Perhaps they'll bring two minibus loads rather than the usual one? Hopefully more of the Smethwick will be opened up to home supporters.
-
Yeah they don’t normally bring many do they , I do remember them selling out the once though, it was a midweek game in the 2nd promotion season. Pretty sure it was 1st v 2nd at the time. Tommy Gaardsoe scoring in the last few minutes to win it for us

I remember that one. Nice to give them some pay back with a late 2-1 victory after we'd taken thousands to theirs for the 0-1 midweek defeat earlier in the season 8) .

I'd be very happy with that too

The only one out the starting 11 that couldn’t do two games in a week is Barry but he came off yesterday after an hour. So hopefully no changes Wednesday. Maybe some changes against sheff weds if he needs to.

Same team. With Barry doing a hour before bringing on Morrison or Brunt.
-
Same again for me if all are fit. Why change anything?
-
If it aint broke don't try to fix it. Same team providing we have no injuries.
-
Wigan have an allocation of 1,653. On Thursday there were 300 left and Wigan fans had until yesterday to get them as it’s all ticket. So they aren’t going to be far away from selling out
-
Out of the 2 home games this is the one where I think we could make 5 changes and win but then again we don’t want to ruin the momentum built
-
The team ow us after a very poor display away against Wigan. Nice 3.0 win
-
Same team, but give them an earlier rest with substitutions

We didn't sell out on Boxing Day in our last season in this division either.
-
We didn't sell out on Boxing Day in our last season in this division either.
The way we're playing we should be selling out easily. We're struggling.
-
Same team for me with the exception of HRK or Sakho in for Jrod. He's looked out of form for a good few matches now.
-
Same team for me, Morrison and HRK might feel hard done by, but they will get a chance again soon and they need to be up for it.
-
Are they selling on Boxing Day morning? I'm sure they'll all go if that's the case.
-
Are they selling on Boxing Day morning? I'm sure they'll all go if that's the case.
I would expect so. It'll be interesting to see if they put Block A3 on sale, A6 only 16 left now.
-
I'd freshen it up slightly, I'd prefer to make a couple of changes in each game rather than say 5 changes in one:
Johnstone
Adarabioyo
Dawson
Hegazi
Gibbs
Phillips
Barry
Morrison
Robson-Kanu
Gayle
Barnes
Myhill, Mears, Brunt, Harper, Hoolahan, Sako, Rodriguez
I do worry about Gibbs and Phillips, both with histories of muscular injuries, getting through all of the games and would look at resting them both vs Sheffield Wednesday I think. Dropping Livermore wouldn't be a reflection on him as such, it would be rest and Harper would make the bench ahead of him as we need a home-grown player whereas Hoolahan is in there as an offensive option.

Just had a quick look and totted up the following figures:
Smeth (11 in A6 , A3 yet to go on sale and probably won’t now)
Halfords 17
Brummie (including the Woodman Corner) 95
East stand (including Millennium Corner) 39
Total remaining tickets from those currently on sale = 162
I don't think it's disappointing at all. I actually think it's pretty good when you factor in who we're playing (no disrespect to Wigan). I'm just hoping those in attendance are in full voice on the day.
COYB 8) .

I've said this before. I think either v Wigan or Sheffield Wednesday Townsend will have to play 90 to make sure we don't have Gibbs over do it.
I would play Morrison and Barry with Livermore on boxing day and rest Phillips also.
Whilst I have been advocating dropping Rodriguez 2 changes would be sufficient and hopefully wouldn't damage momentum
-
Heading up for this one with my brother whose over from Oz 8)
If anyone is in the Sportsman Pre match come and say hello :D
Shouldn’t be able to miss us I’ll have McNeill and 70 on the back (my Dads last shirt before he passed away)
Cannot wait to finally get back to the shrine...it’s been too long
-
I'm at a family event so this will be the first game of the season I miss, think we should win, but you never know with fixtures this time of year - they always throw up funny results.
-
Guess that they will set up to do exactly as they did at their place. Will play very deep and always try to battle with a packed defence. Hopefully we can break them down and get an early goal. Otherwise this is likely to be a bit of a struggle.

There are no seats available in A3 online.
As you say phone would probably be best option for anyone still after tickets unless you can get to the ticket office soon. I wouldn't be relying on online.

First time back at The Hawthorns for a good while.
Good to be back

Unchanged team

Funnily enough going to the cup game against Wigan hope we win
-
West Bromwich Albion 1 - 0 Wigan Athletic
Rodriguez

1-0. J-Rod header.

Boom! J ROD
-
Hell yeah boys
-
Gayle off HRK on...looked like a knee problem
-
Walked off so wouldn't be serious

Are we bossing the game lads
-
19’
Walton is quick off his line to make a brave save to deny Robson-Kanu from Barry's sublime throughball. So close to 2-0 but the Baggies have a corner which will be delayed as the Latics stopper is unable to continue.
-
21’
Hegazi heads over from Phillips' corner. Walton runs to collect the ball from behind the goal so he looks set to continue between the sticks.
-
24’
Wigan are holding firm for now but it's all Albion. Barnes' low drive is blocked by Burn.
-
26’
Rodriguez's volley from the edge of the area is blocked by a Wigan defender.
-
Cheers for updates mukka
-
28’
Garner is only cautioned for a terrible tackle on Hegazi. It could have been red.
-
Cheers for updates mukka
My pleasure :D
-
29’
SAVE! Barnes tries his luck with a cross-cum-shot which takes a deflection but Walton does well to tip over.
-
30’
Adarabioyo heads well over from Phillips' corner.
-

-
31'
Craig Dawson (West Bromwich Albion) wins a free kick in the defensive half.
-
34'
Attempt blocked. Matt Phillips (West Bromwich Albion) left footed shot from outside the box is blocked. Assisted by Hal Robson-Kanu.
-
36’
Phillips drives a 25-yard effort well over the bar with Rodriguez screaming for the ball in space out wide.
-
36'
Attempt blocked. Joe Garner (Wigan Athletic) right footed shot from the right side of the box is blocked. Assisted by Gavin Massey.
-
We need to score with this amount of the ball or it might come back to bite us it we dont
-
37
Paul Cook very animated on the touchline. I'm not surprised. His team are giving Barry acres of space in midfield.
Rodriguez has gone right and HRK down the middle.
-
38'
Ahmed Hegazi (West Bromwich Albion) wins a free kick in the defensive half.
-
37

Good news that keep inter changing lads make there defence work
-
We are lucky to be playing a truly awful team. We have been really poor so far.
Tosin is having another really poor game
-
41'
Reece James (Wigan Athletic) wins a free kick in the defensive half.
41'
Foul by Jay Rodriguez (West Bromwich Albion).
42'
Attempt missed. Kal Naismith (Wigan Athletic) right footed shot from outside the box misses to the left. Assisted by Josh Windass.

45+2’
Wigan have a dangerous free-kick on the right after a foul by Hegazi.
45+3’
Barry clears at the back post from Wigan's right-flank free-kick.
-
45+4’
ALBION 1 WIGAN 0
-
Sounds like its all us on the radio. They've had a few chances but its been pretty much all Albion.
-
Hope we don't live to regret not getting a second
-
The tempo hasn't really been there. Wigan are a poor side but we've passed and passed without any real penetration.
Good header by Rodriguez; shame that Gayle has to go off.
-
They didn't create many chances but we need to do better when in possession to ensure 3 points.
-
One of thing that is noticeable is our lack of width on the right. They have a tall left back (Dan Burn) and we haven't looked to isolate him 1v1 at all, nor have we looked to stretch their defence to give our players in the centre more room to play. As it is now, we're trying little flicks to create something, and it's not coming off.
-
Important that we win this. Bar Leeds, every other scoreline is perfect for us at half time.
-
And there was the first casualty of the lack of rotation. Let's home he's not badly injured. >:(
-
Sloppy passing at times , need the 2nd
-
Playing OK until final third then we either miss place a pass or try to over complicate play. Phillips has been quite so has Barnes only for goal I wouldn't think Rodriguez was on pitch. Gayle injury has robbed us of our most potent goal threat.
-
Second Half Underway
-
46’
Wigan get us back underway with Albion now attacking the Birmingham Road End.
-
Bit of info guys if anyone has Sky Sports you can watch it on match choice :P
Like I have just found out!
-
47’
Rodriguez heads clear from James' left-wing corner.
-
48'
Offside, West Bromwich Albion. Gareth Barry tries a through ball, but Kieran Gibbs is caught offside.
-
50'
Fantastic ball from Rodriguez out to Phillips, who lays it on a plate for HRK, but he can't get the decisive touch. Great chance.
-
Kanu has to score there :o
-
51'
Attempt missed. Kal Naismith (Wigan Athletic) left footed shot from outside the box is too high.
-
52'
Attempt missed. Kieran Gibbs (West Bromwich Albion) header from the centre of the box misses to the right. Assisted by Jay Rodriguez with a cross.
-
53’
Adarabioyo is alert to Wigan danger and blocks Naismith's cross, Latics corner.
-
53’
Burn eventually heads well wide after the visitors a short corner on the left.
-
Please can we sign a right back and a striker. Tosin is attrocious and kanu what can I say
-
Attendance: 25,555 (1,105 away)

-
58’
Adarabioyo earns Albion a corner on the right.
-
59’
The visitors head clear from Phillips' corner.
-
59'
Foul by Matt Phillips (West Bromwich Albion).
-
Matt Wilson ""How s**t must you be, it's only 1-0," sing the away end. Not sure what the Wigan players make of that..."
-
60'
Foul by Hal Robson-Kanu (West Bromwich Albion).
-
Matt Wilson "Referee has just got a throw-in decision wrong and Cook is furious. Rightly so, considering the assistant flagged the right way. Anyway, livening up a bit here at last."
-
64’
Livermore is cautioned for a foul on McManaman.
-
65’
Massey fires a yard over after a Wigan free-kick landed at his feet just inside the area.
-
65’
Phillips' ball in goes inches over Barnes on the edge of the six-yard box.
-
I can see this coming a mile off: Macmanaman (Wigan, 89)
-
67’
SAVE! Walton makes an excellent one-handed save to keep out Barnes' low effort. The Latics keeper looked beaten but keeps his side in with a superb stop.
-
West Bromwich Albion 2 - 0 Wigan Athletic
Rodriguez
-
68’
Barnes is felled 35 yards from goal and Albion have a free-kick in a promising position on the right.

-
Matt Wilson "The whole of The Hawthorns shouted "HIT IT!" as the ball bounced up kindly for Rodriguez, and he duly did. Cracking finish."
-
Surely it's worth giving Sako a few minutes...HRK is awful...
-
76’
Evans replaces Massey for the visitors.
-
77'
Attempt missed. Kal Naismith (Wigan Athletic) header from the centre of the box misses to the left. Assisted by Reece James with a cross.

78’
Robson-Kanu wins a corner on the right.

Matt Wilson "FT WBA 2-0 Wigan - If Gayle doesn't get you, Rodriguez will. It's now eight games unbeaten and back-to-back clean sheets for the first time this season. Thanks to Norwich losing, Baggies now two points off 2nd. Report online soon."
-
Great result, well done Darren and co. Think these last 2 clean sheets have been lucky but I'll take them.
Good set of results for us, I have no idea how Leeds and Norwich keep pulling it out of the bag but for me we just need to be better than Norwich over the next 22 games.
-

And there was the first casualty of the lack of rotation. Let's home he's not badly injured. >:(
If you were to rotate you wouldn’t rotate him. He’s just back in the team. JRod, Livermore,Phillips,Gibbs, the back two would all need a break before Gayle.
-
Looked pretty simple, really. Not much drama needed (unlike elsewhere) to get the result...
We now have the most points we've ever had at this stage of the Championship season... ;D
-
Solid 3 points and another clean sheet.
Happy to see J-Rod scores, the 2nd goal is a great goal.
-
We didn't do anything spectacular, we didn't need to, Wigan were poor and we cantered to a win. Desperately hoping our best striker isn't badly injured.
-
I missed most of the game. What happened to Gayle?
Behind Barnes I'd say he's our most important player this season. Maybe we will sign a striker in January.
-

Got clipped before he set up the first goal. Unsure if it was heel, ankle or knee that was the problem but looked more precautionary than anything serious
-
Solid performance as mentioned didn't need to be at our best against Wigan thought Barry was our best player with Hegazi solid in defence. Puzzled by position played by kanu as he is not a centre forward when he came on.
-

Really? Wow that’s impressive.
-

Hamstring injury
-
Another professional performance - Wigan were very poor and we looked pretty comfortable.
First half seemed a bit lacking in energy - despite controlling the game. Second half was much of the same although there was more urgency in our forward play.
Barry was yet again a class above. Oozes class
-
Not the greatest game, but take the points.
Gareth Barry was absolutely superb yet again. Still cannot believe we went 15 games with Brunt in the centre of our midfield...
If Gayle is out, please try Sako out wide and not HRK who just is not a footballer. One good game against Leeds versus 50 other games of utter dross for us.
-
Professional performance again, Barry as stated a class act. Could do without any injuries or suspensions from the midfield 3 as they seen settled and better than any others as a combination with Morrison coming on when needed.
-
Just to add thought the referee was shocking for both teams. Gibbs challenge early on could and possibly should have given them a pen and the challenge on Rodriguez towards the end was appalling. Joe Garner seemed determined to get himself sent off.
-
We weren’t great today but did enough to win, Barry was absolutely outstanding again. I hope the minute the clock strikes midnight on the 1st & the window opens we are in for a right back. I feel for Tosin he clearly isn’t a right back and is doing the best he can but everything came down his side and on several occasions he didn’t pick up the man at the back post and it very nearly cost us. Get a decent right back in and I think we’l be a lot more balanced.
-
That Rodriguez is rubbish isn't he??!! ;D
Joking apart, solid but unspectacular performance today. Barry was class again, I thought Jake played well and I thought Hegazi was commanding. The negative points for me were Dawson's poor distribution, and [for a change] Tosin was absolute bobbins........if Wigan could have been more accurate we would have lost that game, so hopefully we will learn something from it, they will not all be that easy.
-
Another 3 points.
Clean sheet. Consecutive clean sheets (will give Johnstone & co confidence)
Caught 2 points up on Norwich
Subs used well. Livermore & Gibbs both played 90 at Rotherham.
Rodriguez positive contribution hopefully gives him much needed confidence boost.
Only sour note is Gayle going off. Hopefully just precautionary and nothing too serious.
Bar that late goals for Norwich and Leeds are hard to take. Hopefully we can gain more ground Saturday

A pleasing win - these are the type of games we normally slip up in
-
Have to be happy with the win but there is too much sloppy play through out the game for me to be convinced they can keep on the heels of the top two. Darren Moore has mentioned on radio wm there are areas he is not happy with, I can only think he is talking about this. The passing, the movement and decision making all need improving, otherwise better teams than Wigan will take advantage.
-
24,450 Albion fans in attendance today. 1,105 from Wigan.
-
We looked comfortable without ever really getting going today. Much the better team though. Goals came at the right times for us.
Second consecutive clean sheet.
Happy enough.
-
First time I have seen us live for a while. Great performance which I really enjoyed. Looked like we never really got out of 2nd gear but Wigan did well to contain us and were a physical side.
Only criticism is we despratly need a right back the lad fr0m Man city looks a liability every time he is near the ball.
-
Just to add thought the referee was shocking for both teams. Gibbs challenge early on could and possibly should have given them a pen and the challenge on Rodriguez towards the end was appalling. Joe Garner seemed determined to get himself sent off.
Haven't had a chance to look again but the challenge on Hegazi from Garner looked like two feet off the ground. Not even 5 meters in front of the Linesman!
Agree about the Gibbs challenge - felt that was a stonewall pen.
-
We should have had a penalty when Barnes was pushed in the box from a high through ball in the second half. Clear hands in his back and pushed over. Right in line with where I sit.

Hegazi tackle was right in front of me. Two footed, won the ball first but studs were kept down and he went straight through the player. Shall we say it was a strikers tackle.
However, last ten minutes, on the edge of their box. Jrod was tackled which looked worse to me. Then Barnes
was shoved in mid air by last man, for me was a clear goal scoring opportunity. Neither were penalised!
-
Good win, as others have said, at a canter.
Another side that has worked out that to keep Barnes quiet you put your biggest defender behind him and keep him back to goal.
I thought Tosin was ok, clearly has learned that when in doubt hoof it! HRK was fine for me, held the ball up but is selfish when he should pass and passes when he should have a go. 2 good finishes for JRod, didn't think he was getting up after that tackle on the edge of their box. Barry again MOTM, simply class and allows Jake to push on.
-
Happy with the 3 points. Barry outstanding, although I thought he overplayed some balls at the end of the second half. Really happy with the centre-backs and Johnstone in goal. J-Rod worked really hard and took his two goals really well. Some days you just have to grind out a win and as we don't do that very often, it is pleasing when we do.
However, we must get a RB as soon as the window is open. Tosin is pretty much filling in with 5/10 performances most games. It's obvious teams are targetting him and there were some sloppy free kicks given away in the first half especially.
All in all, happy with the boxing day points.

Did Hegazi pick up a knock?
He was playing up front the last couple of minutes and walked off quite slowly

Yes he was down at a goal kick or throw-in towards the end - was stretching his calf.

So he wasn't in control and used excessive force? That's a red isn't it?
The push on Barnes looked soft from where I was in the East Stand. Yes there was contact, but throwing the hands up in the air made it less likely the foul would be given.
I'm struggling to remember what happened to Jay, but I remember him being down.

Jay Rodriguez got absolutely clattered on the edge of the Wigan box. Looked a dreadful challenge
-
Enjoyed today but performance wise we never got out of 2nd gear!
Barry was absolutely class today!
J-Rods header and belter were worth the entrance money alone

It was a terrible challenge!

As I said it was a strikers tackle, red would of been harsh.
You don't need to push someone much when they are off the ground, it was a good shove and he Barns would of been 1 on 1 after he bought that ball under control. Unbelievable the lines man missed it.
The worst for me was the two footed tackle on J Rod on the edge of their box.

We now have the most points we've ever had at this stage of the Championship season... ;D
Well we have now EQUALED the most points we've ever had at this stage of the Championship season :)
after 24 games of the Championship
45 points 2009-10
45 points 2018-19
also after 24 games of the First Division (2nd tier)
45 points 2003-04
BTW after 25 matches the most points we have had is 27....
-
Didn't think we'd get a second after Gayle went off, as I don't think we had any dangerous shots first half. Then absolutely cracking second goal from JRod, but it does worry me not having Gayle available. HRK has no pace whatsoever, always wants to stop and turn the play backwards because of it. He also seemed to miss a sitter fom close range. Barry another class performance and also managed to last 90 minutes. Good all round performance by the defence.
-
Whilst Gayle is out, I think we are going to have to use Sako down the middle to add some pace. Yes HRK could do a job for 60mins but we need options from the bench. We are not going to be able to really stretch teams with lacking pace.

Unluckiest team ever? We've got an 18 point deduction between the 24th and 25th game of a second tier season 3 times? Incredible stat mate. :-X

Any news on Gayle?

something awry there, least points maybe ??

48 hours before we will know apparently

Which will mean he's almost certainly out for Saturday. I wouldn't have been as concerned had the Robson-Kanu that had been playing since the Leeds game turned up yesterday but I thought he was dreadful.

Maybe he meant in the Prem???
-
I thought he had a typo and meant our best total after 25 games is 47 points.

Yeah I assumed this, win the next one and we have an outright new record for Albion.

one good game is all he's shown since his been here should of scored yesterday and what was he doing in center forward position.?
-
As an aside I thought Hegazi came in for some very rough treatment both on and off the ball yesterday. He did well not to react on several occasions. The 'ref' had an absolute 'mare of a game in the face of some very Macari like cynicism and off the ball foul play and brinkmanship. Extremely naive performance.
