Disagree about blatant penalty, referee was in great position and saw Will.(I gotta feeling). Am  going to ground before minimal contact occurred.  VAR looked at it and agreed not a clear and obvious error. Pundits want a penalty and want controversy with VAR, good for ratings and talking points but they also show their ignorance when they don't know the substitution rules nor the ABBA rules (which clearly I don't either...hence the edit  :-[)
Dion Dublin though, thumbs up.

You have summed up pretty much how I felt about the Willian "penalty"...looked to me like the contact happened because he was already falling down..for me Graham Scott and the VAR person got it right.

I think the ref and VAR got the penalty decision right. He was already in the process of throwing himself to the ground before he made contact with the boot. No pen, nothing to see. Good to see a ref dishing out cards for diving and mouthing off, let's hope this starts a trend.

Thought the ref' did well overall.

Jermaine Jenas was getting on my nerves last night with his 'expert' opinions though.

Will fully admit I haven't read the criteria for awarding penalties in a while.

But I very much doubt there are sections stating:

1. A penalty will be awarded if you fall down like a sack of fecal matter when touched

2. Stare at the ref' with incredulity if deception fails

3. Otherwise strong legs capable of carrying your weight every day in training and for approximately of 6.5 miles per game suddenly give out prompting instantaneous collapse

4. Jermaine Jenas says one should be awarded therefore it must be so

Hate watching games on TV, think I'll do it with the volume down in future  ;D .

It doesn't matter how many resources you have.
If you don't know how to use them, they will never be enough.

I've never minded Jenas too much until last night but his comments were ridiculous, consistently ridiculous.

The worst thing is he thinks he's really clever yet still is apoplectic when the VAR doesn't reverse the decision despite it being made abundantly clear that it has to be clear and obvious.

For the record, I thought Willian initiated the contact and that VAR were correct not to overrule.

Cricket has similar with "umpire's call" if it's marginal. It really isn't that difficult to fathom is it but some pundits are determined to make it seem that way.

Very much agreed, and even if he didn't initiate contact I'd be amazed if there was enough there to warrant instantaneous collapse.

It makes me laugh when so called experts declare that running at top speed means only the slightest touch will bring you down. bull! Excuse the language. I remember Cyrille playing. Enough said.

Players feel a touch now and go down. Doesn't mean it's a foul.

And how many times do you see people go sprawling when brushing shoulders in everyday situations, like out shopping in the High Street, rolling over with the shopping bag/trolly? And these are topfit sportsmen.

As a former referee I am convinced they practice going to ground. I hate to use the word, but most players are CHEATS. The slightest touch near the head and they roll around holding their face as if they had been punched. I watch rugby a lot and if they reacted the way they do in a rugby match they would be laughed at.
In rugby the referee is God. All players who speak to him call him SIR!!

Be nice to get a Coventry/Wigan at home after a tough away tie last round.

No doubt it will be Man City away
