West Bromwich Albion FC / Who will be sold and who will be left?!
« on: April 10, 2023, 05:36:03 PM »
Firstly, we have Kipre, Mowatt, Taylor and Kelly all back as well as Ashworth and Castro.

I can see up cashing in on Swift, Wallace, O’Shea, Okay, Grant and one of BTA/Dike I’ll say BTA.

With some players leaving too I think our team will look like this, can’t format formations.

Palmer

Furlong
Kipre
Ajayi
Townsend

Molumby
TGH
Mowatt

Diangana
Dike
Phillips

Then left as squad depth with…

Griffiths, Kelly, Bartley, Taylor, Chalobah, Reach, Castro, Faal, Malcolm, Cleary, Andrews.

I don’t think we’d be in tatters but there is also the possibility that Mowatt and Kipre will move on so we’d be a few injuries away from wafer thin.

This is of course without incomings.

General Football & Sports / World Cup 2022 Thread
« on: November 21, 2022, 09:04:58 AM »
About time we had one of these really so everything doesn't go in the England thread.

It's cold, wet, windy and it's November with England playing their first game today and it feels very very odd to not be heading to a beer garden or outdoor showing of our KO.

Anyway, 3 games today. England aside, USA v Wales should be pretty good.

Getting a bit bored of CV-19 so thought a WBA 18 in recent history game would be more fun. It's been the best decade supporting WBA in my life.

The rules are - each year must be represented by a player that played in that year. No repeat years. On the bench anything goes so that can be packed with talent! It has to be a team you think will work and doesn't need to be based on what they were like when they played for us but their career.

You can Google "West Brom Squad 20__" to show all players that played in this year. Man, i had forgotten so many of those players that came up in the results!

We could do so much, a loans 11, a forgotten 11, a terrible signings 11!

Foster (2018)

Reid (2014)
Olsson (2011)
G-Mac (2012)
Gibbs (2017)

Yacob (2013)
Sawyers (2019)

Gnabry (2015)
Pereira (2020)
Brunt (2016)

Odemwingie (2010)

Subs: Gera, Lukaku, Krychowiak, Valero, (Harvey) Barnes, Evans, Myhill

I love the idea of the tough back 4, well 3 of them at least. Sawyers and Yacob alongside one another would've been fantastic to see, they literally are opposites. Gnabry, Pereira feeding off Brunt and Sawyers with Odemwingie off the last man...what a team this would be!

No room for some players i've loved; Scharner, Mulumbu, Dorrans, Morrison, Rondon and many others.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Clean sheets/goals conceded
« on: December 03, 2019, 07:10:00 AM »
4 clean sheets in a row away from home, 5 in total and just 5 goals conceded in 10 games. Not a single team has scored more than 1 against us at their home.

Compare that to our home defending...not a single clean sheet, 5 games where teams have scored 2 goals against us and 14 goals conceded - almost 3 times as much as away from home! This is in one fewer games.

So, to go alongside that we've scored more at home. So what do we think the reason is for this incredibly different record! As far as i can tell, we play quite similar, still entertaining and expansive.

General Football & Sports / Jonas Olsson retires
« on: September 20, 2019, 06:45:40 PM »
What i wouldn't give to see a partnership like his and McAauley's in their pomp. Olsson was somewhat of our talisman in our earlier days and i'll always have fond memories of him, particularly his goal and celebration in the famous Wo1ve5 game.

I hate to say it but i like giving it a listen, Charlie Austin is a guest on his latest one though i don't think it's uploaded just yet. I just find that he's a guy that speaks a lot more truth.

Going by previous comments from Dowling, where he said we would be largely using the loan market again, and comments from posters previously known to be ITK; have we had a sudden change of heart of how we're dealing in the market? With Sawyers looking likely tomorrow, that would be 4 permanent signings in a week. You'd have to say we'll probably make 3 more signings (LW, CF, CB). Will they all be loans?

So has our plan been changed?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Gareth Barry retires
« on: August 15, 2017, 09:53:34 AM »
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/08/15/west-brom-closing-evertons-gareth-barry-hope-agree-deal-next/

Think it's about time we finally gave this player his own thread as it looks nearly done. Reading the logic of some fans for this signing I am actually warming to it! Everton fans seem gutted. Strangely, using Hampshirebaggie's logic that it means a younger player doesn't block the path of Harper and Field it's actually a signing with a bigger vision to the future and using the academy, if we think Pulis is committed to bringing those two along...

West Bromwich Albion FC / Struggling to score
« on: April 08, 2017, 05:16:01 PM »
We've now drawn blanks in 5 of our last 6 games and it's three without a goal now. HRK looks better off the bench but Rondon looks lost. With no other options i think we should at least consider Phillips up top. That'll free up spots in the attacking midfield trio for Chadli, McClean and Morrison. Personally i'd put Morrison in for Fletcher but that's not going to happen.

We need to see a change of plan up top because things simply aren't working for us going forward at the moment. I'd like to see Chadli in the 10 role, which does leave Moz on the right but we have very few options.

Also, we've conceded 9 in these 6 games, Yacob has been benched for 5 of these 6 games...

Great game earlier between Ghana and South Africa. I love this competition because the teams are so gung ho.

Tomorrow's group D action should be good. All the teams have 2 points going into the final game. 6pm KOs both on Eurosport.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Conceding late goals
« on: October 28, 2014, 10:02:34 PM »
It happened again today, within moments of scoring, and last Monday against Man U. Sunderland. Oxford. Thinking back to the end of lat season, Spurs and Hull spring to mind straight away. Stoke, last game of the season. I could go on. Is it a problem or is this common?

I know one thing, we've scored a few late goals as well.

Not strictly a transfer topic but I didn't really know where to put this. Is he a reliable source?! Seems to have known a fair bit or is he just talking rubbish?! I've seen a few posters say he's a local journo to the midlands. He's tweeted positive things regarding Kalou and Sinclair tonight

General Football & Sports / Match of the Day needs a revamp
« on: March 12, 2013, 12:22:46 PM »
I was going to post a reply in the Swansea match thread but then i think it's something that's an issue every week. Not just as a West Brom fan finding it unenjoyable but a football fan in general.

They need for one to cut out the banter. Shearer, Lawrensen, and maybe even Hansen need to be replaced. They  need to cut out the nonsence analysis of Shearer saying what he sees and get somebody like Lee Dixon back. Gary Linekar, get rid, just have him presenting live games or something.

What would i do, could be controversial and will almost likely never happen but i'd go for Keys and Gray and maybe poach a pundit from ITV.

Cut out how much time they interview managers/players and use that time for a more balanced highlights package and better post match analysis.

Being realistic, i could cope with Linekar staying but it'd be better if they employed somebody who maybe studies journalism, media and specialises in football. Get back Lee Dixon, then maybe one guest every week who is coming to the end of his career but looking towards e media future like Jason Roberts.

Or Mark Chapman as i enjoy him on 505, works for the BBC already, Lee Dixon and maybe Robbie Savage but tell him to drop the always wanting an arguement kind of attitude.

A list of potential guests who have been on before would be, Savage, Roberts, Steven Reid, Kompany, and maybe some managers now and then.

What would YOUR ideal presenter and pundits be?

I'd go for Keys and Gray, with a guest expert every week.

West Bromwich Albion FC / The back 5 line up we've never lost with
« on: February 26, 2013, 10:26:11 AM »
I keep seeing this fact popping up on various topics that we have never lost with foster, Reid, Macauley, Olsson and Ridgewell. I'd like to know is it one of those manipulated stats where we haven't lost but they've hardly all played together? Or how many games have they all started together?

If this stat stays the same or even just gets 1 or 2 losses to the likes of Chelsea and Man U would you want break something so formidabble up next season for a new right back or to blood Dawson?

I understand Reid is constantly struggling to stay injury free and I think I slightly prefer Popov over Ridgewell but as things currently stand I couldn't justify breaking these up

For me it would have to be Ellie Simmonds or David Weir....

Others coming close has to be Murray and Wiggins.

General Football & Sports / opening ceremony anyone?!

Cant find a topic anywhere.....i missed the first half hour, but, i ave to say i usually hate these but Danny Boyle has done an amazing job so far! This bits a bit dull

I'm going up on saturday for the first time this season and ive set aside a few quid to treat myself and i'm kind of tempted to buy stuff online, tempted by the "Street jacket", and the "Huskey hat" but as i've read it's meant to be pretty cold up country this weekend i'm tempted to order online so ive got these  items for saturday as i need a big old warm hat and fancy wearing a baggies coat to the game. Also, is Paul Scharners tshirt available as he said on Soccer AM, would love that!

Any help would be appreciated!

20
staying with my mum in gillinham for a week and thought i'd catch a local game. was great to see two league two sides playing football the right way,on the ground. a certain frank nouble seems to have found his level he was fantastic for gillingham. also one to look out for is luke rooney, came through their youth system and ran the midfield, looked very much like a young scott parker, even had the 90's footballer curtains haircut!
think i have a new 2nd team!

21
Just reading about James Vaughn being injured AGAIN for norwich, just was wondering why some players can get all sorts of different injuries all the time, some players have reoccurencies but some just have unlucky bodies it seems!

22
Just thinking about how for quite some time now we've played with one up top and we havent really had a srike "duo" for a long time. i find the prospect of odemwingie and long forging a partnership with one another pretty exciting. i'm kind of looking at the partnership as a good thing and i think the 442 system will work and rather than worry about it i'm more interested to see a solid front two for a few seasons together, and as we saw yesturday the early signs are very good. opinions?

23
With people saying how Roy likes his 442's i wondered what some of the more knowledgeable posters who see us a lot think will suffer/flourish in a new formation. I think we'll see players miss out on the squad completely that we were used to seeing on the bench. Brunt and Mulumbu would be the first names on the team sheet but then it's two out of Dorrans, Morrisson, Tchoyi, Thomas, Scharner, then the utility players Jara and Reid plus the possible incomings of Vaughn and Gera, and the upcoming Thorne!

That's 12 players vying for 4 places! Surely we're going to see players leave, thorne possibly loaned out.

Opinions please!
