Who would you like? Oxford away for me.

Dingles

Dingles
What a time it would be to draw them, hopefully their terrible run would continue and we could kick them whilst they are down come Jan. ;D
-
A home draw against lower league opposition. I don't fancy us against Dingles, sorry to say.
-
A London club away, few drinks in the capital and a big allocation

I reckon we’re well overdue an away day at Reading.

Good opportunity to get to 4th round though. If you can't get a decent away draw you want somebody beatable at home

Because of an overseas TV deal that runs for the next 6 seasons. 14 ties moved for the 3rd round.

Think of all that cash flooding into grass roots football though. I'm sure Hackney Marshes has submitted it's renovation plans already.
Either that or pay rises for the fat cats.
Wonder which it will be?

There can't be any soul left to sell surely? A mate of mine has got so disillusioned with pro football he gave up his ST and started watching his local non-league club and is loving it. Thankfully I have yet to reach that point, and can't see it ever happening as I've got blue and white running through my veins, but I get where he is coming from.
-
The TV changes are so disrespectful to the real supporters and the Championship seems to be worse than the Premier League. I have over an hours travel time to the Hawthorns, longer than that when coming to night games. I didn’t attend the Villa game as I just couldn’t face a Friday evening on the M6. It is likely to be the changes caused by the TV companies that will be the reason for not renewing my ST, maybe next season, even. I have been to my local non-league team in recent weeks and it has much to recommend it; free parking next to the ground, decent cheap beer in the clubhouse and I’m home 15 minutes after the ref blows the final whistle.

I think because we are a biggish fish in the Championship and at the right end of the table we will be on telly quite a bit, compared to being a small fish at the wrong end of the table or in mid table obscurity so not so attractive in the premier league.
I think it's genuinely sad that fans like yourself are made to feel so disillusioned with what TV has done to football that they give up watching the team they have supported for a long time.
Sadly clubs won't turn down the golden goose of TV money, so I think it will only get worse.
I know it's only a small crumb but at least the Wigan game is on a Saturday afternoon (technically 12.30 is the afternoon)
-
The issue with TV is that it rules your life but I believe changes should be made at the start of the season and then we would all know where we stand. I realise that they want the more 'attractive' sides on television and at present we fall into that category. Sadly though the changes are made with not a great deal of notice so it's difficult to have any sense of normality around the weekend and football fixtures.
We will never return to all games at 3.00pm on Saturday and mid weeks at 7.30 Tuesdays and Wednesdays and will have to put up with that. However the TV companies don't value attendance in grounds and have little consideration for the supporter. Viewing figures are what matters and they can also sell advertising to make even more money.
Yes we are stuck with it so along with some others I am unable to make some games, both home and away. I also can't even get to watch on television. Yes TV gives a good coverage but for the ardent fan it has almost ruined the game at whatever level.
-
I don't know if I'm being particularly dense tonight but I'm struggling to see the option to purchase my season ticket seat for the cup game, any one care to point me in the right direction?

Where it has your name and account number (top right of screen), click and select Personal Details.
Top right again it should give you the option to click a link to reserve your cup ticket.
Then just follow the instructions.
I've just done mine, no problems.

Totally agree with this and have said many times that the TV games up to January should be arranged in July before the fixtures are released to the public, then the TV games from Jan to May should be released in November. As you say TV companies don't care about fans they want people to watch at home or in pubs.

Just checked the stadium plan for this game and given that it's not a league fixture I was expecting hundreds of tickets left in most sections. Not the case. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of tickets still available (have not counted them) but early signs are it'll be a pretty decent crowd.
-
Don't forget that STH seats are held until 31/12, I expect there will be more green than red when they get released.
That said, Adults £10 and kids for a quid should entice a few more than you'd expect.

That's a good point actually, hadn't thought of that.
OK may be a pooh crowd then lol.
-
It’s going to be a small crowd I think. Especially when you take into account it’s a sell out Saturday then the week after the cup game we have a massive game against Norwich at home.

Wigan will probably bring less than what the did the other day.
-
Chance to progress into 4th round
But after the run of games we will have had going into this one. I would like to see a few changes.
I would rest Gibbs and Phillips as both have a history of muscle injuries. Give Townsend a go and young harper or even field.
If Gayle does have a muscle strain also I imagine he won’t be fit so perhaps a chance for Leko Burke or Edwards to get a game in the wing forward role.
Goal keeper always gets switched for these games also.

Oh dear. The season ticket holder deadline has passed and we have 13,518 tickets available. How very, very sad the decline of the FA Cup.
I estimate a crowd in the region of 13,000. :-[

Get New Year's Eve and day out of the way and sales will pick up a bit.
I'm expecting a low turn out for this one though, especially as we only played them the other day.

Given the views and proximity to the dugout I was thinking of getting a ticket near the half way line in the Halfords for this one.
Always feel a tad claustrophobic and hemmed in there though so the (currently) wide open spaces of the Smethwick it is.

I know chap, my wife used to have a season ticket in the Halfords.

Smoke bombs and flying coins she can handle, but those boilies are a bugger.

Well in advance I know but planning ahead I think we'll see a number of changes for this game. I'm sure Holgate will be given his debut. If Burke hasn't gone on loan by then I can see him lining up up front. Harper may get a start as we rest our first eleven.
Anyone agree or do you think we'll play a full strength team?
Myhill
Holgate Adarabioyo Bartley Townsend
Morrison Harper Brunt
Burke Robson-Kanu Sako
Subs: Johnstone, Dawson, Mears, Livermore, Rodriguez, Barnes, Edwards.

I will never be able to get my head round so called fans wanting the Albion to ever lose! I hope we smash them and then go on a good cup run and I don't get people who don't want that?
-
Of course, I NEVER want us to lose.
Even our second string should be enough to see off other teams.
-
Need to win this to give us some confidence and momentum pre Norwich game. Also some of our youth players need game time.

Don't think your team is far off... a lot of "first teamers" will be rested.
Myhill

That's what I think we will do.
Would like to see sam field get a game. I want to see Harper play to see if he offers any more in midfield then some of the old boys
-
I think we need to be looking to rest a few of the first team players for this one, we're only using the same 14/15 faces so it's always good to try and rest a few of these.
I would go with something like:
Myhill
Mears
Holgate (if the plan is to play Holgate at RB, then slot him there replacing Mears and pop Tosin in CB)
Bartley
Townsend
Field (Hoolahan if Field isn't fit/trusted)
Brunt
Harper
Burke
HRK
Sako
-
I don't want to see Dawson, Hegazi, Gibbs, Barry, Morrison, Brunt, Phillips, Barnes, Gayle or Rodriguez anywhere near the squad for Saturday, they must be protected for Norwich.

Looking forward to seeing what a few of the younger squad members can do but I don't want this to be an exercise in fixture fulfillment. Hoping to see a blend of youth and experience with an eye to winning and being in the hat for the next round, as opposed to simply getting minutes into legs and putting a team out because we have to. I want to see a plan, a team selection which reflects that plan, a good team effort and good use of subs if and when required.

There's really no need to afflict young Holgate with 'Bartley Syndrome' at this stage of his fledgling career.
Collywobbles can be highly contagious and I wouldn't want them to affect him going forward.
-
Bond
Mears Holgate Bartley Townsend
Harper Field
Edwards Sako Brunt
Burke
Doesn't really put Sako in his best position, but I'll live with it. Give Brunt a run out in the only position he can actually play.
-
Myhill
Holgate - Adarbioyo - Bartley - Townsend
Harper - Field
Edwards - Hoolahan - Sako
Burke
Bond, Mears, Howkins, Brunt, Rogers/Tulloch, Leko, HRK
With a view to Holgate coming straight in at RB against Norwich. Although I fully expect him to exclude as many of the young players as he can.
-
I don't like changes for the cup but appreciate as a Championship club with promotion aspirations, it is advisable to give some a rest after the busy Christmas period. Anyone with a knock like Hegazi and Gayle shouldn't be risked and players with histories of muscular injuries such as Gibbs and Phillips should also be given a break. I would also give Barry a rest due to age and the fact that Livermore is out for 3 games after this one.

Why would Brunt need to be protected?
-
Why would Brunt need to be protected?
Important member of the first team squad.
-
Debatable. From what I’ve seen this season he’s offered absolute nothing to the side - even his set pieces don’t deliver any goals anymore. Take Rotherham away, for example, we’re 4-0 up looking well balanced, on comes Brunt and almost instantly the shape of the midfield has gone because he can’t be arsed to press the ball or position himself correctly when out of possession. I would say play him against Wigan in the cup, but he’ll only wrongly reclaim the captain’s armband which will enable him to whinge at the ref and his other ten teammates for the duration of the 90 minutes.
-
He's the club captain, if he plays he's captain, end of story.
-
Goes without saying. So you would genuinely not play Brunt this weekend and start him in our biggest game of the season against Norwich?
-
Goes without saying. So you would genuinely not play Brunt this weekend and start him in our biggest game of the season against Norwich?
Yes.
-
Well let’s hope Darren doesn’t agree with you on that one. Brunt has done nothing to warrant a place on the bench let alone start the game. He won’t be able to deal with Norwich’s high press because he’s too flat footed and above all else we surrender too much possession when he’s in the team. Surely you must see this or do you just spend the whole game watching Rodriguez and Livermore so you can criticise them afterwards?
-
I'm a HUGE Brunty fan but I feel Jacko is going overboard with the loyalty here. I agree with the other takes that Brunt is B-squad nowadays and I'd definitely play him in the FA Cup first and foremost.

-
Really? You knew during that one season in the Championship that he'd never make the step up?
Well obviously not because at the end of that season he was in double figures for goals and assists and was by no means finished. His career was over when he was being shoehorned into a position he could play (out on the wing). Quite similar to the current situation with Brunt.

we should go out with the aim to win the cup every season. couldn't give a toss about resting players and risking league position, had enough of that mindset in the premiership.just go out and go for it. honours mean everything.

If we were in the PL I'd agree, but we've got absolutely no chance with the current squad and head coach and progression would risk hampering our promotion push. I want what is best for the club, and at this moment in time, focusing solely on the league is what is best for us.

A team once won promotion to the top flight and also lifted the FA Cup along the way.
They are still the only team to have achieved this feat.
It would be great if we could do it again, only this time as Champions.

Thanks. TV companies are my biggest gripe these days, they really don’t care a jot for the supporters. Early kick offs aren’t anywhere nearly as bad as Fridays, Mondays and Sundays but it does spoil our day out. We have over an hour of travel, more if the traffic is bad, and usually go for a drink and curry before the game. I can’t eat curries at 11am!!!!

Brummie Road 4,895
West Stand 1,216
Smethwick 1,535
Remaining: 10,638
It'll be a slightly bigger gate than my initial 13,000 estimate. New estimate somewhere between 14,000 and 15,000.
-
I wouldn't start him, but we could put that Morgan Rodgers? on the bench, the young lad whos banging in goals for fun in the youth teams. I think hes only 17 if im right though? May be worth to give him a seat on the bench and a taste of it all.
I thought about that - he was on the bench for a league cup game, after all. But it might be a bit soon.
Then again, if they're good enough, they're old enough.
-
Still don't see the point.
Rewarding him for his progress before he return and to Walsall to show he is very much in the clubs plans going forward. Wonder if Wilson will get game time?
-
Imagine we will leave as many first team players out as we possibly can ahead of Norwich next week, so I can see a could of different options.

Does anyone know if the match is on TV? Is so what channel is it on?
it is on TV that's why it's at 12.30, however I can't find any channel info. At the time it was said it was moved because of an "overseas TV rights deal" the FA signed.

Just about covers it........ not on UK channels as it's an overseas broadcast, tune into MotD for highlights though.
Each club broadcast on the overseas deal gets the princely sum of £50,000 for our/their troubles.

COYB 8) .
I'm not expecting to see any of our loanees playing, & probably not too many of the first team. The experience will probably come from Mears, Hoolahan et al, & I'm pretty sure there will be games for our youngsters flirting around the first team.
-

It looks like our game is being broadcast in the Balkans on SportKlub, and in Dennark on TV3 sport.

The mrs has got me a ticket - then reminded me it was a half 12 kick off !
Trying it out in the East Stand for a change

Enjoy the day, watching footie live is a great experience.
Just make sure you wrap up warm, it can get really cold in the East Stand. Don't forget, The Hawthorns is the highest elevated ground in the country.

I will be there, hope it’s worthwhile.

I don't want to see Dawson, Hegazi, Gibbs, Barry, Morrison, Brunt, Phillips, Barnes, Gayle or Rodriguez anywhere near the squad for Saturday, they must be protected for Norwich.
Not fussed on Brunt but totally agree on the rest. Norwich should define the team selection for this and we especially need to see Sako get a full 90 minutes.
-
The team looks very youthful. Not 100% sure on the balance but good to see some get an opportunity again.
No clear striker. It may be that Sako and Leko are being deployed as wide forwards with Hoolahan behind.
-
That team is interesting. Nobody on the bench to pull us out the mire.
I’m quite surprised as it’s a good chance to get back to winning ways. Definitely expected some chances and youth but not didn’t expect quite that much!
-
7 of the starting 11 have been signed this season which is interesting.

On my way up now. For 5 quid can’t go wrong

Looks exciting. Would love to be able to see the match.

All Wigan so far, header missed from a corner after a good save by Bond
-
Wigan the far better side so far. Bond saved 1 on 1 from Grigg then Dunkley headed over from resulting corner.
Barltey just looks so un-athletic. like hes constantly running in quicksand.

Holgate caught out badly for that Grigg chance.

you could say the same for Sako
-
Sako looks absolutely awful again. Tried to give him a chance but I think his legs have gone and his lack of a footballing brain mean he really shouldn't be playing for us again.
-
Come on you young baggie boys
-
West Bromwich Albion 1 - 0 Wigan Athletic
Sako
-
An in/out moment.
-
and Sako scores
-
sako!!!
played much better the last 10-15 mins.
Great play by Brunt tbf
-
Brilliant play by Brunty, powerful header tbf from Sako keeper couldn't keep it out. Looking confident now.
-
I’ve liked the look of Hoolahan in that first half. He’s been busy and always makes himself available for the player with the ball and some good passes.
Bartley is having a steady game imo
Overall, I’m pleased with the team display thus far COYB!!!!
-
Bartley looks so much better on the right. A couple of great long balls from him. Sako looking better and Holgate looks like he will improve our first team and offer a bit more than Tosin when attacking. Hoolahan and Brunt running the show. Three youngsters growing into the game - hopefully we will see more from them in the second half.
-
We played well that half. Harper looked powerful and good on the ball, no idea why Moore won't play him more often in the league, looks much natural in central midfield than Brunt and has the legs to get around the pitch and to break the lines.
Leko loves lively on the ball, again he should have had opportunities off the bench in the league, particularly when we have been chasing games in our last two with a lack of pace in the team.
Brunt has overhit a few free kicks for a change, no idea what's happened to his radar, seems to have gone. Tends to get decent delivery 1/3 these days.
Overalll we knocked the ball around well and looked comfortable after the goal. Team has more pace than the recent first team and looks a bit more dynamic, albeit in a game with less pressure.

Generally speaking I think Brunt is now a bench player for us at best, but I do think you are being a bit harsh. The first goal followed his great free kick which was saved for a corner which came back out to him and after quick feet he set up the goal for Sako. I think he has played better than either Harper or Field who I agree have great potential. I want them to outplay Brunt second half.
-
Completely controlled the first half. Good mix of youth and experience, Brunt and Hoolahan running the show. Harper pick of the youngsters for me.
Sako has been pretty poor, even his goal he did well to give the keeper a chance. Holgate looks a prospect at right back, although Wigan have been pretty woeful.

I only switched on after the goal so not seen his free kick, so you might have a point. I've seen a reply of the goal. Poor corner from him and then a perfect second delivery whilst being on the left, where he should be, which probably sums him up. Bit his and miss these days. I don't particular rate Field, has no pace, is neat and tidy, but doesn't offer much.
-
Rekeem Harper has done himself justice today
He looks the part to me
-
all over them now.
Sako has 1 on 1 saved then great clearance off the line by defender.
Leko through but misses target.
-
Should be at least 3 up now. After Sako was cleared off the line Leko dragged one wide and Holgate headed over. Playing nicely right now - liking the way Harper and Leko settling.
-
Harper looks like he has huge potential. He is trying do to do more second half it seems to me. Word for Bond too who looks good on the ball.
-
I like Leko, good impact sub type of player.
-
Wigan coming back into it now, we should have killed the game off.
Young lads have played well, Edwards has just come on for Hoolahan
-
Creating some excellent chances but not finishing. Holgate Harper and Leko all looking excellent 2nd half. Frustrating really given our league subs are always geriatrics. Hopefully they can finish the game strong and make a case for some league action.
Wigan having a good spell at the minute. We need another goal.

Leko off Kanu on, FFS. Can't even give him 90 minutes in a cup match. Kids looks disappointed, had just skinned the Wigan fullback.

Shame Leko played the wrong ball at the end there. Totally destroyed his defender but pulled back to Edwards instead of sliding across to Harper who would have had a tap-in. Can’t believe he’s been subbed for HRK.
Lot of tired legs out there.

Yeah exactly, he need's the time on the pitch to learn in these sorts of games, and would have been ideal against the tiring opposition players. Brunt who is 15 years his senior, is still on, got booked and is slow. As stupid as being 4-0 at Rotherham and not giving any of them 10 minutes. Morrison replacing Harper now, who had cramp / or a knock he picked up going on a lung busting run, the sort of type that our old guard in the middle aren't capable off.

FT 1-0, well done lads.
-
Good result
-
Good result that is considering
Thought the young lads performed really well today. Harper in particular was brilliant
Holgate started well but faded by 60/65 mins but can see him coming in as main RB
Happy with that and great to see our young guns getting game time
-
My thoughts from the stream
-Harper looks fantastic and needs a chance in the Championship now Livermore is suspended
-Field has gone backwards
-Leko looked very lively and a decent option from the bench
-Holgate better than Tosin at RB
-Bartley is better as a RCB than anywhere near a back 3
-Sako is off the pace and doesn't look fit but has that Tchoyi factor
-Hoolahan is very tidy and probably deserves more time on the pitch
-Bond in some ways looks safer than Johnstone
-
Wembley here we commmmmmmme get in there, nice one lads great to see the youngsters on the pitch :D : 8) ;D
-
Good game overall, enjoyed that. We’ve got some good kids in the squad and it’s good for them to get a run out.
Every time I see Harper play I’m impressed with him, and he was my man of the match again today. Won the majority of things in the middle, great passing and energy.
Leko has his moments but clearly isn’t the finished product. Needs a loan somewhere to get some experience of playing in a first team.
Field was steady and kept things ticking over.
The keeper Bond seemed confident and his kicking was very good. Made a good save in the first half too.
Edwards also looks to have potential and held the ball up well after he came on.
Brunt and Hoolahan both quieter in the second half but did what was needed.
Thought Tosin looked much more assured not at right back, however I think Holgate will be taking the right back position anyway, so Tosin is likely to be backup to Hegazi and Dawson now.
Wigan were very poor and offered nothing for 89 minutes of the game, but we were professional and could have won by 3 if we finished a bit better.
On to the next round and hopefully a decent draw.
On to the negatives, Townsend wasn’t great in my opinion and we probably won’t see much of him this season. Sako, even though he scored was poor. Needed taking off as he couldn’t even control the ball by the end. The goal was lucky that it ended up even going in.

Good comments - not much to add.
Thought 3-1 would have been a fair reflection of the game and the chances. Sako unlucky not to get a second - superb clearance by the defender. Lots of nice footwork but his crossing was poor and he tired by 70 mins.
Harper superb - must get some game time.
Leko as good as I’ve seen him - still way off the finished article but needs game time.
Holgate looks class.
-
Very cold!
Thought after a typically slow start we played really well considering the changes to personnel. Our play orchestrated by the excellent Chris Brunt in midfield was very quick one touch passing. Rekeem Harper was brilliant and I now concur deserves Championship game time. Sam Field was steady and you can see why he's struggling to break through, he doesn't to anything really well, he's not remotely eye catching .
Up top I was very impressed with Jon Leko who I had almost written off, he was the pick of the forwards. Hoolahan was busy and Sako unpredictable but neither are the answer.
At the back Townsend was surprisingly good and Holgate looks the part. Tosin marshalled Bartley well and aside from one pass straight out of play and one ridiculous air kick in our box he also looked better on the right side of the two.
Our reserves are better than Wigan's and in Leko and Harper we have some potential to incorporate into the group going forward.
Into the hat. Boing Boing.
-
Really happy with that - should have been more than 1-0.
First half was often sluggish but when we grew into the game we played really well. Ball was moved very quickly through midfield and defence.
Sako was awful.
Jonathan Leko was superb - Wigan players were frightened to go near him. Really good performance.
Rekheem Harper - the future of this football club. Such maturity and physique to his play.
That for me was the stand out - seeing two home grown products play very well - the standing ovation they both received was fully deserved.
-
Uninspiring game between two teams that didn't seem bothered if they won it or not.
First half they started the better before we woke up, nice to see Brunt putting a cross in and a goal coming from it as thats what he can do. Hoolahan woke up after he moved out of the centre, must be the smallest centre forward i've ever seen as thats where he spent much of his time to no effect. Second half Brunt tired and disappeared, Harper the pick of the midfield whereas the club for me have done a job on Field and he is not the player he was last season so simple thing is stop wetting him about and send him on loan to get a bit of love for the game back.
Bartley and Tosin both had their best games for us and along with Holgate defended well, Townsend still looks a division above his capabilities but hopefully will come with experience.
Leko still struggling with decision making and Sako is an enigma so far, too many tricks and not enough substance.
-
But I thought our squad was awful? I thought there was no way the young players would cope and Darren had no option but to play players out of position? I thought it was a miracle that he'd got us to 4th?
Seriously though, he got the team selection and subs spot on today. Result was irrelevent but nice for the youngsters to get a win. I hope that Moore has learnt more about some of those players today, some of them deserve a chance in the league.
Holgate straight in at RB against Norwich, would love to see Harper given a chance while Livermore is suspended.
-
Just got home. Some parts of the game were like a testimonial, down to walking pace. But there were plenty of moments of excitement. One thing was clear to me, and that is we have very little creativity in the team. We always went backwards as the first option. I remember two clear moments where Brunt and Field had the ball, facing away from goal with lots of time to turn, but they hoofed it backwards. This has to change.
Wigan added some early pressure and won about 5 corners in the opening 20 mins, but it didn't come to much. After the goal the game seemed to come to life a bit and Wigan upped the tempo but I think they lacked the overall quality to truly test us.
I think Holgate was superb. Read the ball well, classy touch and not afraid to tackle. It was disappointing that he kept making runs down the right and was in acres of space but the ball rarely went to him. Surely this is tactical, because I don't see why they would ignore him so much. Hopefully he will be a regular at right back as he looks a class above anything we have there at the moment.
Field looked more comfortable in midfield and I thought Bartley had a fairly decent game to be fair. Made a few decent challenges and played two good diagonal balls out to the left wing. Another good runner was Hoolahan, sadly lacking the pace, but didn't stop chasing the ball all game.
On a negative note, I know Sako scored the winning goal, but he offered nothing to the rest of the game. I thought he was a willing runner, but was very poor overall. His touch was diabolical and he was slow to release the ball when he had a good opportunity to. Also ran offside a few times when he was looking along the line. He had the chance to show DM his capabilities, but on today's performance I wouldn't have him anywhere near the starting XI.
The young guns did well but their lack of experience showed with some of the balls into the box. They'll come good though in time.
A better team would have destroyed us today, which shows the gulf in class between our starting XI and the second XI. Our squad seems to be either very young and inexperienced or very old with no pace or creativity, which is alarming if we have any injuries or suspensions, or we lose Barnes.
-
I can't believe people were impressed with Leko. I thought he was awful on the ball. His final ball is always poor. The shot from his golden chance was dire. He was the worst player on the pitch for me.
Overall I thought we did OK. The defence were rarely threatened by a poor Wigan attack. The midfield three I thought all did well, that was the best area of our team today. Complimented each others games well. Can't help feel one or two are going slightly O.T.T. with Harper but he did fine, as did Field and Brunt I thought first half hour was superb.
Sako looked a bit sharper but I'm not convinced by him. Hoolahan is a neat and tidy footballer but has no strength and no pace and can't hurt the opposition.
Holgate had a mixed bag of a debut for me, some good stuff, some not so good. Townsend as usual plenty of energy and effort.
Bond had one save to make and made it. Looked comfortable with the ball at his feet.
Decent enough performance overall but what a dead atmosphere. F.A. Cup games never used to be like that. :(
-

I agree with just about all of this, if Harper doesn't get a few starts soon I think he will start to look elsewhere for his next contract and be the next Roofe - Leko's got something but needs to play to keep on improving, so loan him out.
Sako looked liked a fat old PE teacher making up the numbers with the kids, but he took his goal well, you can see on the camera angle from behind the goal he drifts back away from his man, gets him wondering then nips back in front of him neatly. I think he can give us a useful option for the rest of the season if he gets a bit fitter and gets his feet a bit "softer" ;)
-

I would pretty much agree with all of that.
I would add Harper needs a new contract
Field has defiantly regressed needs a loan deal to league 1 to get 20 games under his belt.
Leko impressed me today. Definitely should be option from bench if not get him out on loan too. Good to see Edwards get minutes also
Holgate comfy at rb tosin looked far better at centre back
Shout out to Bartley who had a good game and played some raking passes.
Hoolahan showed he's a very good player or was. Shame his legs are gone.
Bond better at the football from the back. Made a very good stop early on.
Sako being like tchoyi is most accurate thing here.
We won, next round. Harper & field 90 mins. Holgate solid unspectacular debut. Leko showed flashes of class. Edwards got minutes. We kept a clean sheet. Hopefully we are rewarded with a kind draw.
-
Echo most, Harper was very good
Holgate didn't break sweat and looked very competent
Bartley/Tosin both looked calm and did the job well
Field good without being dynamic, but that looked to be the instructions
Bond would be first team starting for me
Sako.....terrible first touch for a professional , someone should talk to him, concentrate on control first, get your bloody silly hair cut and no point crossing to no one LOOK UP
Brunt ....makes me bloody angry , every free kick, every corner , which means most of the time there is a big stop in play whilst he meanders across to the wrong side....then the clapping by the crowd....then the failed or overhit delivery......then he's out of place leaving us exposed .....and a stupid petulant yellow card
Townsend....maybe slightly harsh, generally he was quite good but will not go forward pasta man , every time turns in/back.......he has pace, can cross ....should be more confident
Overall job done , maybe 1-2 that may feel that they deserve to be in the league 18 against Norwich ....

Echo most, Harper was very good
Holgate didn't break sweat and looked very competent
Bartley/Tosin both looked calm and did the job well
Field good without being dynamic, but that looked to be the instructions

Don't get me wrong I don't think Brunt should be in the starting 11 and hopefully playing the 90 yesterday means he won't start against Norwich, but for the first game in ages his corners were actually okay and he nearly scored from a freekick, only a good save stopped it going in the top corner, also a very good delivery for Sako's goal. Agree about the stupid yellow but he can't tackle to save his life and often gives away stupid fouls.
Thought Leko was poor at first but grew into the game and was good second half. Field was tidy without being spectacular but Harper was the pick not only of the youngsters but of the midfield. Hopefully he'll get game time for Livermore.
Townsend started slowly and seemed reluctant to get forward for the first 20 mins or so but once he started to get forward I thought he was okay. Holgate looked very assured and had a good debut, unlucky not to score. Adabarioyo and Bartley looked okay and I noticed Bartley talking to Holgate first half at a throw in; getting him to move into a better position.
We shpuld have won by more than 1 and maybe if we'd started with an actual forward rather than a midfielder leading the attack we might have done. Like others, I thought Sako was pretty poor. He took his goal well enough but lacked quality when crossing and needs to understand that doing multiple step-overs achieves very little.
Edwards looked good when he came on and I'd like to see him get more game time from the bench.
Glad we're through and I hope for a decent draw in the next round. IF Liverpool turn up tomorrow night we may well be the only West Midlands club left in it.

On reflection (and watching the highlights again) yes, one corner and one free kick were ok
But when we have corners on the opposite side and have players forward, the element of surprise/speed is gone whist we wait for him to get his backside over the wrong side....takes time to get his breath....always always cleans the mud of his right boot twice....then poor delivery....I'd have thought phillips, sako,Morrison,Barry,Leko could (or should) be able to hit dead balls ?

whilst i for probably the first time ever accept the team selection for yesterday....if we take that attitude football as we know it is dead (or at least for me and my generation)

How many yesterday would start our first 11 (in the position they played and didn't need practice)?

Having games rearranged could give us the luxury of knowing results in advance depends on your stance. If you don't dream that Albion could win the fa cup that loses half the appeal of football

Moore made 9 changes, the cup run isn’t going to effect the first team because it will always be the second string that plays the cup games

Why?
Our second string gave a good account of themselves, theirs just didn't.
IMO yesterday's result should improve our confidence in the squad.

Leeds have now lost three on the bounce, form, momentum can quickly disappear.

The potential for a fixture pile up at the end of the season if we progress well in the cup. It might be the 2nd string playing the cup games at the moment but it would still be the 1st team playing lots of games in quick succession at the end of the season.
I'd also argue that the further we go in the cup the more likely it is that more first teamers will start.
