West Bromwich Albion FC / Set Pieces
« on: October 05, 2024, 10:43:07 PM »
I sat there today not for the first time thinking why are we not more of a threat from set pieces? When you look at the regulars in our team, from corners we have at least Heggem, Bartley and Ajayi on the pitch and in the last couple games we have added Racic into that yet i can't think of us ever really threatening from a corner. There was even one point towards the end of the game today where Heggem wasn't even going to be in the box for one until he was told to at the last minute.

In games like today a set piece could make a difference, maybe it's a time to look at a set piece coach? It has worked for a couple of teams like Aston Villa and Arsenal.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Callum Marshall Joins Albion on loan
« on: January 26, 2024, 01:31:27 PM »
Reporting on twitter that were signing Callum Marshall on loan from West Ham. It's come from someone who is very reliable on West Ham news so looks like it could be happening.

Edit: Bit more about him, scored 16 in 10 apparently in the PL2 and 3 in 4 in EFL trophy. Centre forward who it looks like can play on the left as well.

West Bromwich Albion FC / West Brom seek loan from MSD Holdings
« on: October 29, 2022, 01:00:17 AM »
I've just been forwarded an article from the Daily Mail sports page which worryingly states we are currently in talks with a private equity firm based in the US called MSD Holdings and are looking to borrow between £15 million and £25 million which will be repaid at an interest rate of 10%. I just wondered if anyone else had heard of anything like this before? It states other clubs have done this in the past (including Derby, Sunderland, Burnley and Southampton). I will post the article link below, sorry mods if i have done anything wrong.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11366915/AHEAD-GAME-Blues-target-broke-FA-rules-West-Brom-look-seal-25m-loan-transfers.html

"Corberan has inherited a side lying second-bottom of the Championship ahead of his first game in charge on Friday, against Sheffield United at the Hawthorns. Despite the danger of relegation to League One, though, the Spaniard has been told money for signings in January is dependent on the club securing external funding.

West Brom have recorded combined losses of around £23m over the last two years and were three months late in publishing last year’s accounts. Owner Guochuan Lai has attracted strong criticism from fans about the secrecy surrounding the club’s complex financial arrangements.

Lai borrowed £4.9m from the club last year and used their shares to secure another £2m loan. He is also liable for another £3.7m loan taken out by West Brom’s previous owner Jeremy Peace.

West Brom’s talks with MSD Holdings are based on borrowing between £15m and £25m repayable at an interest rate of around 10 per cent. The American company have become the go-to lender for clubs in recent years, with Southampton, Burnley, Derby and Sunderland all borrowing significant sums"

General Football & Sports / Football in Germany
« on: February 23, 2015, 10:49:04 PM »
I think personally we could all learn a lot from fans in Germany and even the way clubs are run over there and after seeing a video on Facebook i had to post it on here...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9ANBrUFLDg

For those that don't want to watch it, it basically shows an 18 year old defender make a mistake to effectively lose them the game but at the end instead of shouting abuse at the lad they literally put their arms around him and pretty much reassure him that it doesn't matter. Made me think what would happen in the same situation at WBA, if Andre Wisdom for example made me a mistake which lost us the game against Villa. Do you think he would get the same treatment this young lad did? I don't think so.

Just thought i would post the video to show that football fans can be nice too!

West Bromwich Albion FC / Hodgson hints at deal talks

Roy Hodgson says there is a chance he could soon sit down and thrash out a new deal with West Brom, with the club prepared to talk terms.

Hodgson arrived at The Hawthorns in February, shortly after seeing an ill-fated stint in the Liverpool hot-seat come to an end.

He signed a contract that is due to run until the end of the 2011/12 campaign.

With that agreement running out, the Baggies are keen to tie their coach down for the foreseeable future.

Hodgson claims he is close to deciding what to do next, and has hinted that he will soon sit down with club officials and discuss an extension.

"I'm sure there will come a time when I make a clear decision about what I want to do in the near future," he said.

"The club have been kind enough to let me know that, if I want to, they'll be more than happy to sit down with me.

"I'm quite happy where we are and let's see how things develop."
