Hamstrung......
« on: December 29, 2012, 11:50:20 AM »
Is it me or are we just getting a few too many ´Hammys´to be a coincidence. Only half the season gone and already 6 or 7 of our major players have suffered from a hamstring injury, considering our sports science/ medical department is reportedly well respected within the game i would have thought that this is a major concern especially as i doubt whether we have had the worst of conditions yet.

I've been thinking this myself this season , Reid ,Mulumbu, Yacob, Jones.....possibly a few more.
Im sure the club will look into it if they haven't already.

Coincidence.
sorry kk cant agree,3 or 4 maybe but we´re averaging 1 every 2 or 3 games a lot of them e.g Popov´s were from innocent situations not coming after full blown chases.

I very much suspect it's less of a hamstring problem per se as much as a general lack of emphasis on stretching exercises and muscular/tendon conditioning??? Hamstrings are groins are especially vulnerable for football players, so they're where any general shortcoming is going to show up first. Anyway, pure speculation on my part ...

A good thread.

Interesting, something i hadn't noticed. I'd be very surprised if our medical team havn't looked into this and it may be why Yacob is out for the time he is, to fully recover 110% and put a solution to the problem. Having said that, i'd rather it be a hamstring problem over achilles tendons etc.

An absolute coincidence in my opinion.  Anyone who has played football, at any level, will understand that the way you are stretching and extending your legs and the general movement your legs will take during a game means that any footballer will be massively susceptible and vulnerable to a hamstring injury.  You can do as many stretches as you like but in the case of a hamstring they can be pulled, strained, torn at any point regardless of any sort of exhaustive stretching or exercise regimes/techniques.

too many to be a coincidence for me too. is it anything to do with a  new training regime brought in by SC...I certainly can't think of another season like it for us. Worrying...and frustrating as we've hardly been able to pick our "best" 11 this season.
