"Newcastle United have made a £21m bid to sign striker Saido Berahino from fellow Premier League club West Brom.

Baggies boss Tony Pulis said Berahino, 22, had "wasted three or four months" after a move to Tottenham was blocked last August.

The forward suggested he would not play for Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace again after the deal did not go through.

Berahino made a rare start against Peterborough in the FA Cup on Saturday and scored twice in a 2-2 draw."

Sorry if already been spoken about... Watched the game on a live stream today
hopefully will be shown on motd, TP getting very involved even when he's supposed
to be watching from the stands, sent his number 2 down to give instructions to
Downing & co on for than one occasion. I believe he instigated Yacob coming on to the pitch. Was very
entertaining to see. like having him here already!

They showed that on MOTD - was great to see. Wants to get started and obviously already has plenty to say.

I see this appointment as being almost identical to the Hodgson appointment a few years back. Now, as in 2011, we are hurtling towards the Championship and are desperately in need of someone to steady the ship. Both Hodgson and Pulis are managers who value substance over style and at the moment that is exactly what we need.

In a perfect world we would have a manager to suit a club ethos of attacking-energetic-passing football and players who fit that but we have neither of those. At the moment we have a squad which contains some talented individuals but has no real identity, its pretty much a pick and mix type squad, we have groups of players that all excel in completely different systems.

January is not the time for a complete overhaul of the squad, so right now we need a manager who will get the best out of the squad we do have. I see no better manager in the country, either in or out of work, than Tony Pulis to do this. His appointment is therefore a no-brainer.

Couldn't agree more. I'm genuinely excited about the rest of the season again.

I have no idea how we can possibly be upset by this.

The transformation at Palace last year was unbelievable - and at the end of the day who else is in the market better?

We've got one of the best out of work Premier League managers who has a proven knack of making teams hard to beat and rescuing them from seemingly hopeless positions.

People want to spout on about 'playing Pulisball' or 'long balls all season', are you seriously expecting us to come out and play beautiful football with this squad we currently have? They need a kicking and we need a respected authority figure at the helm of this club.

This is the best thing that has happened to this club for a long time, just go and check the internet for people's comments, most are glad their team has already come to the Hawthorns to play as they know what Pulis will do.

All of you who wanted a flouncing European style head coach who plays tiki-taka football with big Anichebe - Enjoy watching us stay up and get a few big scalps along the way.

We've just signed the Premier League Manager of the Season 2013-14, be happy FFS.

Pleased with the decision but I also wish him all the best.

It was never going to work out here realistically, too much venom at the appointment. It was an appalling decision for a Premier League team and the gamble didn't pay off.

News on Pulis:

"West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace's current approach sees technical director Terry Burton work with sporting director Richard Garlick to recruit players.

Former Stoke boss Pulis is prepared to work alongside Burton and Garlick, but wants the final say on whether to sign players."

To me that doesn't seem like a huge block for Peace - it still allows the structure to work. It's absolutely got to be Pulis for me, Palace played some decent stuff last season and he absolutely revitalised that team. I don't care how we win right now, Pulis has a knack of getting results from nowhere and that's exactly what we need. The thrill of winning is better than watching the nice football of the Mowbray era but getting relegated. Pulis was manager of the year last season and the man deserves some credit - he'll get us grinding out results over mid table teams.

I think their preference is on Pulis but they just have to move some pieces around to accommodate that - if he walks away then they will call on Sherwood knowing he's already had an interview previously and this time accepting his own staff are coming with him.

Either way this goes I firmly believe we'll be in a far stronger position than we were 24 hours ago.

Full credit to AI and the players today - absolutely fantastic performance. It was great to see, whilst I've openly criticised AI today there can be non of that, he set us up well and we looked in control for 95% of that game.

The jury is still out, all I know is that if he continues in the same way and performances like that continue I'll very happily eat my words and congratulate him wholeheartedly.

For now, enjoy it everyone, three wins in 7 days is a great feeling and Alan, you've done brilliantly this past week.

It's all well and good when people talk about time, but AI looks like one of the least inspirational people I've seen.

Slate Pulis, but I tell you what - he would get a starting 11 fighting. If the players are the issue I still cannot see Irvine managing to turn that around.

All this talk about defensively minded, we've conceded within two minutes of both games. We need a leader and someone who can kick these players into gear - AI is not that man.

I wasn't at the game today but had the 'pleasure' of watching us away at Swansea before the international break.

How was the atmosphere today? Are there senses of frustrations in the stands again Irvine? Is there realistically a time frame that Peace is going to put on this? I mean I think he has until Burnley at home to change the team's fortunes drastically.

A win may appease Peace but this football is absolutely horrific.

ANY PROTEST MUST BE AGAINST PEACE, NOT IRVINE.

The bloke ( Irvine ) is completely blameless in all of this as at the end of the day, alls he's done is to accept a job offer, FFS, who wouldn't from his position.

HOWEVER,

That useless piece of s*** who offered him the job is the one and only who will be protested against and deserves EVERYTHING that comes his was. The penny pinching, unscrupulous, manipulative, soul destroying b*****d that he is !!

I absolutely detest the bloke for what he has done here. This club has more money than it has EVER had and all we can afford is the youth coach from Everton............unbelievable !!

PROTEST THIS SATURDAY MORNING AT THE CLUB FOR THOSE WITH THE GUMPTION !!!

So, as an Albion fan you want the club to fail so that you can tell us 'I told you so'........... hmmm alternative view I guess.

As for there being no positives, well I'm sure I've read a few posted on here today but then again, yourself & many others seem to have made up your minds before the guy has pulled on a tracksuit.

It's not a case of truly wanting us to fail, it's more a realisation that is the direction we are heading.

If the team have a god start, within a few weeks you will al be backing him. Peace won't go, but hopefully most of you moaners will. Absolutely horrified by the appointment - been sitting reading through each page of this thread.

People are going to try and put any sort of positive on this, but there are non. Absolutely nothing. The facts are that this was a cheap appointment in a situation where our chairman yet again is unwilling to back down after only a few weeks back apparently seeing the light.

There are no positives to take from this and I can only hope that the fans spit venom at the first opportunity - I can't even imagine the response he's going to get when introduced at our first home game. Irvine will be gone within 5 games, I'm absolutely sure of it.

This is a sickening appointment and signals the end of my close association of Albion, I will no longer be travelling across the country, paying good money to go and watch a club run by a cheap, stubborn chairman.

Alan Irvine - I hope it goes absolutely tits up for you, not because I particular dislike you, but because this club needs a serious shock (apparently last year wasn't enough). You are going to feel the wrath of thousands of angry fans, I don't think there has ever been more pressure on a manager before their first game. You will crumble, we will crumble and hopefully Peace will crumble.

The manner in which we threw away the points today is disappointing however watching Spurs pop Sunderland 5-1 on Monday I would have happily taken a draw prior to kick off. All in all this was a good result and another vital point.

I firmly believe it leaves us needing 1 win to stay up. Sunderland, West Ham or Stoke.

Well done people.

As I said yesterday absolutely no need for panicked 'we're down' statements. We're still 3 points off the bottom three with a game in hand on Cardiff, beat Norwich and our position looks far more favourable.

There is disappointment after yesterday but the truth of the matter is that we were going to win that game in the 93rd minute apart from a very poor error of judgement from Berahino. No matter how we let the two goal advantage slip we still would have won that game had it not been for the final mistake.

We still have 7 games left of the season - Norwich, Spurs, City, Arsenal, Sunderland, West Ham, Stoke. To me that's really not a bad run in to the end of the season. With the exception of City and Arsenal there are the possibility of points at all of the other games. If Everton go and batter Fulham today I believe they are done for. That leaves two places to battle for - Does anyone really give Cardiff a shot? And to add to that Norwich have an absolutely horrific run in, if we can take three points there then I believe Norwich are really going to be in a hole.

For those who don't believe we can pull a result there just look at beating Swansea away - we can pick up points at Carrow Road.

What is the point of being so negative about every situation? There is nothing I can pose to you that you would be satisfied about.

2 weeks ago we beat Swansea away, something that seemed impossible given the situation. Now we draw to Cardiff everyone is instantly on the 'going down' wagon again.

I'm not going to speculate about where we can win because when it comes down to it anything can happen in the final 7 games. I just find absolutely nothing constructive to come from spouting off about how pooh we are and that we're going down just because we conceded late today.

Palace beat Chelsea today after playing well at Newcastle and losing with the last kick of the game - all we need is a little luck and to match the results of those below us - win lose or draw.

Just post match anger. Look at the table, one win against West Ham, Norwich, Sunderland and our position looks even better. I have said 2 wins and 2 draws from our remaining games is enough to survive. We hit one of those draws today and were unfortunate to not get three points.

Calm down people, there's plenty of football left and at LEAST three teams who are going to struggle as much as us. If we were in the bottom three now then yes we may have to worry, but as it stands have faith.

We have been bottom of the table at the start of the second half of the last game of the season and we had faith, let's not get carried away. This was a far better result for us than Cardiff, if the game didn't explode in the way it did at the end emotions wouldn't be so bitter now.
