Initial 1600 of which we have sold about 1100 I think so far. Really gone down the pan.

We have 11 tickets remaining from blocks 39 and 40 (the original 1600 allocation). Not as poor as the 1100 suggestions but still pretty bad. Hopefully they give us block 38 so we can sell a few more.

Ye it's toss.

I can't say anything though. I do 90% off the away but giving this one a miss as I'm getting bored of it all, Pulis primarily. Most aways now are just a knees up, but Stokes a terrible away.

Going to see Annie Mac at Rainbow instead

It'll be tough this, and a lot depends on their result today because if they lost, desperation will set in but I can see either a 1-1 or 2-1 to us in this. Let's hope we can keep up some momentum.
Title: Re: Pre Match Chat
Post by: Aussie Baggie on September 18, 2016, 01:00:51 PM
The West Ham result was great but as we all know they defended like an under 12s side. Stoke won't be that bad.

It'll be interesting to see how TP sets up, in prior away games he'd pick a defensive lineup and go for the point. With some new found spark courtesy of Nacer Chadli, there's a chance now we could start raising a few eyebrows. I haven't seen many highlights of the game but gee Rondon and Chadli worked well together and their combination is lethal.

If we can keep up this form, defend better and not get the Wobblies if we're in front, no reason we can't get the three points on Saturday.

I actually think this game will be tough because surely the Stoke Players will be fighting for their lives to save Mark Hughes.

Maybe TP will use that to his advantage and expect Stoke to be extra aggressive and go on the counter to nick 2 goals.
Title: Re: Pre Match Chat
Post by: crazedwbafan18 on September 18, 2016, 04:11:41 PM
Also a bit of a bugger that Stoke grabbed a consolation right at the end, a glimmer of hope we didn't need. It'll be a very tight game in all honest, most likely a draw.

Pulis is going to want a win at stoke so play the same as against west ham and no reason we can't . Hughes under massive pressure now get couple goals crowd will turn .
Title: Re: Pre Match Chat
Post by: zac on September 18, 2016, 08:06:04 PM
They're in meltdown at the moment. If we can get 1-0 up the crowd will turn against them and it's only going to help us. Feeling quietly confident...
Title: Re: Pre Match Chat
Post by: DivinePast on September 19, 2016, 02:11:01 AM
Conventional wisdom says West Brom should be the aggressor in the 1st half knowing the first goal will get the crowd angry but it's clear that's not always Tony's style.

I'll imagine he might give it a go for the first 7 or so minutes and then drop back predicting Stoke will be too aggressive going for the win that it leaves holes in the defense.
Title: Re: Pre Match Chat
Post by: tuamigos on September 19, 2016, 06:28:53 AM
I think its also Pulis' 1000th game in club management.
Nice way to mark it with a win but settle for a point up there.
Title: Re: Pre Match Chat
Post by: B_H_Baggie on September 19, 2016, 09:23:49 AM
We have to turn the home crowd as soon as possible and that means not allowing them to score first, hopefully we stick with Chadli in a central role behind Rondon and don't ship him out wide left like at Bournemouth. They look extremely vulnerable from set plays so that's something we need to take advantage of.
Title: Re: Pre Match Chat
Post by: Mister AT on September 19, 2016, 09:42:13 AM
the first 15-20 mins in this game will be massive.

If we can start positive it will make Stoke nervous, and the fans will be restless, if they start will they might sense they can win.

I think we will go there to be well set up and organised and to try nick a goal on the break/set piece.

Could the manager sacking curse strike again if we were to win?
Title: Re: Pre Match Chat

We have to go out and really put them under pressure. They've got to be low on confidence and Hughes under huge pressure.

Only change for me would be Nyom to replace Galloway were was dire

The tickets have been on sale for a month already, general sale for 20 days. We've managed to sell the initial allocation 5 days before the game.
At most we would sell 100 tickets more this week so can see why the club wouldn't request for more tickets.

I think we would have sold a lot more than that this week on the back of the win on Saturday. I think we could have easily hit the 2,000 had we been given the opportunity.

Massive chance of a win for us here if we approach it looking to get a win. Their fans will be quick to turn following recent results, an early goal for us could be decisive.

Same side as started against West Ham, would give Galloway chance to learn from the mistakes made for now.

Start the same side

I remember in late 90's into the early noughties, given our abysmal record, fixtures at the Britannia were generally end fillers.  I think the last time were given the whole end and sold out was 03-04 season.  The original game part way through the season was called off before kick off due to high winds.  I think we lost the rearranged towards the end of the season after promotion was confirmed 4-1 or something.

Both years under Mowbray in the championship we were given the whole stand and sold out, just shows how much our support is declining. Don't agree with people on social media bashing the club about it either, surely a cut off point to where they will purchase anothe batch and it's not going to be 6 days before when we have only just sold these. pooh support

Don't wanna speak too soon but Pulis does seem to have the upper hand when we play Stoke. That added to their terrible form and I really think we should win.

Given the result got to go with the same attacking players but I think Nyom will come in for Galloway. I would agree with dropping Galloway but wouldn't know who to pick instead, still seem to have a problem at left back.

You'll be in for a surprise then! In the calendar year Stoke have conceded more goals than Aston Villa. That has finally set the alarm bells ringing.

I think it's just 5 wins since losing the cup semi final in January. The bad form has been there for a long time now so the excuses are running out.

They actually seem quite confident that they will get the win on Saturday, probably owing to their record against us, bar the last few meetings. Actually, we have won 2 and drawn 3 of our last six meetings there I think? I'll never forget that dorrans winner though in 2012, that was very special indeed. I think another draw in this one though, stoke will be desperate not to lose and we won't have enough about us to win, 1-1.

I just hope we can maintain and extend the momentum we started last Saturday and don't take the foot off the gas. We had this mini false dawn a couple of seasons back didn't we, positive, attacking home performances against Swansea (2-0) during the week then West Ham in the cup on the Saturday (4-0) when we really thought we might have turned the corner and then followed it up true Pulis style with a 0-0, no shots, bore draw at Sunderland. I know a draw at Stoke won't necessarily be the end of the world but if that was to be the outcome, please make it a POSITIVE draw with a performance that suggests we actually want to win the game.

We scored 4 last week! Bad defending playeed a part but it wasn't the sole reason we got 4.If we show the same intent to get forward quickly then we can win this. We've not lost to these under Pulis and I expect that to continue this week.
I think Pulis will want to win for 2 reasons (apart from the obvious one) firstly it's his 1000th game and secondly it's against Mark Hughes. They seem to have a mutual dislike since Hughes was quite denigrating about Pulis' achievements when he took over.

If anyone watched Stoke Palace last week, you'd have noticed how poor Given was in goal for them in terms of coming for any balls into the box.

I'd be stunned if we didn't start the same team (with the exception of maybe Galloway) and really focus on getting Mclean Chadli and Phillips to try and win free kicks around the box.

If we get set pieces we'll score a few if Given starts again.

That being said, every time we come up against a team in a dire run of form we seem to have a habit of rolling over for them, so I fully expect that to continue!

Fair points made, but we are away from home this time and I just know that its a big ask for us to exceed our one goal a game quota. That would be Pulis all over, and completely ridiculous. I wouldn't put it past him.

McClean had his best game in an Albion shirt and it's evident Chadli belongs in the middle.

I agree but when you look at their team sheet- Bony, Shaqiri, Bojan, Allen, Shawcross.  There's a great deal of quality there.  I would have been delighted with at least 8 of their first team joining Albion.   They are awful at the moment but they have the quality to hurt us.  I'd take a point now.

I have heard Galloway is unwell not dropped.

A very convenient virus for him and Saido apparently, on Galloway he has somehow managed to find himself 3rd in the pecking order at left back (Brunt will be back in due course) despite being gifted the shirt at the start of the season...

Not to bad a half can see us taking all 3 points today.

Could go either way for me, we just need someone to take authority in attack - a few times we've had half-chances and not capitalised, hopefully Rondon or Chadli can be more ruthless.
P.s. I've been quite pleased with Nyom both in attack and defence. I reckon he will become our main left-back if it continues like this.

Did ok, didn't feel like Stoke had much threat to be honest - apart from the clearance off the line I can't remember Foster having to make too many saves to make.  Thought Nyom was slow out to Shakiri for their goal and we should have done better with the second ball.

We struggled getting the ball forward more than we did against West Ham, we couldn't get anything to stick so had nothing to build on.   Once again too many little mistakes that causes our play to break down.  Misplaced pass here, poor control there.

Happy with the point.
Title: Re: After Match Debate

Ill be honest I think that was a decent enough game

Not unhappy with that at all

didnt create much but ill put that down to Stoke closing down quickly which they did well and all game

Shaquiri you can see has quality but Nyom seemed to give him all the time in the world and kept seeing him onto his best foot, that said i thought Nyom did well at times.

Morrison made the difference when he came on for us, forward passes and forcing Stoke to defend

Thought we gave them the goal and should have cleared the ball before Allen got his shot off.

I'm happy with that

Agree with that, not a bad performance at all - unlike the Bournemouth game we did have a few good chances after conceding. Fantastic take from Rondon and delighted for Leko with the assist.

It was great to see Hughes's face after the equaliser  ;D

never a Morrison fan but he made a difference when he came on.

Seems that consistent fouling and diving gets you more than honest play. Wish somebody would put that little push and dive cheat Allen out of his misery. They closed down well but if we had done it the same way as they did we would have finished with half a team on the pitch.  Did the assistant in our half ever give anything against them?

Title: Re: After Match Debate
Post by: TheJacko2000 on September 24, 2016, 05:07:08 PM
Stoke probably shaded it and Joe Allen really showed up the leggy Darren Fletcher who is becoming a liability, that said we looked solid as ever, never gave up and in Salomon Rondon have got a hell of a striker.

Always a good point at the Shittania, onto the next.

Poor second half , too much lumping forward and miss placed passing.
That said im pleased we didnt lose and i know we can play better than that , Nyom got caught for the goal and i thought Chadli over cooked things at times.
Fletcher was well off the pace again and I'm worried by his decline , wonder if times come.
What would we do without Rondon? , if only he had more service.
After years of Stoke taunting us I enjoy every point!

Decent point, Foster actually had very little to do, Rondon loves those near post headers, I thought it was a decent enough game, not a lot ran for us, strangely Grant had more to do as a keeper than Foster.
Title: Re: After Match Debate

First half was OK but second we reverted to type. Central midfield is our biggest problem. Why we decided not to go for Camacho I've no idea. Fletcher is a spent force. A bit more quality is needed in the final third. A point away from home especially with a late goal is a decent result. Rondon's header was superb.

90+2 min and we get a free kick in stokes half, we commit nobody in the box and play a hopeful ball down the side-line that comes to nothing. that's Pulis all over and the reason I don't want him as our manager.
other than that its a point not that I think we deserved it and how can you misplace so many passes?

Yeah Hughes played two dedicated defensive midfielders out of desperation. Cameron has played over 90% of his games in the back four since joining. He helped out Whelan a lot, which then allowed Allen more freedom. Was always going to be a tight game.

Its not Fletcher its not Yacob thats the problem its the pairing,both/either need a more dynamic or forward thinking paler alon side them somebody along the Kouyate lines

I sort of agree, we need a linking midfielder, Morrison fit and firing would help them both out.

Never hides, takes the ball in difficult situations leader on the pitch, does okay for me.
I agree he's a battler and was a great signing at the time, last season he was good too. But for me he's consistently been our worst player this season and has struggled. Today for instance when 1-0 down in the 90th minute he blasted a simple pass off Leko's shin in a good position which was very poor.

For me I'd be happy if he was dropped to the bench and started the odd game due to injuries/suspension but no more than that. He's certainly not finished just yet - but doesn't offer the options he used to.

We are not good enough in 2nd half but I'm pleased that we get a point at last.

I agree Fletcher needs dropping for Morrison/Field and investment into a dynamic box to box midfielder needed. Unless Field shows he can do it.

Been saying this for weeks now.

Stick Morrison in for Fletcher to start.

The late equaliser made it an enjoyable trip in the end - to have the last laugh against the smug Stokies who thought they had done us.

First half was pretty even with neither side looking a threat apart from the header that Dawson brilliantly saved on the line.

Second half we disappointingly reverted to type and seemed happy to just soak up pressure. Stoke huffed and puffed but showed so little quality up front until just the sheer weight of possession gifted them a simple chance in the box. Annoyingly we then woke up and had a go - their defence is so poor that it was criminal we didn't try and put some serious pressure on them. Our lack of quality was really apparent going forward today though it took a brilliant save from McClean to stop us equalising earlier.

Defensively, we were comfortable but Phillips seems to be playing well within himself and makes some really poor decisions. Nyom did ok and liked to power forward however, like most of our attacking play today, made poor quality decisions in the final quarter.

Good to see Leko get an assist and Morrison added some drive when he came on.

That was a nice point, undeserved  but I'll take it!

I'd say overall a deserved point - were you there ?

What makes it an undeserved point ?  What did Stoke do ?

Laughable on the Oatcake Board :

"We should have won on the balance of play, but we're still woeful in the final 3rd!!!
A 3-0 scoreline wouldn't have flattered us....!!!"

Where did they have three such chances and where did we not have three good chances ??????

Draw about right against these bitter twisted fools.

I'm not overly impressed with Phillips if I'm honest.

1st half I felt was even, 2nd Half I felt Stoke where the better side. I felt we were fortunate to get the goal late but I'll take it!

I saw signs of improvement in him today as like you I haven't been overly impressed with him either but some of his runs today showed what he is capable of.

It will take him time to settle in to us but I think he will come good for us

Fletcher is okay, no coincidence that Claudio is playing some of his best stuff since Fletcher arrived.

Yet another massive game for Claudio he is one of the best DM in the prem for his breaking up of the game a little more pace & he would be playing in a top 3 side.

So bloody negative, my 30 year old son and his mate went and both reported that Stoke did very little to trouble us, that we could quite easily have won, but most definately deserved a point.

Happy with the point, don't think either team did enough to win a premierleague match. 1600 to stoke though , urine poor! I'd expect us to take that many if we were bottom of league 2.

Any Stoke point is a good point.

Rondon won't be here next season, bloke is terrific. Congratulations on 1000 TP. Don't like you but have total respect for your achievements.

Most of what I wanted to say has already been said. First half was even, second half was Stokes but a draw was the fair result. A pretty typical Pulis away performance.

I was very disappointed that we didn't try and get our front players running at Shawcross after his early booking. Pieters should have been booked for his dive in the first half too.

Thought Evans was dreadful for the first 10 mins or so; constantly gave the ball away, thankfully he got better as the game went on. Could have done better for the goal though but then so could Nyom (who should have closed Shaqiri down) and Phillips and Fletcher as Allen just strolled past the pair of them in the build up leaving him unmarked to score.

We deserved a point.

Wasn't a bad performance overall - pretty much what we have come to expect. Introduction of Morrison was important however has he drove at Stoke and always looked to pass forward. Times after we went behind where we move the ball far too slow - that needs to improve.

Some solid performances all round.

We went for a draw and we got it is about all you can say on that match. Would have liked to have seen is go for the jugular against a team under immense pressure in front of a home crowd who would have turned if we'd put them under pressure, but you knew it wasn't coming sadly.

Morrison in for Fletcher next week should happen but it won't. Fletcher probably our worst player summed up by that pass to Leko. Don't agree that he always offers for the ball, Morrison came on and picked it up off the defence almost every time.

Still at problem at LB, I think you can tell that's not Nyom's natural position.

Philips needs to do a little bit more, and the he needs time to settle in argument doesn't wash with me, look at Chadli.

Overall not bad and with some tweaks we could be a good side.

I'd have taken a point before and am ultimately happy with getting one. Stoke are not imo going to remain in the league position they are in and have some very dangerous attacking players, add that to our record up there and a point is always a welcome one.

Pulis picked the correct 11, i think Nyom would've started regardless, and again got his substitutions bang on.

A good, solid start to the season. We now need to get at least a point at Sunderland which takes us into a rather nasty run of games.

Agreed. I'm no fan of Pulis, but he did that game well. Keeping Evans, Chadli & Rondon in the middle is key. Replacing Fletcher with Mozza would be a good move mind. But TP loves Fletcher
