A genuine question. If the season started and we had this squad where would we finish? I reckon around 12th?

He is very poor every day, if we rely on him this season god help us.

Leko
Burke
Nyom
Bartley
Townsend

None of them good enough unfortunately

4-5-1 second half and better. Livermore, Harper, Nyom, Gibbs, Phillips, Burke going off has seen a difference. Krovinovic, Brunt and Field look way better in midfield. Townsend looks OK at left back and Nathan Ferguson is certainly no worse than Nyom at RB.

We look better but without really threatening.

We've looked slightly better 2nd half, but still not causing much danger. I like Krovinovic. He moves the ball forwards without faffing around too much.

Hard to make a case for as high as 12th. We would be battling at the wrong en if the table with the squad as it is.

I would say we need 5 first team additions (not squad). Then add 3-4 capable squad players, that seems a lot of business in 3 weeks.

That’s valid, I’m sat here in Canada, the sun’s out and the beverages, was feeling optimistic. Maybe 16-18th?

I think some over estimate our squad currently, conversely I think many overestimate the rest of the table. We'd make mid table certainly over 40 something games.

you make it sound like it's a dedicated action... the answer is who ever is the one shooting at goal at any given time.

UPfront was woeful. Missing Gayle and J-ROd big time. Need 2 quality strikers to replace them.

Better second half, much more even.

Slaven will have learned a lot today. It's all very well watching players in training but you can only really judge from match situations.

First lesson bin 4-4-2. No, nay, never, it's awful in the modern game.

Second lesson sort out the midfield. I would like someone, anyone anywhere in the world to tell me what Jake Livermore does to warrant his constant inclusion. PLEASE someone tell me. Harper isn't much better, Leko is pooh.
Field, Brunt, Krovinovic that's our best three.

Defence - We have Hegazi to come back thankfully. Nyom not good enough, Bartley neither. O'Shea looked better second half when he had an option on the ball. First half just hoof up to Burke to flick on to nobody.

Upfront. It not easy to judge forwards when you they have nothing to work with like Burke and Phillips first half. Robson Kanu isn't the answer.

We need new signings but we all know that. Interesting, there was no sign of 4-3-3.

It's the first friendly, with a weak squad, in very warm and very humid weather. It is not a match to dwell on . If we still have the same squad on 3rd August to go to Forest we will probably lose. We all know however, that it will not be like that. Even if it is it is not the end of the world,

Yes it's a first friendly, far far too early to make any judgments about who's rubbish and who's best where....and formations. Two weeks time is when hopefully it should be taking shape with one or two signings by then. Realistically we'll be getting at least 3 on loan in the final week of the window.

I'll stick my neck out and say.... fact finding.

Bilic must have learnt more from this friendly than anything to date. I just hope he isn't thinking 'where's that exit door?'

No need for such negativity.

First friendly, all about fitness levels! We WILL have a very different team when the transfer window closes!!

Also, lets not forget that Villarreal are a decent team!

We are toothless up top and need 2 strikers in.
Hopefully billic realises Livermore offers nothing and is last choice cm

Fully agree.. Yes its a friendly but no goals in that team at all.. Think we need 3 strikers, cant behaving kanu 3rd choice again...biggest signing for me is a midfielder who is all round but also a proper captain.. Bilic really needs to get things moving and start stamping the changes into his new team

All of that, Beechy. and I agree with Jonny and Telford too, Villareal good team and more importantly we WILL have a different team by start of season. Still quietly confident (though to be fair I am on the Jameson's now....)
