West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Karlan Grant

I honestly feel somewhat sorry for him as well.
It must be awful for him to know he is not wanted and yet is as stuck with us as we are with him. A difficult situation all round.
We should be able to transfer people at any time of the season, this nonsensical transfer deadline day fiasco is utterly stupid and creates hideous problems for players and clubs alike.
I see where you’re coming from “kinda”!! Whenever I find myself feeling sorry for a player in Grant’s position or something similar I remind myself of the check they get to cash every week and let’s be honest life could be a whole lot worse!!

Twice they have had blatant dives the other one when their player jumped over Furlong and went down grabbing his foot when on replay he didn’t even come into contact.

Impressive win no doubt and battling back from a 2-0 deficit away from home is quite impressive especially after clawing our way back and taking the lead with still about 20 min left in the match let’s not forget Luton we’re on quite a run themselves and full of confidence. Team kept their heads up and showed some real character in this match. Can’t say enough about CC and the job he has done getting us into the playoff spots but that was only half the battle now we gotta keep this going and stay there!

I think the same really. Whilst it is not clear, he did swing his arm back. My thought is that their player clearly knew he was beaten, tried to pull him back, felt the contact and play acted on it. I think it is open to interpretation so hopefully he will get away with it.
I agree, the match announcers here in the states made it sound like BTA walked over to him and punched him in the face. There was no doubt there was some acting going on with their player who I agree knew he was beat and exaggerated the entire incident. The announcers did say “we had to watch it back 2-3 times before we saw it so not sure how the match officials could have caught it in real time” well if it was so aggressive and obvious you would not need to watch the replay 2-3 times to catch it no matter how bad the camera angle or position!! No way he deserves any ban whatsoever!!
Was the American feed using the home announcers, I had to watch half the match on mute because those announcers were clearly carrying an obvious Chesterfield bias the entire match.

Most ain’t doing themselves any favors if they were hoping to change CC’s opinion on their playing time

Gotta say can’t wait for the sun to drop some. One of the camera angles are in direction of sun shining through the corner between two stands

Why isn’t there a live video stream available for us overseas? I could be wrong but aren’t matches with the typical Saturday 3pm kickoff available for live video stream. I know the audio match pass is available but obviously rather watch!!

One of the worst penalties I’ve seen!! What a completely pathetic effort there from Grant! With the last kick of the half we could have gone into the half a goal up which would have completely deflated  Millwall after their efforts all half to disrupt the flow of the game. Instead of making Millwall chase the game a goal down were now in for more of the stop/start play that we saw all first half!!

Messi to Paris Saint-Germain per ESPN. com

A tearful Lionel Messi has said his next move is not confirmed at an emotional farewell news conference on Sunday, but ESPN sources say a deal with Paris Saint-Germain has already been agreed.

Messi, who has been a free agent since his contract expired at Camp Nou on June 30, had maintained his silence since Barca announced on Thursday that he will not sign new terms because of financial problems.

- Laporta on Messi exit: No one bigger than Barca

The Argentina forward said he had received several calls from clubs since the news broke, confirming PSG's interest, and multiple sources have told ESPN that he has already agreed to sign for the Ligue 1 side.

Sources added that Messi is expected to travel to Paris on Sunday before completing a medical in the coming days and signing a two-year deal with the option for a third season. He could be presented at an event at the Eiffel Tower in the coming days.

"[PSG] is one possibility," Messi said. "There's nothing closed at the moment but we're talking about a lot of things. After Barca's statement, a lot of clubs showed an interest. There's nothing final but, of course, there are talks."

Asked about the prospect of joining a rival, he added: "There is no doubt that I will go to a team that will compete with Barca. I didn't want to leave, but I have to. And I want to keep winning. That's my mentality. I want to win."

Messi said a photograph of him with several PSG players in Ibiza last week, including Neymar and Angel Di Maria, was just a coincidence, although he said they did joke about him moving to Paris.

Instead, in an event at the auditorium to the side of Camp Nou attended by the board, the first-team squad and his family, Messi insisted he had done everything possible to stay at Barca.

"I am really sad because I didn't want to leave because this is the club I love," he said. "I didn't expect this. I have never lied; I have always been honest and upfront. Last year I wanted to leave; this year I didn't. That's why I am so sad.

"As the president [Joan Laporta] has explained, the club has debt [problems]. It's not possible. Why keep drawing it out if it's nearly impossible? The talks stopped as Barca did not want to go on, they knew LaLiga would not let it happen, it was impossible.

"I did everything I could to stay and it wasn't possible. I offered to reduce my salary by 50% and Barca didn't ask for anything else. They didn't ask for another 30% , that's a lie."

Messi, 34, had agreed a new five-year contract with Barca but that would have meant the club's wage bill stood at 110% of their revenue. Their spending cap with LaLiga has dropped from over €600 million in 2019-20 to an expected €200m for the coming season, making it impossible to register Messi's new deal, even with a big pay cut. His previous terms included a base salary of around €70m gross without bonuses.

"Without a doubt, this is the most difficult time of my career," Messi continued. "I have had a lot of tough moments, but the other day, [learning I was] not going back to training, not going to be on the pitch again, that this is the end with this club, yes, it's one of the most difficult moments for me.

"This year is different from last year [when I wanted to leave]. My family and I were convinced we were going to stay, that's what we wanted more than anything. We are at home here. Now I have to say goodbye to all of this.

"I have been here since I was 13. After 21 years, I am leaving with my wife, with my three little Catalan-Argentine kids. I can't say that we won't come back in some way because this is our home and I promised my children we would."

Messi lamented that he had been unable to say goodbye on the pitch with the fans chanting his name, bemoaning that his last 18 months at the club have been played in empty stadiums due to the pandemic.

With 672 goals in 778 games for Barca, Messi leaves as both the club's record appearance maker and top goalscorer. However, he says no one person comes before the club and assured supporters there is a squad built for success even without him.

"Barca are one of the best teams in the world, they have an amazing side," he said. "More players will come, not just now but in the future. Players come and go. As Laporta said, no one person comes before the club. At first, it will be weird, but people will get used to it."

I don't know if this has been posted elsewhere and I haven't checked the stats for myself. But Little Miss Grealish has apparently been on the losing side for Aston Villa on nineteen consecutive occasions spread over three Prem' seasons. That's not nineteen Prem' Villa defeats in a row, just his appearances in a Villa shirt in the Prem' which have ended in defeat. This is reportedly the longest losing streak of any professional footballer in the history of the Prem'. The bloke's a Jonah! Long may that run continue  8) .
Personally, I find this stat you found to be the most astonishing, unbelievable little factoid. I know they were pretty bad & lost a lot of games those last couple years before they went down but c-mon the odds of this happening have to be pretty long. To not have been involved in at least a scrappy draw at least once during this time that spans over three separate Premier League seasons is mind blowing. A Jonah indeed, it’s been the equivalent to half of a Prem. League season since you have gotten a single point from a match he’s been involved in.......you gotta toss um!! But as you say hope they don’t and long may that run of bad luck continue!!

As the saying goes “beggars can’t be choosers”!! I think if he stays fit and and determined he should get us a good 16-20 goals especially if he’s taking penalties. We’re so desperate for recent proven goal scorers I can see why some are disappointed and feel underwhelmed seeing that he’s only scored 9 goals in two seasons. Regular playing time a drop in division with good service it could turn out to be a good addition. Am glad it’s only a year long loan deal though!
Would be thrilled to see us sign another striker in the next couple hours!

Newcastle has been sold for 350M to Dubai-based billionaire Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan. Article states they tried to buy Liverpool for 2B last year.

Having been unable to take advantage of this many great chances and not capitalizing on the clear mistakes by Villa I can’t help but get nervous that it’s going to cost us. Couldn’t be happier on how the half has started though!!

Cmon Albion keep heads up and focused, it there for the taking take advantage of playing at home!!

Starting this second half in as good a situation as we could have asked for. Now let’s take advantage of the fact we finished above them and get to play this all important second leg in front of our home crowd.
Be smart and play with the utmost intensity at all times!! Can not afford switching off at any time!!

First half checklist
☑️ - by any means necessary do not let Villa get a goal

☑️ - somehow, someway score a goal and level this up
