"ZOLTAN Gera has received congratulatory messages from a trio of Albion stars following the announcement of his retirement. ..."

A very, very special player for us (& others).
Thank you Zoltan & good wishes for the future!

The goal vs Liverpool always come to my mind;

This was what summed up Zoltan for me, at 1 minute 41 seconds; we scored from the resultant corner.

What a player.

That goal and that game versus Liverpool  ;D .

The camera in the Smethwick End used to be a row or two directly behind me.

When the video pans to the view from behind the goal (from about 23 seconds in) that's how I saw it on the day.

Wonderful strike, I started shouting and celebrating as it left his foot.

Tremendous goal.

Thanks for the memories Zolly  8) .

Outstanding player. A unbelievable talent and a top bloke to boot. Scored some amazing goals for us. It was a crying shame he suffered with two major injuries during his second spell but that didn't stop him from scoring some crackers and putting in some good performance. I like the fact that big dave mentions in the club interview that he wants to get him back so we can send him off properly. All the best in your retirement Zoltan. What we could give to have a player half your talent now.

Well one thing's for sure, we're going to be facing a heck of a lot of our former players this coming season.

Sinclair’s unlikely to be one of them though since Sunderland were relegated last season.

Big Ish Miller has joined League Two side Oldham.

Can’t help but feel sorry for the guy, that injury against Portsmouth ruined him.

Another reminder needed

As a moderating team we have discussed the best way to talk about ex-players and feel the best way is to have one topic where any ex-player can be discussed.

The point of the thread is to keep people updated on where some of our ex-players whether legend, boo-boy or even youngsters have ended up and what they are up to these days.

THIS THREAD IS NOT FOR TELLING PEOPLE THAT XX OR YY PLAYER HAS JUST SCORED A GOAL OR BEEN SENT-OFF ETC AS THERE ARE THREADS IN THE GENERAL SPORTS FORUM FOR THINGS LIKE THAT SO IF YOUR POST TELLING US THAT SIMON COX OR LUKE MOORE HAS JUST SCORED IS NOT IN THIS THREAD TRY THE OTHER FORUMS BEFORE MOANING AND PLAYING YOUR FACE TO US AS YOU MAY END UP LOOKING A BIT OF AN backside  ;)

There will be a seperate thread for players out on loan as there are still OUR players until we release them or sell them etc.

I really do hope he gets a club soon, he was a model professional for us and a solid defender, good luck for the future Gareth!

Izzy Brown joins Keemar Roofe and Tyler Roberts in the Leeds forward line, meaning Leeds now have more Albion academy forwards that we do 😁.

On Roberts, he started for Leeds midweek but from the reports he was disappointing. He has made the Wales national team though.

Berahino and McLean getting goals for Stoke in the past 7 days as well, interesting to see if Berahino can kick on from this.

He will give his best, I am sure.
We shouldn't have let him go so early.

A few weeks ago I heard on the radio mention to a young Finnish striker scoring in the league cup with a name that I recognised.

Having just checked, it was confirmed as our ex academy team striker Marcus Forss, who scored his first professional goal for Brentford in their league cup game vs Southend a few weeks ago. He also started in their win in the last round vs Cheltenham as well.

In the top 3 divisions, we have 9 former Albion academy forwards getting game time - Forss, Chris Wood, Saido Berahino, Tyler Roberts, Keemar Roofe, Izzy Brown, Jerome Sinclair, Romaine Sawyers and Alex Jones, plus Adil Nabi in Scotland. Add to those Edwards and Leko, plus , Tulloch, Soule, Rodgers and Barry in the youth set up and you get the impression we have no problem developing players in that area of the pitch.
