Wolves away 89-90 season.  They doubled us that season both times 2-1 with Bull getting both winners.   :'(

Remember the chunks of concrete constantly come flying over from the home end and this fella having half the stand sticking out of his head and blood everywhere.
I was at that game too. A woman yards away from me had her head split open from the flying debris.

Birmingham City during the 78/79 season. A 1-1 draw, Joe Gallagher scored for Blues and Bryan Robson got a late equaliser for us.

Interesting.  I've called foster the best since Godden on here before then wondered if he was better after posting. Better than Osborne? Only saw him a couple of times as a little kid but held in very high regard. Do you think he's better than Ossie? I know the game has moved on (I've watched it happen!) but if you're right then Ben could be an Albion legend because Osborne most definately is!

It was probably wrong of me to mention Ossie as like you i was only young when he was between the sticks and quite rightly is an Albion legend.  Godden was a very good keeper who had a fantastic team in front of him. All i will say that i didn't realise how good Foster actually was till he signed on loan last season and he definately saved us points. Needs to be signed and yes he too could in years to come write his name in Albion folklore.

Over the years we have had some top keepers since i've been going to games with the likes of John Osborne, Tony Godden, Alan Miller and Russell Hoult but i honestly believe Foster is as good if not better than all these. He loves it here and has a great rapport with the supporters. I too would be very disappointed if we didn't sign him.

Was listening to Talksport on Friday and they were talking about the England v Belgium game on the Saturday. It was announced they were going to be speaking to former Stoke and West HAM defender Carl Hoefkens about the game. Typical London biased station.

Fantastic gesture. Makes me so proud to be A Baggy. Rivalry seems so unimportant in times like this. Get well soon Toby.

Liverpool at home. We always seem to have a tough first game.

Decent ones at their times where Graham Fenton, John Durnin and Chris Kirkland.

12
Ally Brown has been mentioned and i think thats a good shout. He was deceptively quick and was a decent goalscorer in admittedly a very good Albion side.

We've had some dross over the last say thirty years, the likes of Buckley,Smith,Little & Gould but i would go for Ron Saunders. He came in five years after winning the equivalent of The Premier League with Aston Villa but was absolutely useless here. Also the man responsible for selling Steve Bull to Wolves.

The 78/79 side of Godden, Batson, Statham, T.Brown, Wile, Robertson, Robson, A.Brown, Regis, Cantello, Cunningham. sub. Johnston.

Yes i heard what the comentator said and had to rewind it to make sore i'd heard it correctly. My memoy of that semi final was it just seemed to be a re-run of the play-off final against Derby the year before. We played well especially in the first half, hit the bar, lost 1-0 and both Derby and Portsmouth scored at the same end. The ball even nestled in the same part of the net lol.

The frustrating part is all the hard work of getting a draw against Man.City as now gone out of the window with this totally abject performance. Really struggling to think of anyone who played particularly well today.  :(

Think it maybe time for Thomas to be rested. He seems to promise so much but deliver so little of late. Maybe push Brunt (who also seems out of sorts) out into his natural left sided position, Gera on the right which would allow Dorrans to maybe play behind the striker.

Huttons an animal who new exactly what he was doing. Villa seemed to target Long as they were scared of his pace. Can't see it happening but i really hope the powers that be give Hutton the ban he deserves from such a crude challenge.

Get well soon Tony. Like people beforehand have said The Bomber was and his a true Albion legend. Think its about time we named a stand after the great man.

Seem to always do well against Leicester (apart from that 4-1 defeat at our place when Luke Moore got sent off.)

The goal Cyrille Regis scored against them in a FA Cup tie in 1982 at The Hawthorns' a rocket from about 30 yards out. Think it won goal of the season.

« on: August 29, 2011, 08:14:50 PM »
Poor goal to concede and i think both Tamas and Foster were equally culpable. But seeing replays on TV i do believe that it was a foul on two counts, Foster had the ball in his hands and Shottons boot was high.

This is no disrespect to todays team which is definately the best we've had in years, but i reckon The 1978-79 side was superb. Godden, Batson, Statham, T. Brown, Wile, Robertson, Robson, A.Brown, Regis, Cantello, Cunningham.  We also had Willie Johnston at that time, oh and David Mills.
