74: West Brom have been a little unfortunate in this second half. They have been the better team and created several opportunities - but just failed to take them. Palace have offered little in attack since the interval. - quote from SKY

Is it all doom and gloom? Sitting in the Dominican Republic and can't get a stream. Second goal unlucky.

We've been better second half.

Here's the live link again if you missed it.

It doesn't matter how many resources you have.

It's been a friendly. Neither side really done much. Palace scored a free kick and an extremely lucky long range shot, not really had a chance inside the box, we've not created too much either though perhaps should have a goal or two but for poor finishing/final pass.

As ever with friendlies drawing conclusions is pretty pointless in general.

And a couple of smart saves.

Better second half deserved at least one back, palace offered nothing. Phillips, Hegazi and Wilson coming on left back positives for me.

Hegazi looks fantastic. Phillips has been excellent too. Leko looking good since coming on. Plenty of positives for me and also some highlighting that we need a natural left back so that we have Nyom/Dawson competing for right back with Dawson to cover centre back injuries. The glimpses i saw of Chadli he looked to be doing ok but i'm seeing a lot of negatives everywhere on him.

I would pay the transfer fee for Hegazy now! 2 sloppy goals you'd expect to concede with players who aren't fully fit. Good football second half, the younger players look very good.
Why do the club insist on spelling 'Hegazi' when they are tagging his personal Facebook page in things and his name is clearly spelled with a Y at the end, bugs me  ;)

In summary.

We need new fullbacks, we've known that for a while though.

Dawson is woeful, emergency cover at right back should be his spot.

We lack creativity and a burst of pace through the middle of the pitch

Don't care about the result but hopefully the 'embarrassment' of finishing 4th in our big exposure to the Asian market spurs the club into action on the transfer front.

Glad a few people are starting to realise how bad Dawson is though, for someone so bad with the ball at his feet you'd atleast expect him to be a solid defender.

I don't think we did too bad there really, Palace just had that bit of luck and we were poor finishing. We desperately need new faces though to add to the squad, that is clear.

Didn't watch the game to be honest, will have been a very beneficial tournament though as they'll have definitely got a good workout over there in that humidity. I take no real notice in the results at all as we all know what these games are for and that's just fitness in reality. The intensity of a real Premier League game simply can't be recreated at these tournaments but maybe having a slightest of competitive edges to it will have helped us.

In which case I consider myself honoured to have been in attendance when the U23's overcame the Mighty Rhyl by four goals to nil.

Only caught the second half and to be honest I didn't think we played ok, Hegazy looked solid to me and Mclean played well, In the end a friendly result don't mean anything just a proper work out for the lads.

Wish we had a manager like Frank de Boer. Won a few championships in his time and believes in good attacking football.
And I don't blame him for having a go at the treatment of Saha. De Boer knows a bit about tackling. Played as Holland's main back over 100 times.

Question is what do you do with Zaha, stand off and let him run ? ...can't deny he's a very dangerous player with a lot of tricks and difficult to stop when he's in his stride.

On another note, all our youngsters did OK when they came on. Think Wilson has grown an inch or two and gives the impression of having a good engine and a few gears for getting up and down the pitch. Him and Roberts look pretty strong physically, Field and Leko will probably fill out a touch more in the next year or two but they are pretty good builds already.

Can't believe some people are moaning about a pre-season result. Remember when someone like Oxford beat Newcastle 6-0 then Newcastle got over 100 points in the Championship?

So far in this tournament we've effectively drawn one and lost one for christs sake.

Lets see how he does in the Premier League. I bet we finish above Palace.

You will find that Frank de Boer and Ronald Koeman are very similar managers. They are both ex Ajax where it is almost compulsory to play attacking football out from the back and with proper wingers. In the transfer market they will always go for creative intelligent players with emphasis on skill and pace.  They both know the European market pretty much inside out, and given their contacts, and funds available in the Premier Leage they will cream off the best talent.
