Maybe posting a few hours too early. But should Brentford overcome Swansea City today, this game will have to be moved for their Cup Quarter final. So best to wait a few hours before booking trains etc.

Edit: No need to worry about the scenario any more.

Does anyone know how many away season ticket holders do we have?
This fixture is top of my list for the season as it's the only ground in this year's Championship that I've not been to.
They're on general sale already for home supporters, but I really, really don't want to go down that route.

HSTHs with sufficient loyalty points need to get in ASAP.

These are selling very quickly.

11 seats and 558 terrace spots remaining according to the site plan.

if anybody has any spares i will happily have them.

A handful of seated tickets have popped back up in Block 401 for those who are as short as me and would struggle seeing anything other than everyone’s backs in the terrace stand.

Buying an AST to get first pick of the bunch was the best thing I ever did...

Sure they used to be about £120 up front and then £5 off every ticket, not sure now.

Never bothered with one personally, as never not got a ticket for a game. Only exception was exeter last season but even then me and two mates got tickets in the exeter end

Fair enough, Would certainly have helped me with this game that's for sure, wanted to tick Griffin park off the visit list. Can only but hope it gets to Monday with some still on sale and them releasing to the rest of HST Holders - looks fairly unlikely though

Should be able to no problem mate, I have returned tickets a couple of times and its not been a problem. You do physically have to take it back though.

I only did this year because of now living and working in London AND knowing if I didn’t then I’d be screwed trying to get the likes of Villa, Blues, Millwall etc. and (potentially now even more importantly) the last game of the season which by fluke turns out to be Derby. It has meant zero panic or worry about getting a ticket (Dad still has a HST and I’ve also got membership) and it also means if we make the play offs, I’m laughing with sorting a ticket for those too.

Worth the £150 for me easily.

Sorry pal - only just seen this. But as others have said, they're £150 which gives you £5 off every away ticket you then buy.

Completely worth it for me now I can’t realistically get a HST working shifts in London and a season in the Championship with a whole number of new stadiums I had yet to visit.

I tried and it was even more then virgin. In the end I paid £30 return to get the slow train to London but the fast Virgin (1 hour 23) one back so I cant complain as the train there me and my brother will enjoy a beer or 6 so there's no rush. I get to London at 12.16 so I will be able to catch two 3rds of Leeds Vs Sheffield United near Euston before making my way to the stadium.

Title: Team
Post by: Mister AT on March 13, 2019, 11:02:39 PM
I would probably go with the same team that started today, with the exception of Kanu for Murphy ( if Phillips isn’t available).

If Dawson is injured then Tosin/Bartley to come in. I would keep Gibbs rested until after the international break, Townsend looks solid enough to do a job.
Title: Re: Team
Post by: Dan87uk on March 13, 2019, 11:47:51 PM
Dawson and Holgate went off injured, Gibbs confirmed out until the international break so will likely be a back 4 of Mears, Bartley, Hegazi, Townsend (unless he wants to slot Brunt at LB)

not sure if Tosin will get a look in after being thrown under the bus against Leeds and Sheff U

Title: Re: Team

I expect we will remain at 4-5-1 given that Brentford are strong at home and play the type of football they play. I would make a couple of changes though subject to availability. We need a proper defensive option in midfield so Barry or Field should be in the team to do that job. Livermore just doesn't justify a place at all for me so I'd replace him with Johansen and I'd play Brunt on the right hand side, he has the ability to find Gayle or find Rodriguez with diagonal balls. I'm presuming Phillips won't be available, even if he is I'd leave him out and give him time to get over these recurring problems properly:

                                  Johnstone

Holgate           Dawson                   Hegazi             Townsend

                                  Barry
                      Harper                     Johansen
Brunt                                                                   Rodriguez

                                  Gayle

Subs: Bond, Mears, Bartley, Field, Livermore, Robson-Kanu, Murphy

There must be doubts regarding the availability of Holgate, Dawson and Barry. If not available replace them with Mears, Bartley and Field.
Title: Re: Team
Post by: NJS on March 15, 2019, 09:43:43 AM
I can see the point of 4-5-1 but we have no target CF so I would go 4-4-2.  Otherwise long balls out of defence just come straight back unless they go to the wing..
I would put Brunt at LB as he has experience there and would be available for free kicks; I'm not at all convinced about Townsend's defensive capabilities.
We need to get some legs in our midfield somehow so I would only ever start one out of Barry, Brunt and Livermore there then maybe swap one of them in when the guy who starts gets tired..
Time to give Morgan a run-out?

Come to think of it I seem to remember Brunty setting up a goal from wide right at Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the season. No reason why he can't play that position, sometimes having a leftie on the right can work.

I'd be tempted to bring Field in for Harper, but I also don't like changing a winning team.

Johnstone
Holgate
Dawson
Hegazi
Townsend
Livermore
Brunt
Field
Murphy
Gayle
Rodriguez

Gayle desperately needs a goal, as he has generally been a passenger since returning from suspension.

As good as he played mid week I'm not sure Brunt will have the legs for a game 3 days later. I'd be looking about 60 minutes max before changing him.
We really don't have much talent in midfield anymore.

Personally I think he had an ok game on Wednesday and as I stated I don't really like changing a winning team. The only exception was Field in for Harper. Harper no doubt has quality, but for the past few games he's been very lethargic and has been extremely slow to react to almost every situation.

Only dab in the Black Country so WM don’t bother with the Albion when we are away
Title: Re: In Game Chat
Post by: 17GD on March 16, 2019, 03:15:49 PM
We were largely 4-5-1 on Wednesday when out of possession with a flat 5. I think 4-1-4-1 should be better for us because I thought at times we were exploited in between our defence and midfield.

4-5-1 then.

So irritating when people try to be sound clever with formations just because one player may play a yard deeper than another. Not you Frank just talking generally.

Just cant seem to get the right personal for those 3 in the middle, No matter the combo it always seems disjointed/soft. Brunt as the main DM scares me to no end. But Brentford was always going to dominate the ball.

Tough game with the weather playing it's part. Still 0-0 though. Shame we haven't took advantage of our set-pieces.

I agree. The past week has been a little bitter sweet in terms of results. Two wins, 4 goals and two clean sheets - obviously we won't walk the league/play-offs but I think a lot of us have been saying our team is better than the results we were getting for some time.

Well done Edwards too, fantastic goal and a clear talent - we have some great kids at the moment.

Good professional performance and a great result. Brentford have been very good at home and it's not an easy place to pick up points from either. It's amazing how much better we look defensively. I thought Hegazi was class today. All we need to do now is get a manager in over the international break and make that final push. I don't think we'll get automatic promotion anymore but it'd be good to finish the season unbeaten!

He's had to go extremely negative to get these 2 results, the fans wouldn't have stood for this football all season. I've no qualms with the decision to sack him but these 2 results aren't a pointer to how well or badly he was doing.

Stream was terrible so not got much comment, Gayle unucky with a couple of freekicks, Edwards with an excellent goal, Johnstone with a decent save from their free kick.

Let's get Jokanovic in now and push on to the play-offs.

I wouldn't call a 3-0 win 'negative'...nor would I call 4 goals in two matches negative. If anything against Swansea we were too open at times.

Great result. Let's be real though, we haven't played particularly well in either of the 2 games, and have been exceptionally lucky / keeper on form to have 2 clean sheets.

It's no fault of Shan's, but this is still the same team struggling through football matches in my opinion. Great credit to him for playing Edwards and for guiding us to 2 wins though, not a huge amount he can do in such a short space of time.

There have been quite a few games this season where we've won on account of the opposition forwards having a nightmare, and then people claim we are 'solid'.

Still though, Rome wasn't built in a day. Good job everyone and a great win - thrilled for Edwards

I don't like those sort of tactics at home but given Swansea's passing stats and it was the first game since Moore and Jones left just a few days earlier I can understand why Shan set us up that way.

At Brentford today given their home form I think he got it tactically spot on.

It will be interesting to see where we go from here.

At this stage of the season the style isn't as important it's about the points. Shame Leeds and Sheffield didn't need draw and Norwich only just scraped past Rotherham. Think top spot is well and truly gone we could possibly still knock second.

3
Points a win. Great goal by Edwards who looks a very handy player who needs a whole season at this level playing regularly to maintain his development. Hats of to Shan who all has been pretty negative with his set up  hasn't been afraid to chop and change it. Anybody who drops Livermore  is always off to a good start in my books.

Onwards and upwards huge derby coming up just as blues have lost their form we need to capitalise

Only thing that matters is the points. You can’t draw any longer term conclusions from this game. And there is no long term at the moment, so all we can do is try and stay in it by winning.

Moving Gayle centrally has done nothing for me. Hopefully he will click but JRod looks better in the centre.

Looking at Sheffield United and Leeds fixtures you can't see them dropping 7 more points than we do. They both looked very good earlier.

Full credit to Shan for his work and the results this week. Now use the time we have to land a permanent manager. This lad Edwards looks useful, not just the goal. Goalkeeper did very well again today too.

I'm afraid the last two games show why Big Dave had to go, Shan has shown more tactical ability in two games than Big Dave has shown since Christmas.
Agreed, for me Moore and Jones have cost us automatic with their stubbornness to change failed tactics

As said, all we can do is keep winning and hope others slip up, form can change quickly, I think Norwich are up now, but Leeds and Sheffield Utd are still catchable if they slip up.

I agree, but I would also add that I could see us easily drawing the Swansea game under Moore. It was a bit of a Moore-type performance in terms of defensive leaks but at least we didn't invite pressure on ourselves by stupid passing - so Shan has that going for him so far.

Just on way back on coach
. It was very windy and not conducive to good football but we played better than on Wednesday. From the moment Kyle scored his wonderful goal we were very good at seeing out the game. Just remember Brentford had won 6 consecutive home games - great win

Shan has already shown more tactical nous in 2 games than Moore did in most of his, and Shan should be nowhere near the running for this job, already looking like the right decision although I'm not surprised in the slightest. Great to see Edwards get a goal.

Side note, Villa looking good for the play offs under the head coach that should have been leading us to the title, again I'm not surprised.

Clueless Deano, who can't buy a win without his £40 million midfielder? They're in a purple patch of 4 games. It's not even in their own hands. Got them down for an 8th place finish.

Good up-and-coming head coach who actually understands how to implement an attacking style of play at this level and has proven it at 2 clubs with vastly different resources. Put the master of negativity Pulis to the sword today with ease, something Moore proved to be utterly incapable of.

We had it narrowed down to 2 candidates who both wanted the job in the summer, it was an absolute joke which one they went with.

Really, because without Grealish he's been running at a point a game, with no cohesive plan, nor was he able to work out how to cope without Jack, Vilers calling for his head. This is with arguably the other best striker in the league. Moore has worked wonders compared to what Smith has done at Villa.

Really enjoyed that!
What a fantastic goal from Edwards.
I was impressed the way we closed down the game in the last 20 minutes - they barely got out their half.
I think that might be the smallest ground I have ever been to - 11,000 capacity.

Decent enough game considering the weather conditions, Brentford had a few spells but never really threatened too much. Shame Jeanvier let them down at the end spitting at the fans. I hope he gets the ban he deserves

Edwards has been at the club since he was 6 years old.
He's 21 now.
I can only imagine all the hard work and determination that's got him to where he is now.
To score on his first start in the seniors must have been a dream come true.

Good win, great goal and delighted to see Edwards has just won goal of the day on Sky

Defended well in the main, full backs especially Townsend needed more help as Brentford used their wide players well. Midfield struggled at times, need legs in there.

Pleased for Shan with the 2 wins but personally i'd like to see a permanent man in there asap which gives him 2 weeks to work with the players given hardly any are away on international duty

If we had got him in the summer he would only have jumped ship when Bruce got the push the Villa scumball.

Great win against a team who haven't lost at home since early december. A great solo goal from Edwards hopefully the first of many. Special mention to fans who chucked in for the banner aimed at Durham 👌 a great away day.

Thought we were pretty poor in 1st half but we improved in the second half when the midfield got to grips with the game.
Defensively we looked a bit shaky at times and I thought Holgate was poor all game but both he and Townsend were left exposed at times, at other times Holgate kept drifting in and leaving Edwards with 2 wide players to try and close down.

I'm not sure what's up with Gayle but yet again he looked well off the pace, maybe the early clash that left him with a blooded nose impacted on him. Unless he scores he offers next to nothing.

Thought Brunt and Morrison played well and kept things ticking over nicely and really pleased for Edwards getting his goal, great control and finish. Shame we couldn't get a second (that wasn't offside!) but after 80 minutes we saw the game out well.

For me the only real difference between Shan and Moore/Jones is that we don't needlessly pass it around the back every time and the defenders and keeper look happier about it.

Agree, but that is a big difference when you have a midfield that lacks mobility, it means the whole midfield sits deeper to receive a pass from defence or more often than not, get back shape when we lose possession in a dangerous area, this was my issue with Big Dave's honourable desire to play the beautiful game, if your personnel are limited by years of playing in a different style, then change has to occur in more considered way, his refusal or reluctance to see that pretty obvious problem meant his credibility was fast disappearing with the players, some fans and the board, I actually applaud the board for acting promptly.

Great win - happy with the performance.

Noticeable to see that the passing around from the back has been ditched and far more emphasis on winning the second ball further up the pitch.

I thought Kyle Edwards had a superb game and his confidence certainly grew following the goal.

Special mention to the away end who were excellent throughout the second half - almost felt like a party atmosphere. Terracing really is fantastic and such a shame that it is a thing of the past.

Seems to have been "vintage player songs" day as well with the chanting that was going on.

Yep, ball came over towards the end of the game, he misjudged it and got some jeers and a bit of stick, nothing major, he then spat towards our fans, I have seen that it hit a couple. Blokes a disgrace, stewards saw it as there was a bunch of them right there.

What do you reckon his punishment should be? If one of our players did that, I'd be absolutely disgusted.

Hard to say, if he gets anything it will be a token fine. He should get whatever he would get if he spat at another player or as it was at a member of the public then whatever he would get for doing it in the street at someone.
