed restart of the Championship season on June 20.

And the 19-year-old is now expected to sign a long-term contract at Albion, having appeared likely earlier in the season to leave as a free agent as the parties struggled to find common ground in negotiations.

Intriguingly, young centre-back Jack Fitzwater is also among the group training at the club’s Walsall training ground despite being almost certain to be released at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old will provide cover for regular centre-backs Semi Ajayi, Ahmed Hegazi and Kyle Bartley, although it is likely that Dara O’Shea and Darnell Furlong, who have operated at right-back this season, would be preferred to Fitzwater at centre-back initially should Albion suffer an injury crisis.

Fitzwater, who has spent three separate spells on loan with Walsall in League One, is almost certain to be released at the end of the campaign but, with centre-back the one area of his squad where Bilic is short of cover, Fitzwater could yet get the chance to impress scouts as Albion attempt to clinch promotion to the Premier League.

The academy graduate performed well in the FA Cup victory at Charlton in January but has yet to make a league appearance for Albion.

Tulloch, meanwhile, seemed certain to leave before football shut down in March. Discussions over a new contract had stalled with clubs in England and Scotland, including Rangers and Aston Villa, expressing an interest.

Albion had concluded that the player’s wage demands were too high to justify a professional contract. However, the likely changed face of football after the coronavirus shutdown combined with productive talks during lockdown means a deal is now virtually completed and Tulloch could yet play a part in the hectic end-of-season schedule of nine behind-closed doors matches in four and a half weeks.

The winger will find himself behind Matheus Pereira, Callum Robinson, Matt Phillips, Grady Diangana, Kamil Grosicki and potentially Kyle Edwards in the scramble for places but, with all clubs expecting a higher-than-normal rate of muscle injuries due to the lengthy lay-off and shortened ‘pre-season’ schedule, Tulloch could yet come into Bilic’s thinking.

Tulloch has impressed observers with his displays for Albion’s under-23s and, once he has signed a long-term deal at The Hawthorns, can be expected to play an increasing role in Albion’s future plans.

If the club are promoted to the Premier League for next season, Tulloch could be loaned to a club in the Championship or League One depending how the EFL landscape appears in a post-COVID world.

Two more players whose contracts expire this summer are also expected to figure for Bilic’s side in the remainder of the season. Long-serving captain Chris Brunt has already confirmed he intends to play on until the end of the season despite announcing he will leave Albion this summer.

Gareth Barry, whose deal is set to expire on June 30, has returned to training and is also expected to agree a short-term extension to complete the season. The contractual situation regarding Nathan Ferguson is less clear with the defender having made clear his desire to leave Albion when his deal expires.

However, the point is likely to be moot given Ferguson’s rehabilitation from knee surgery is expected to last into the late summer. He is expected to start next season at Crystal Palace, whether he joins them on July 1 or remains technically an Albion player until the new end date for the 2019-20 season.

Very fair, in my opinion, but already seen some negative comments on social media.

There's a range of options to suit everyone.

U18's can't take the iFollow option, but you'd imagine most would have access to their parents.  (They also can take the other options or get put into a prize draw to win mascot packages or next year's shirt).

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Ahmed Hegazi
« on: December 23, 2019, 08:37:09 AM »
From The Athletic;

Ahmed Hegazi could start for West Bromwich Albion at Barnsley on Boxing Day but the defender’s future beyond January is uncertain after he was left out of the squad for Saturday’s draw against Brentford. The Egypt international was omitted by manager Slaven Bilic following a dispute over his non-participation in a training drill on the eve of the game.

And, with the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad making the opening moves in a bid to lure Hegazi from The Hawthorns, Albion are braced for a lengthy transfer saga in the new year as they try to keep the 28-year-old at the club and reverse a gradual fracturing of relations that culminated in Friday’s disagreement.

The Athletic understands Hegazi’s omission on Saturday followed a difference of opinion over his role in one training drill during Friday’s final preparations for the Brentford fixture.

Bilic believed Hegazi, who made such an impression in the Premier League during his first season at the club, playing all 38 of their league matches in 2017-18, had refused to take part in the session and the West Brom head coach reacted by axing him from the squad for Saturday’s game.

Hegazi, however, insists he had not been asked to take part in the drill and was surprised by his non-involvement against the London side, who left The Hawthorns with a point after Henrik Dalsgaard’s 43rd-minute header was cancelled out by a similar goal from Darnell Furlong in first-half stoppage time.

The incident was the culmination of several weeks of mounting frustrations for Hegazi at his continued absence from the starting XI.

Most Albion supporters and, it seems, Hegazi himself, had expected him to return to the team once he was fully fit after summer ankle surgery left him unavailable for selection until October. Bilic, however, has opted to keep faith with Semi Ajayi and Kyle Bartley, whose partnership in central defence has helped Albion claim top spot in the Championship at Christmas.

The disagreement dates back to the end of last season, when Hegazi chose to delay surgery in order to represent Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations, which his country hosted. Having the operation at the start of the summer would have given Hegazi a chance to be fit for the start of the season, reducing the risk of losing his starting place. Hegazi insisted, however, that having played through the pain for Albion in the Championship play-off semi-final against Aston Villa, it was reasonable to do likewise to take part in a major international tournament on home soil.

He cancelled holiday plans to have surgery and begin his rehabilitation immediately after Egypt’s elimination at the hands of South Africa in the last-16 on July 6. His rehabilitation gave summer signing Ajayi and Bartley the chance to cement their places in the team, leaving Hegazi as an increasingly frustrated onlooker.

Hegazi’s omission on Saturday coincided with an ankle injury that forced Bartley off the field early in the second half. That meant Dara O’Shea, the 20-year-old Irishman who graduated from Albion’s academy, made his Championship debut, having replaced Hegazi among the substitutes.

O’Shea is likely to travel to Oakwell on Boxing Day but, with Hegazi having served his unofficial suspension, Bilic could opt for his extra experience from the start if Bartley fails to shake off his injury in time to partner Ajayi.

That would add another dynamic to Al-Ittihad’s likely pursuit of Hegazi next month. The Saudi club who, coincidentally, were managed briefly by Bilic, have signalled their interest and are likely to be encouraged by news of Friday’s incident. The Athletic understands that no formal bid has yet been lodged but Al-Ittihad have made clear their interest and value Hegazi at around £3.5 million.

Given Hegazi’s recent absence from the team, a parting of the ways might suit both parties but it would take a significantly higher bid to give Albion a dilemma, given that Hegazi’s departure would leave them requiring a replacement in the January transfer window.

They would not be prepared to go into the second half of the season with just Bartley, Ajayi and O’Shea as centre-back options.

Nathan Ferguson and Darnell Furlong both have experience of playing at centre-back but both are viewed as full-backs by Bilic, and Ferguson’s own future is uncertain after his representatives put talks over a five-year contract offer from Albion on hold.

Stoke City are being linked with a move for young West Brom forward Rayhaan Tulloch, according to reports. The Potters are one of a number of Championship clubs thought to be keeping track of the 18-year-old, according to the Daily Mail .

Fellow Championship duo Wigan Athletic and Leeds United are reportedly tracking the youngster’s progress at The Hawthorns, as are League One outfit Sunderand, as Albion consider letting the youngster leave on loan.

Tulloch is also attracting Premier League interest, with Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Southampton and Newcastle United all said to be in attendance for West Brom’s Under-23s clash against Manchester United this evening at Leigh Sports Village.

Peter Coates is a huge personal friend of Pulis

Hegazi is apparently being announced by ahli In the next few hours.

I can't see it - I think there is a possibility he'll leave, but not to a Middle East club. It will be to a half decent team, in a half decent league.

I'm disappointed at Daniel Stendel from Barnsley isn't in the frame.  He's done a great job getting them promoted after rebuilding the team after relegation despite losing his main striker at the start of the season and then Kieffer Moore being ruled out from mid-season through concussion.

By my reckoning, he has been on our books for 16 weeks. At a reported £30,000 a week it looks like its cost us getting on for £500,000 for absolutely minimal return on the pitch.

Some of these 'cheap', penny pinching options are a complete waste of money.

I've just read that he played 160 minutes of competitive football - That's a 90 minute equivalent of £280,000 per game.  ???

General Football & Sports / Re: Harvey Barnes (on loan from Leicester)
« on: January 11, 2019, 11:01:58 AM »
Sadly, its no surprise to me; Leicester did the same thing with Barnsley last season. He carried them somewhat until mid-season and his departure was the start of their demise to getting relegated. His departure shouldn't have such a pronounced effect on us, but we still need a quality replacement in as soon as possible to continue the promotion push.

Barnes sometimes doesn't do enough over the whole 90 mins, but he is one of a small number of players that can create something from nothing and ultimately score match winning goals and its this quality that will impact us most and is really difficult to replace as everybody is looking for the same qualities.

If Sako had been given more time around the first team, he would be the obvious answer. However his lack of minutes and minimal impact he's made when he's played suggests this is not the solution.

Similarly, Harper could be an option in the current Matt Phillips role, allowing Phillips to play further forward. However, I don't think the coaching team will put their faith in him when there is so much at stake this season.

Hopefully our esteemed technical director has some aces up his sleeve and Jenkins gets the cheque book out. Sadly I fear neither will happen.
