Pepe Reina to Villa is done.

Outstanding signing.

Decent signing maybe, but outstanding? Not at the age of 37.

Pepe Reina at 37 is roughly the equivalent of signing a 32 year old defender. He has had 13 games in the last 18 months and just one game this season. This is not the same player that left Liverpool he is a significant downgrade on Heaton but might be the best available option such is the nature of the January window.

I see Smith is talking up his leadership qualities which I always think is compensation for the fact that he isn't the player he once was. On this subject I note that he managed to get himself sent off from the bench for Milan earlier this season a calming influence in a crisis eh?

In the same school year as Foster, who is far better than Heaton. Reina is another level up on Ben.

The key difference here and it is an important one to remember with older players is that Reina has not been playing regularly and Foster has. Reina might have been ahead of both at his peak but his peak has long gone and any decline will have been accelerated by inactivity. I am not saying he won't be good for Villa but you can't assume that he will be.

Promising debut from Drinkwater. Nice to see him rekindle the excellent partnership he had with Mahrez at Leicester.

Only a complete numpty like smith would start drinkdriver based on what he was in his last season at Leicester and totally ignoring his form since and the fact he only played twice for Burnley.

31 now and playing in Turkey. How many deep lying midfielders do they need? Not fussed if they do get him.

I sincerely hope not. If they drop I'd prefer to see them keep dropping further as I couldn't be doing with seeing them bounce back again. They were largely bloody insufferable around here after beating Derby.

Aston Villa have made a £4.2m bid to sign former Chelsea and Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge, 30, from Turkish club Trabzonspor.

Hope he does as well for them as he did for us

If - and as we know it's a very big if - he can be kept fit then it's cracking signing. Super player. Shame we only got to see him for about half an hour.

I'm still convinced that time he walked off the pitch after about ten minutes 'injured' he'd just decided he didn't fancy it and was going home

Why do people invite these kind of scenarios?  Like why on earth wouldn't he have wanted to play?  Why would he wait 10 mins into the game?  Why not just not sign?  Or not start the game?  Or pull up injured in the warm up?

I just hope Jacko's got the good grace to stay away from this thread and any predictions regarding a Viler defeat tonight. The massive Jonah  :-X .
