West Bromwich Albion FC / Neil Cutler leaves

Neil Cutler has left to join the Seals and be reunited with Dean Smith.  Academy GK Coach, Mark Naylor, will train the first team GK's in the interim until a replacement is found

I'd prefer to see Brunt out wide, but in our current system the wingbacks have to get up and down the pitch a lot and cover a lot of ground.  I'm not sure Brunt still still has the legs to do this for a prolonged period.

Have done a fair few.... sometimes the football isn't great, but it pretty much always a great atmosphere;

Union Berlin v Duisburg
Anderlecht - Ajax
Several FC Utrecht games
Milan vs Juve
NAC Breda vs Groningen
NEC Nijmegan - Den Haag
Ajax vs Feyenoord
PSV - Feyenoord

Nixon said Lee Johnson last week , I've also read someone quoting Dean Smith's wife that they have no intention of moving from London.
Time will tell I suppose.

I'm pretty sure that Dean Smith lives in Streetly; His family didn't want to move when he left Walsall

I can't see anybody wanting to pay £17m for him after his injuries and mediocre performances during his stint with us.

I suspect he'll be gone in the summer as part of Jenkins' review and wont have any input into the new manager.

Apparently fit to train this week and is in contention for the squad for the Swansea game.

Something smells a bit fishy to me.

I'm under the impression that if Evans doesn't get sold in the next week, Livermore or Yacob could try and be moved on to free up wages for a striker / attacking midfielder

You do realise Burke, Barry, Rodriguez, Krychowiak, and Gibbs were all someone else's leavings right? None of them were first choice in their respective teams.

True, but they were our choice - Not someone we offered and didn't want.

Are these points valids even if he moves abroad? does a tribunal fee still get awarded if he chooses to play overseas.

No, not valid if he moves aboard - We get 2 carrots and a packet of Cadbury's buttons

Again my cynical side is coming out....

I wonder whether this is another ploy to help substantiate his tribunal fee if he leaves at the end of the season. Our new CEO used to be Stokes CFO until a few weeks ago, there is bound to still be strong links.  If Saido rejects a move to SCFC (as I fear he might in favour of trying to get a more prestigious club in the summer), it puts us in a stronger position to argue a high tribunal fee; i.e. He's been offered 3 increasingly high wage offers (the last we're led to believe is £60k per week).  We rejected several offers in excess of £20m 12 months ago and £15m offer with 6 months left to run on his contract. Hence this needs to be reflected in the tribunal fee.

I may (and hope to) be proved wrong, but I think there is an awful lot of smoke and mirrors going on by the club and Saido himself as they each posture a position which is best for themselves.

West Ham United and Sunderland are interested in Leeds United striker Chris Wood, but have been put off by the Championship club's valuation of the New Zealand international, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.

Leeds are determined to keep Wood as they look to maintain their bid for promotion and they have warned clubs off the former Leicester player by valuing him at £15 million.  :o

Wood has been in outstanding form for Leeds this season, scoring 17 goals in 29 games in all competitions to spearhead Leeds' bid for promotion back to the Premier League.

The 25-year-old, who has impressed in a lone forward role this term, scored the winning goal against Derby last Friday to send Leeds up to third place in the table and Wood's displays have not gone unnoticed by several Premier League clubs.

West Ham are in the market for a new striker during this month's transfer window, but have been frustrated in their attempts to land Sunderland's Jermain Defoe and Brentford's Scott Hogan.

Wood is also on West Ham's wanted list as Slaven Bilic looks to add to his attacking options at the London Stadium.

General Football & Sports / Jake Livermore
« on: January 16, 2017, 12:40:51 PM »
Looks like it's time for its own thread....

Albion have turned their attention to Jake Livermore after missing out on Morgan Schneiderlin and have approached Hull City with an offer.

Head coach Tony Pulis, who missed out on Schneiderlin last week when he joined Everton instead, wants to bring a central midfielder into his team this window.

The size of Albion's opening bid is unknown at this stage, but it's believed to be lower than the £18million they offered Manchester United for primary target Schneiderlin.

Having let Craig Gardner join Birmingham City on loan last week, Albion's central midfield options are light at the moment, and Pulis brought 18-year-old Sam Field off the bench at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

"Obviously we need to bring players in," he said. "We have to improve, everybody knows that. But whether we get what we want we have to wait and see."

Just like the whole contract signing issue... would anyone in the right mind sign a contract to a club if they felt they weren't going to be playing? (That obviously shows its not about the 60k a week and he obviously wants to go elsewhere to play football - i see no one is slagging him off for showing off on social media about how happy he was to get 90 mins under his belt last night were they? - nope because its not negative).

Regardless if people like it or not, you don't just 'lose talent', he will go elsewhere, maybe take a season to settle in, get upto speed and gel with the squad... have a cracking season there the season after and all the prem clubs will be keeping a close eye on him to see how he progresses.

I would imagine that we made the increasing contract offers in the knowledge that Saido wouldn't accept them. I guess these were done to add weight to our argument with the tribunal fee;  eg.  We have turned down bids up to £23m. The player himself has rejected a £60k p.w. contract = he must command a big fee

Swap, was a tongue in cheek comment. However, I agree with you that Bojan would be a great option if we could prise him from Stoke and give us something we don't currently have with our other strikers.  That said if he does move on from Stoke, I'd guess it would be back to Spain.

Bojan wants regular football - do a straight swap.

I’d have something for Olsson personally, he has had a bit of an up and down relationship with our support, few spats here and there over the years but there is no doubting he has been a fantastic servant and it would be nice to go on record (by means of a theme) to show our appreciation of his service in what is undoubtedly his last season with us.  I know it’s easy to criticise him these days but you can’t forget that he was a colossus for us for 4/5 seasons and has given us 9 years of his career.

I think that's a very decent shout

Wigan for me...

....Nothing club, nothing town, no football heritage. Got to the prem because of Whelan

No place in the Premier League

With the greatest of respect, don't you have to be in the top 6 to secure a Europa League place? If, as I suspect, this is Chinese Government driven, then Europa league is a given. They will want to demonstrate the a Chinese owned team can compete with some of the best in the world.

I certainly expect a top half finish this season, & possibly a decent run in the FA cup.

No, you can qualify from 7th position and from winning the cup

I too can't believe top six is a realistic aim, be it in 3, 5 or 10 years.  For me our aim should be Europa league and FA Cup Wins

Someone has already mentioned this to him on Twitter.

Oh well, if he decides to go then many thanks to Stephen Hopcroft for all that has been done at our academy.

I hope the rest of his team stay here though  ;) .

That was me - Seems it worked  ;D

Couldn't we just block a move in January like we have every window and take the tribunal when he leaves on a free?

Not if he goes abroad - you only get a tribunal if its a domestic move
