They still played well. Tottenham were rather fortunate. The own goal was ridiculous.

I must admit i didn't watch the game. QPR i am sure will give us the biggest test at home yet but the fact they only have 2 points i am sure says something.Superstars playing has individuals and not gelling

Been two decent games on the Super Sunday to be honest. Thought Man United for large parts were very poor against Liverpool. No surprise, however, the after match chanting by a minority of United fans in response to a gesture from a Liverpool fan appears to be the talking point. In response to a Liverpool fan apparently doing an aeroplane gesture, United fans retreated with "Where's your famous Munich song", "always the victims, it's never your fault", and "murderers, murderers". Liverpool can call themselves unfortunate not to have taken something from the game but United did what they do best.

In the other game, Arsenal drew with Man City. Impressed with Arsenal. Certainly a solidness to their performance although City weren't at their best. Disappointed with Gervinho but equally impressed with Santi Cazorla who has adapted very well to English football. Still don't think Arsenal can win the league but they should have enough to be inside the top four.

A 'minority' of fans from both clubs have been a disgrace today. No matter who started it they have both brought a bit of shame on their clubs. The Liverpool fans who went on Twitter giving abuse to Mark Halsey and his family are the lowest of the low and anyone who tries to excuse them needs to have a look in the mirror.

First time i've seen the Liverpool - Man Utd action on MOTD 2 just now. Here's a couple of thoughts:

How Evans stayed on is beyond me; you can't send one off and not the other. Strange decision. As for the penalty, it's top dive from Valencia. There was minimal contact on his back - nowhere near enough to knock him off his feet - but once again cheating is rewarded.

I don't know whether I read too much into this at the time, but I thought it was extremely distasteful of the Liverpool fans to chant "you're not fit to referee" to Mark Halsey considering what he's been through.

In retrospect, it's not a chant they'll be too proud about singing. I don't think they would have realised the connotations at the time. That said, it was a horrific officiating display which deserves some kind of recognition; something about being in Ferguson's pocket may have been more apt.

I don't think Evans was a red. His non-tackling foot is completely away from Shelvey's body - so I wouldn't say it was two footed. He uses the side of tackling foot, he has eyes firmly on the ball and seems in control. Shelvey's red is obvious. I don't think either appeal for pens were justified.

Refereeing is so hard these day I have sympathy for all of them (apart from Foy  ;D)

Its just a chant that everyone sings about every referee who they think are being biased. Nothing to do with anything else at all, half of them probably didnt even know the ref let alone what he has been through.

Perhaps you're right and I read to much into it at the time, but I thought it was incredibly insensitive made even worse by some knobhead and his quite frankly, disgusting tweets.

There is a still image of the tackle and its quite clear evans went in two footed with his studs showing.

spot on for me, dont think evans was worthy of a red, and suarezes reputation means he aint going to get a penalty too easily. that said, no contact was needed as evra was going to ground already

Liverpool did well alright, but never got the sense that they were going to ratchet up a big score. Their defence is decent but do seem to be playing themselves into trouble quite a bit this season with some sloppy turnovers.
As for Shelvey's red, bad challenge I thought, though my opinion on whether it was red or yellow swayed with the different angles they shown. However, he should have been on a yellow in any case for a bad challenge in the first quarter of an hour of the game. HAd it happened fifteen minutes later that challenge would have been a clear yellow.

towards the ball though, not at the player. think halsey did alright yesterday, just valencia went down too easily but johnson made contact which was a cardinal sin. i also think rvp shouldve gone for his challenge late in the second half

A United fans viewpoint in response to yesterdays after match incidents:

http://redflagflyinghigh.com/2012/09/blogs/the-truth-about-todays-anfield-chants

Now I’m never, ever one to take the “I have a major opinion on something, quick, make a blog post!” action, but today, I have to make an exception.

Earlier this afternoon, I visited Anfield (as an away fan) and was overwhelmed by the occasion, and the way Liverpool fans carried themselves before the game. As our entrance was on Anfield Road, we felt obliged to pay our respects at the JFT96 memorial, simply because of the occasion, and because, like us, these fans were once away fans, but unfortunately – they never came home…

The pre-match tributes to the 96 were also brilliant, and very well done by Liverpool FC, I’m almost certain the friends and families of the victims would have been touched by the goings on, on and off the pitch before the first whistle.

I really felt a strong tension before the game, I felt like the whole world was watching us as United fans, and waiting for us to do something wrong. We didn’t. We performed impeccably (maybe not on the pitch – that’s a different story, though a win’s a win) and we were right behind our players in full voice.

Obviously the usual songs were sang by both sets of fans, “banter” if you will, about life on opposite sides of the Mersey, but that was inevitable. This is arguably the biggest rivalry in all of football, after all.

Then came the end of the game. Between 15-20 Liverpool fans stayed behind to taunt the United fans, by doing airplane gestures with their arms, and singing Munich songs. Although they were a small minority, it provoked some United fans to react by chanting “Murderers”. Now I cannot stress enough how vile I find this chant, and any chant about a human disaster (including Munich, Heysel and obviously Hillsborough), but because there are fans who retaliate with such a chant, I find it astounding that Sky Sports showed United fans singing “murderers” as well as “always the victim…” but didn’t put into context. This just adds fuel to an already ferocious fire between these two sets of fans.

“Always the victim…” was sang toward Liverpool fans who were being escorted out of the stadium by police, but were fighting against them as if they’d done nothing wrong – hence “never your fault” this was in no way aimed toward Hillsborough, and it never is – in recent months it has been sang toward Luis Suarez, but that’s another can of worms that doesn’t need to be opened here.

The Sky camera that captured such chants was from the other side of the ground, so the Liverpool fans cannot even be seen, but if you were to consult CCTV at Anfield, you would find that what I am writing is true – I’m not one to lie.

The reason I have written this blog post, isn’t to clear United’s name – the fans that sang “Murderers” were in the wrong, there is no doubt about that whatsoever, but it is to put it into context for those people that weren’t there, as the way it has been depicted on Sky Sports News this evening, it looks like United fans just randomly broke into song.

A reported 6 arrests were made this evening with regards to singing about a human tragedy – all Liverpool fans. Think of that what you will, but I was at the ground today, and hearsay from folk who weren’t present is what is going to make this situation spiral out of control, instead of blowing over, and being forgotten about.

Today was about football. It was also about 96 families finally getting justice. There is no need for anymore animosity, and I personally feel these chants should be treated the same way as racist and homophobic chants are now treated – zero tolerance. If you are racist on or off the pitch there is no question about it, you will be banned. That is how these chants need to be treated. It is the only way they’ll stop. This isn’t “banter” this is human tragedy being mocked and it needs to be put to an end.

Impressive performance by Spurs. 2-0 now. United look well past it tbh, too many oldies that can't keep up with the fast, mobile and technical Spurs players. I can see why AVB dropped Van der Vaart for faster more athletic players.

Man United are still relying on a 37 and 38 year old to do the buisness, AC Milan had the same problem with Nesta,Paldini and so on, On this showing their be lucky to finish in the top 4. If I was Fergie I would retire and give a younger person a go like Moyes or someone else.

Tottenham are tiring now, and their defence isn't exactly super solid.
