SC has already indicated his desire for us to do well in one of the Cup competitions.Well Liverpool dashed our hopes in one,so what do you think our prospects are for having a good FA Cup run? On paper we certainly have the necessary talent,but do we have enough strength in depth? Its possible that Lukaku could be gone in January,and we may not be given permission to play him anyway. I have been lucky enough to see us win the FA Cup,one thing about that 68 Team reminds me very much of todays players.They always gave 100% on the pitch,and defended like Warriors!
Personally,the competition doesnt have the same excitement about it as it used to.I loved playing the semi finals at a neutral ground,and then,if your Team wernt in the final of course,all gathering round the tele to watch the 3.00pm kick off. Anyway thats nostalgia,Coming back up to date,What do you think our chances are?
Have we really got whats necessary to have a good Cup run,or did SC put that down as one of the targets because he didnt expect us to be where we are in the League? If we can maintain the heady heights we are at now,Do League performances then become the priority,and we inevitably put out a weakened Team in the Cup?

Me personally .... Think the Cups are a pleasant distraction but it comes in the vast majority of cases down to the luck of the draw.  i.e. 2008, if we'd beaten Portsmouth we would have been favourites for the cup, but we didn't so we weren't.If we get a good draw and go far, great .... But for me if we're going well in the league that would be my top priority.

If we drop of the pace a little, the cup would become a welcome distraction and confidence booster.

I strongly believe that  the cup to us, at the moment means ... more money/games ..... GOOD, but the likelyhood a injuries taking their toll on our squad ...... BAD

Sorry to be such a killjoy ..... but the bottom line is the draw, if big clubs draw each other if gives us a better chance .... especially in the latter stages.

I think that our excellent start to  the season is likely to increase the importance of the Cups. Our priority at the start of the season as with about 2/3rds of clubs would have been to get to the 40 point mark as soon as possible.
From the other end, we will be very unlikely to keep place for Champions League and maybe outsiders to go to the Europe Cup through our League.
With what would likely be a relatively comfortable mid-table campaign we could be afforded the chace to focus more on Cup games than the League.

As we are unlikely to slip into the relegation battle, I would say play our strongest team in every round.

Places in the league are all well and good, but the memory of a cup win is something special.

That is a pretty decent side, I really hope we have a good run in the FA Cup this season, its about time we did.

I want to see us take it seriously and with SC im sure we will. The biggest thing with the FA cup though is the draw. You really need a bit of luck with that.

52 years ago today, 18th May 1968, we Won the FA Cup. It seems like yesterday to me, I was a 20 year old jumping up and down with tears streaming from my eyes. There was no Boing, Boing in those days. COYB!!!!

No doubt I was crawling around the floor in a house on Dines Green, Worcester. I was 16 months old...not drunk!

My mother and father, and my Uncle Frank all went down in my uncle’s new Ford Escort. I remember it as a cold, overcast day, but the sun broke through in extra time and Jeff scored. What a great day.

I’d been to Wembley the season before for the 2-3 defeat to QPR, I was there again in ‘70 for the Man City game, and in between I’d been to Hillsboro fir the Leicester semifinal.

Back then I thought it was always going to be like that, either semi finals, finals or winning stuff every year.

Travelled down to the match on the official Albion coaches. Myself, my brother in law, my step father and a friend. We were under the cosh most of the match. Jeff scored towards "our" end and came running over. "Oh, happy days".

I will have been 16 months old too, crawling about the floor in a bed sit in Bearwood. Dad was at the match, but as an Evertonian, he didn’t enjoy it much. Quite annoying that my non Albion supporting father has seen us lift a cup and I haven’t.

I was four months and one week young when we won the FA Cup. Mixed feelings about that. On one hand it's good we've won the FA Cup in my lifetime. On the other it's quite sobering to realise just how old I'm getting. Closer to being one hundred than one. This is not a good thing. Still, at least it's one in my sisters eye as she didn't think I'd even get to twenty one. Up yours sis', you horrible mare bag  .

I was there as a starry eyed 19 year old with my Dad, his cousins and respective Uncles having travelled on the train from Dudley Port. I was also at the QPR game the previous year, heart-broken, so it was an especially joyous occasion! I don’t think I ever saw my Dad so happy! Such a shame the FA Cup doesn’t seem to have the same allure these days........

A truly great day, I feel as though I remember every kick of the game.
A few random memories.
We were substantially outnumbered outside the ground, with hundreds of Everton supporters without tickets.
There were reports of Albion supporters having their tickets nicked as they neared the turnstiles.
Many Everton supporters tried scaling the walls in an attempt to get in.
I think both clubs had around 14,000 tickets in those days, so the first thing to do once you got inside your "pen" was to shuffle around close to genuine supporters.
I only missed 1 match Home and Away that season and struggled to get a ticket, which I got on the strength of my ticket stub from the Anfield replay. We had relatively few season ticket holders in those days, and letters of application were invited. It was farcical and caused me to get my first season ticket for the following season (standing on the Brummie), and I have had one ever since.
Alan Ball was magnificent in his endeavour, but left the pitch in tears after tossing his LOSERS MEDAL to Everton supporters.
I went on official coaches and was booked on an early return so celebrated with my mates at the Rising Sun in  Coseley.
This after being on late returning coaches from both losing League Cup Finals.

Very similar memories to yours Chipper, but would add the soaking at Maine Road in the second Liverpool replay. Me and a couple of mates went down to Wembley on the official coaches but ended up drinking all night with some Everton lads in a pub somewhere near the old Arsenal ground. The gaffer let us stay the night and we then caught the early train to New St from Euston. All a bit of a blur really but we all stayed in touch for some years until things like getting married or going abroad got in the way. Ah such happy times supporting this club.
