At best she has naively not checked the prohibited list and just continued to take the drug when it was banned.

At best she was taking it for medical reasons and then didn't realise it had been placed on the banned substance list.

At worst she managed to find a drug that enhanced performance (hence why others have been caught taking it) that wasn't on the list, and it casts the question about whether a drug not the black list is still ok to use.

I think it was Billie jean King who was asked about this earlier this week, she said that Maria is a multi-million dollar business and as such has a huge team and someone in the team would be responsible for being on top of this and basically it is that person(s) who has screwed up.

I have a lot of sympathy for MS's predicament but as in any business, if you screw up on a big enough scale the person at the top is ultimately the one who has to carry the can.

Very dodgie circumstances surrounding this drugs use/licencing history.

Further to this it seems a little odd that she felt the need to use medication which has no licence in the country where she has lived for the last decade or so.

They do have heart medication and cardiologists in America.

Sounds to me like she's just been caught out really. To my knowledge when you take a drugs test in sport you have to list any medication or supplements you have been taking and as she claims to have been taking it for a decade then it will be interesting to see if it is listed on her previous tests.

I do find it a little strange that the authorities allowed her to get on the front foot from a PR standpoint by having her own press conference to announce the failed test, not sure that has ever happened before.
