West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Gamboa - attacking option?
« on: October 31, 2014, 01:07:53 PM »
Good shout but do we drop Dorrans or move Dorrans into the middle and drop Morrison ?

Spot on. Dorrans still needs to be in the middle to get the best out of him. Morrison hasn't been great imo and as everyone has said we are severely lacking pace on the wings so it would be a perfect fit! Worth a try at least!

'Villan', I see you slate our home support in the game against you lot at the hawthorns last season. We're you there!? Because I for one certaintly remember it being a brilliant atmosphere and something that is a far cry from "a horrific excuse for support"

Its not the biggest by any means but it is still a vital game for both teams. Plus the fact that it is BCD just makes it a huge game anyway for me. There is never a BCD i couldnt get excited for, they are the best games ever if we win but if we lose then they're just painful to endure.

Going to be a very very tense affair with both teams desperate to get out of bad patches. I'm really nervous about this one which is a weird feeling going into a BCD as i normally always feel we have a good chance but now i'm not too sure. It would be unbearable to see them beat us at the shrine especially given i havent forgiven the players yet for the shower of **** we endured at the custard bowl last year.

This game for me means so much. Its a BCD for one and its a must win in terms of getting our season up and running aswell. If i'm nervous now, i dread to think what it will be like in a few weeks time. But still. Keep the faith, come on you baggies!!

Utterly disgraceful. If that was an albion player, no matter which one or how good he was I'd be saying good riddance. No room for that kind of behaviour in football

I'm not particularly nervous for this as I was for fulham as we are the away side in a tough fixture so I'm not expecting anything. A point would be brilliant and would, as long as it was accompanied by a good performance, begin to fill me with some confidence in our team going into the BCD

A point would be a very good result for us here. This will be a very tough game with them being a good side and them being at home. I'm confident about it at all but i have faith.

A point on saturday would give a boost of confidence going into the dingles game

So many to choose from over the last decade.

Vela's goal last year has to be one of the best, the fact that had we lost I'd have said we were down, plus the fact that the dgoheads were celebrating the victory until we snatched it off them made it a moment of euphoria

Oh dear lord this could be painful. But I'm still buzzing for it, this is the game that could kickstart our season. Form going out the window, but considering us and the dingles are in shocking form I reckon its going to be a very tense affair. Please, for the love of god albion beat these tossers!!

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Peter Odemwingie
« on: September 24, 2011, 08:32:32 PM »
We have the 5th highest goal scorer in the Premiership last year (15 Prem goals), our all time ever Premiership top goalscorer, someone who has a lot more to his game than just goals too.  However, as a reward, the following season from pretty much the start, we ask him play in another position from last year, shackle his game, to accommodate a striker from the Championship who's largely looking of that quality so far.

Sure, Odemwingie didn't have the greatest of games today, but to me he looked like one of our few attacking threats despite not putting away his chance.  It was a chance which would not have not existed had it not been for his pace and positioning off the shoulder of the last man (credit to Mulumbu too for the pass).

If the guy had a run of about 4 or 5 games doing terribly this season, playing where he played last year, I could quite understand a change, a shunting of him out to the wing, however, I'm really failing to see what Long offers that he doesn't.

It wasn't broke, I'm not sure we have tried to fix it.

At a guess, I doubt he's too happy about it either and that will show through in his game; and in a way I could kind of understand that too, after the amazing season he had up top for us last year.

Completely agree. For me we have to return to the old 4-5-1 with pete up top on his own and have dozza in behind him as the advanced creative midfielder. Not sure roy will see it this way but it is my opinion on how to get the most out of our team

Come on then albion. Time to get our season up and running properly, time to stand up and make people take notice that we are not going to suffer from the illusive 'second season syndrome'.

Its football day and I'm nervous as hell. Come on you baggie boys!!

I think its going to be a very tough game for us. Two sides known for good attacking football will provide good entertainment from the neutral. However from our point of veiw I think its a must not lose whereas for swansea its a must win in my opinion. So it all bodes for a great contest and with our tickets selling out very quickly and swanseas good home support it should be a cracking atmosphere too. I personally think we will have too much for swansea, no disrespect I just think we posses a much better squad. I'm goin for 2-1 albion. Boing boing!!

Didn't put in the best of shifts today, he has all the attributes to play the target man except sometimes his touch let's him down. It'll come though imo

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Roy's brand of football
« on: September 15, 2011, 06:07:58 PM »
What about grind away and silky smooth at home

In a perfect world i'd say that this would say that this is the way forward but at the moment i reckon roy will just be trying to make us hard to beat at all times, maybe giving the attackers more freedom at home but i could well see this being a season focusing on getting our defence as solid as possible. And as long as this bring results then im not bothered for now

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Marek Cech Leaves For Trabzonspor
« on: September 15, 2011, 06:01:38 PM »
Im glad he's doing well for himself but i think after a few seasons in and out of our team i think it was good for him as a footballer to move on. I always thought he was decent but a back up at most. Mattock is still only 21 so i hope he can play a decent back up role if ever called upon, but i will need convincing

Albion Matchday Forum / Re: What Swansea player would get in our Team
« on: September 14, 2011, 08:52:21 PM »
I wouldnt say at the moment that any of them would get into our starting 11. I mean that with no disrespect i just dont rate their players very highly. Thats not to say it will be an easy game as they are a good side who will be difficult to beat at home with good support

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Jonas Olsson
« on: September 14, 2011, 08:47:26 PM »
The only centre half's outside the top 4 I'd swap Olsson for are Shawcross , Cahill , Jagielka and Hangelaand, I rate him that highly

Completely agree. I think he will really come to he forefront this season as our general defensive play improves and our defenders get more attention and respect

19
Can't fault Long after his first few performances. 100% effort, a couple of goals and he doesn't give centre-halves an easy game. He's only young and is still learning but the potential is definitely there. A fully fit and firing Odemwingie could help him massively this season.

I agree. With all pete's experience and long's enthusiasm i think they could potentially be perfect for each other. We'll have to wait and see

Absolutely no striker this season will enjoy playing against Jonas. I think he just about stays on the right side of the law with his physicality. He really is a top top defender, I think he is really going to enjoy this season and will come out of it with a big reputation as one of the best defenders in the league. Hes no nonsense, hes so good in the air, hes great with his left foot.

4 games in and he has kept every striker hes played against quiet

I've always thought that too, i think he's very deceptive with it as he appears to be very uncoordinated when passing but his passes are usually very good

The best memory for me has to be the win there last year, brilliant day out, freezing but brilliant.

Ther other memories were the last home game last season, then the game we lost 2-0 under mowbray, the one where luke moore came on and was fantastic. Theres also the game that season at home, 2-1- where bednar scored a penalty at the end.

I still think that this is a must not lose following our win against norwich. A win would be great but i think a point would do.

I think they will be hard to beat, they will play good football and will come at us all guns blazing in search of their firtst goal but i think we could still be too much for them.....hopefully

Personally im tired of hard luck stories but there is a middle ground to be found imo,Sunday wasnt great to watch and neither was the Stoke game. All im saying is we need to give this time, its a new system and style that the players have to get used to and we've probably only really tried it the last two games.Imo Roy is trying to build from the back and given our god awful reputation for giving soft goals away its going to take time, certainly Fulham under him were decent to watch with Davies/Duff/Zamora and Dempsey not to mention Gera. Give it time folks.

I'm with you here. I think our team is just getting used to roys way of playing. I think when roy first came in he knew it wouldnt do us any good to come in and change everything around, this is where is experience came to light for me as he simply made us a little more organised at the back but apart from that it was pretty much the same but with the extra determination and belief.

Now over the summer roy appears to have worked really hard on the defence which has shown so far, i think the rest of the team are just trying to adapt and it'll all come good in time. At least thats what i hope  ::)  ;D

I seriously don't know why people don't smash it towards a top corner... say a foot inside. They all should be capable of hitting a taget from there and there is zero chance of the keeper stopping it....

unless your hitting the inside netting at speed your asking for trouble should the keeper guess the right way when its 1-4 feet from the ground.

I agree, top corner and its in, simple as. And i agree they should all be capable but many players nerves get to them in front of 20,000+ as it would most people. The best penalty takers are the ones that can hold their nerve at these crucial moments.

25
I am in a way, provided we look at ways to make our midfield more active in games.

We know for the first time in years we are lethal up front and that can have a big effect in you staying up, as seen by Odemwingie's great goal yesterday. Long is also very strong and wins so many headers and I think in time he could find a great understanding with Odemwingie but I think first we need to get the midfield supporting them else they will be feeding off scraps.

I do agree with what you say about long and odemwingie possibly forming a great partnership but part of me would much rather us see only one at a time in the starting 11 and keeping our midifeld bolstered. This would then allow us to see how the game develops and possibly switch to 4-4-2 later on
