West Bromwich Albion FC / The Saturday Men
« on: October 04, 2017, 08:42:44 AM »
I was setting up my new Firestick last night for Kodi and I found a documentary called 'The Saturday Men'. It was a behind the scenes look at West Bromwich Albion. What a wonderful piece of film it is.....just goes to prove how much the game has changed. Filmed in 1962, it contains wonderful footage of Don Howe, Bobby Robson, Derek Kevan and a very young Bobby Hope. A great piece with a load of football fans sat in Teddy Sandfords café discussing the team, not to dissimilar too what we talk about....and a board meeting where the manager Archie Macauley had to explain to them how the previous game went. The board then agreed next weeks team selection!

Hard to believe that the majority of them are no longer with us.

I have just checked and it is available on YouTube so if you want a piece of nostalgia from our great club then please have a look.......search for 'The Saturday Men' and it will be first up

General Football & Sports / Football in China

Can someone enlighten me please?

Over the past few years China have become a real force in football with regard to ownership of European clubs etc. However, what I really cannot understand is how they can offer £60m for Oscar and pay him £400,000 per week! Better still, Tevez is mulling over an offer of £615,000 per week! What is there to think about???

A couple of years ago they were picking up players at the end of their careers, but they now seem to be able to pay big money for decent  current players now.

Where is all this money coming from and should we be worried for football?

General Football & Sports / The class of 92
« on: November 11, 2015, 01:30:07 PM »
Apologies if this has been covered before...

Just watched the Class of 92 series that was recently on. Really enjoyed it and I have to say that it has changed my opinion of some of the 'class'. Nice to see 5 lads club together and put something back into grass roots football.

However, what I enjoyed the most was the appointment of the two managers, Morley and Johnson. I thought their 'no nonsense' attitude was spot on to be honest. I know that they are just a couple of van drivers by day, but you have to admit that they certainly have something about them. I don't think that they will be van drivers for much longer.

I even found myself watching the game on Friday rooting for Salford. The second goal was a wonderful piece of skill. If it had been Ronaldo or Messi it would have been all over the news.

What does everyone else think?
