Artim Sakiri on this day 17 years ago. Still recall it clear as anything from my then seat in the Brummie.

Screamer v Burnley.

https://www.westbromnews.co.uk/2020/08/20/fantastic-deal-exclusive-kevin-phillips-blown-away-by-west-brom-transfer/

Reading Kevin Phillips regular comments on WestBromNews, he sounds like quite an Albion fan at heart. Always has very positive comments on the Albion, even though I expect it has to be hyped a bit for the column.
He obviously played for a fair number of clubs, but it wouldn't surprise me that he feels closest attached to us and maybe Sunderland. Maybe, there's a future job waiting for him in some form, perhaps on the coaching staff?

One of the biggest mistakes Peace made wasn't giving him a 2 year deal. We went down by 4 points that season and he'd have been the difference. Oh well...

My recollection was Mowbray saying he didn’t want to extend KP’s contract

Not how I remember it. Club reticent to offer a straight 2 year deal. Mowbray had little choice in the matter.

I recall reading Mowbray suggesting his, KP’s age was against giving him a two year contract and KP wanted two. So, it could have been KP’s decision.

IIRC it was a one year deal with year two activated after 20 appearances or so.

Thats what the club offered and SKP said no and walked. A real shame, really under-rated player IMO, should be held in the same regard as shearer / andy cole et al

On the plus side he didn't concede a single goal as a result of an inswinging cross or a relatively straightforward shot from distance in a competitive fixture (for obvious reasons  ;) ).

Former Academy Keeper Jack Rose has signed for Walsall permanently from Southampton, looks like he’ll be their number 2.

Smashing fella, met him when he was running a pub in Coventry (The Rising Sun I think?). So long ago, way too young!

Yes, it was the Rising Sun. I had some great times with Jim while he was at the Albion, we would also go out with Cantello (my favourite player at the time) and Asa. Happy days

Charles "Chuck" Drury has passed away

R.I.P. Chuck, enjoyed watching you play growing up, wing half in his day, but in today's football would be a defensive midfielder

Sad to here that. Lived next door to his parents in Darlaston when I was a kid, and he always had a word when me and my Dad stood at the half way line, before the Rainbow Stand was built. Must have been about 1960, so I would have been about 7
