General Football & Sports / Football podcasts

During lockdown I discovered a football podcast called under the cosh. I've got to say its brilliant. The Andy Johnson is one of the best podcasts. Lots of great stories from his time at the Albion.

Its a great insight into footballers. The transfer dealings, pre season trips, different managers and players.

I'd also recommend the Mark Crossley one great stories about Cloughy he even does a great impression of him too.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Best moment of 2013
« on: December 28, 2013, 08:02:21 PM »
Not to many great games for us in the calender year of 2013. The win at Liverpool was one of the big highlights as we were on a very poor run before that game. It was a real smash and grab win. The 5-5 game on the last day of the season was also very special especially as we were 5-2 down at one point too. My best moment is the win at Old Trafford it wasn't just the fact that we won, but the manner in which we won the game, we outplayed them which very few teams will do at their place.

The comeback against Villa was quite good as was the impressive win at Southampton and the two draws this season against Chelsea and Arsenal.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Worst moment in the Premier Leauge

The 4-0 away defeat at Sunderland just before Christmas.
Fulham scoring in the last minute after we played so well and should have won the game
The last Palace and Norwich goals also, I was convinced we would go down.
Losing at home to Stoke 08/09 at home, reminded me of the Swansea game a few weeks ago.

Lawro has been given a reduced role on MOTD as he will on be on MOTD2 occasionally. About time too, him and Hansen were so boring with there so called knowledge of the top four clubs and there typical lack of knowledge about the rest of the Premiership.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Albion freeze matchday prices

http://www.wba.co.uk/news/article/freeze-on-match-ticket-prices-938912.aspx

Well done Albion, first the seasons tickets now the match day prices have been frozen. This is a great way of keeping the attendances strong and keeping plenty of young kids coming to the games as for ten of our home games its only £10 and for the other nine  games there is a £5 increase. However dont really think that the Newcastle and Everton games should be £39.

West Bromwich Albion FC / 2013/14 Fixtures
« on: June 09, 2013, 04:05:12 PM »
Usually the newly promoted sides seem to have a decent start with the early momentum that they have. I wouldn't mind one of the really big teams as sometimes on the opening day they don't always do as well. I would be happy if we got Arsenal at home first game. In our last four premiership seasons we have had Arsenal,Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Stats
« on: May 24, 2013, 08:19:24 AM »
53 goals scored this season, from only eleven different players.
Eight clean sheets this season, which is pretty good.
Our average attendance this season is 25,360 which I think is an increase from last season.

28 points picked up at home which is much better than last season and that is also over half the points available at home and 21 away which although is fewer than last season its close to the total amount of what QPR got all together.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Greatest Comebacks
« on: May 23, 2013, 10:29:42 PM »
Following the amazing 5-5 draw on Sunday.

I have been thinking about other great comebacks that I can remember. West Ham away back in 2003 was a great comeback, pretty shell shocked that we were 3-0 down after only half an hour and even more shocked that we turned the game around. Hulse scored a great goal that day.

I suppose the great escape was a really good comeback as we looked dead and buried at the start of March but that great win over Birmingham gave us hope and we went on to have a good end to the season and do enough to stay up.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Goal and Game of the season
« on: May 19, 2013, 08:54:35 PM »
My goal of the season goes to Morrisons goals against QPR, fantastic run and cross from Long and a really good bullet header from Morrison. Game of the season well today's 5-5 something that I have never experienced a great open end to end game, and in reality it could have been more than 5-5. A great way to end what has been a great season.

West Bromwich Albion FC / What a season
« on: May 19, 2013, 06:27:08 PM »
Today caps of a brilliant season.

I was a bit worried about Clarke at the start of the season but looking back over the thirty eight games what a job he and the players have done.

Seven points from the first three games against three of the top seven was a great start. After a blip against Fulham we responded very well with seven points from the next three games and two very unlucky defeats to Man City and Newcastle. But four fantastic wins followed and on the 24th of November after 13 games we were third in the table. From then till February was dissapointing however some key players getting injured was a big cause in that poor run but three great wins over Liverpool, Sunderland and Swansea and a very good away point at Stoke.

Once we got to forty points some very abject performances against West Ham, Norwich and Wigan. However a great away win at Southampton and one of the best comebacks ever today.

Foster been excellent made so many great saves this season
Olsson and Mcauley for the vast majority of the season they have been very good and Mcauley has scored some important goals
Mulumbu and Yacob like the previous too they have formed an excellent partnership.
Lukaku 17 goals in his first Premiership season has been fantastic. Long to get into double figures with injuries and not always playing is a great achievement too.

Bring on next August.

West Bromwich Albion FC / 13/14 season target.
« on: May 12, 2013, 10:42:14 PM »
Fifty points would be the target that I would want us to aim to next season. With some additions to the squad its very much achievable we have nearly achieved and still may do with this group of players. We are now an established Premiership club three seasons and three top ten finishes so the next level must be to get to fifty points. We are no longer a club that is been talked about as one who could go down. I also think by Clarke setting this target then results and performance in recent weeks may not happen next season.

Just been looking at there fixtures, in April they played sixteen games they played Saturday and Sunday too. Then in May, they have played on the 3rd, 4th, 5th and they also play today. Madness to thing how many games they have played.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Progression
« on: April 28, 2013, 09:12:17 PM »
We have broken our records point tally, with still four games to go and I would say seven points are still within reach for us. Also we have wont he most games ever in the Premiership

From last season we have scored more goals and its looks like we will concede fewer too, as we have let in eight less than last season.

I would say that from twelve months on we look even more solid at the back, due to the major impact that Yacob has made, Jones improving his game.

Going forward we have had two strikers that are now into double figures first time this has happened to us whilst we have been in the Premiership

General Football & Sports / Chester FC back in the conference
« on: April 10, 2013, 04:15:41 PM »
Chester FC are back in the conference after three straight promotions as champions. We are now are fan owned club and in 2010 we had nothing. Neil young has now won four promotions in a row one with Cowlyn Bay and three with Chester We are getting bigger crowds than what we have been getting when we were in back in the Football league. We haven't lost a league game since Boston away back in September. It was Boston who we beat at home in front of nearly four thousand.

General Football & Sports / James Anderson
« on: February 19, 2013, 04:38:49 PM »
James Anderson is now Englands all time leading wicket taking in all formats of the game. He has surpassed Ian Botham. I know that over the last few years England have played a lot more Cricket than some other countries but it is still a fantastic achievement. Anderson is only 30 and I think that he still have another four or five good years left him. He is just under a hundred wicket away from been the leading wicket taker for England in Tests.

Well done Jimmy

West Bromwich Albion FC / Our Derbies record.
« on: January 20, 2013, 01:17:22 PM »
Unbeaten in five games now against the Villa, don't know if we have gone that long of a run without losing to Villa. We have only lost two of the last thirteen games with Wolves. Our recent record with Birmingham is pretty good too won the last two as we have only lost four of the last twelve games with Blues. Could be the first time in a decade that next season we wont have any real local derbies next season.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Derek Kevan R.I.P
« on: January 04, 2013, 05:49:37 PM »
Everyone at West Bromwich Albion is saddened to hear of the passing of legendary ex-Albion striker Derek Kevan who died this afternoon, aged 77.
Derek spent a magnificent decade at the club during which he scored goals at quite an unbelievable rate. He ended his Albion career in 1963 having amassed an amazing 173 goals in 291 appearances.
A true Albion legend, Derek will be sorely missed and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.

R.I.P to a true Albion legend.

West Bromwich Albion FC / 2012 stats
« on: December 30, 2012, 03:20:46 PM »
39 League games
17 wins
7 draws
15 defeats
10 clean sheets
So in total that would give us 58 points which would be a fantastic total to get come the end of the season even if we have played just the one extra game. I would imagine not many teams have got 58 points or more in this calender year.

General Football & Sports / England in India

We are on the verge on winning the second Test, Cook and KP both made excellent century's today. Both of those players have now gone to 22 hundreds. Monty  Panesar has been excellent, picking up 2 five wicket hauls in the test match. India only lead by 36 so hopefully we can polish them off early tomorrow and score the runs.
