General Football & Sports / The offside rule

Question
Having just watched the scousers unfortunately get back in front in their game against villareal with a goal that I think should be offside..
How does the rule work to include arms/hands/fingers?
What I mean is, if any contact with arms/hands/fingers is deemed a foul for handball, how can those body parts represent a player (defender) that then plays an attacker onside ?
Shouldn’t it be any body part other than them?

So....let’s hope we get everything sorted, the virus gets defeated and we all play on ....but for whatever reason it floats after June and all the players that are loaned or at end of contract have gone

What does the starting line up look like ?
(Yes I’m bored)

                   Johnstone
Furlong. Hegazi.  Bartley.   Gibbs

             Semi.     Livermore
Phillips.       Sawyers.       Grosiki

How come when we have people like Lenny Henry and Frank Skinner in our ranks, the attempts on here at humour can be so bad.
There are some (Jacko,SmethDan) who can walk off the pitch with their heads held high , safe in the knowledge they can induce laughter, but my God if I had a pound for every post that contained "tchyoi" along with "they day know wot he wuz doing because he day know himself" I'd be rich
Cmon baggies , step it up .

West Bromwich Albion FC / Strikers
« on: December 26, 2017, 07:46:32 AM »
So it's Christmas , obviously I've been in bed with flu 😷
But it does give you some thinking time....so

I said to myself if I (or most baggies ) were asked
Who is the striker coach?
What are their credentials?
Can you see any development ?
I'd suggest the answers would be
Don't know
Don't know
No

Now if I ( or we ) were asked the very same questions about Derby county ?
Kevin Phillips
The list is long and distinguished
Look at them

Additionally, I think we have got some real issues with comitment
Honestly if the cross was coming in in order who do you put your money on to score

Phillips/Taylor
Bull/Roberts
HRK/Rodriguez.

Theee are three choices and our current would be forth, HRK is too fat and Rodriguez far too worried about his hair and teeth...

I shall now get another lemsip.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Backing off
« on: December 22, 2013, 01:34:32 PM »
Im sure I am  not imagining this , whenever a team breaks on us our defence NEVER seem to attack the man with the ball , thus allowing a free run into/around the box .
Now I am aware that if you are last man /outnumbered that the norm would be to stall for reinforcements but we seem to do this as a default setting ?

Am I the only one that see's it ?

After reading many posts on this forum , I have come to the conclusion that many are overhyping their input or effect on West Bromwich Albion.
Whilst I am sure we all would like the club/team to progress , it would appear that many still think they have a "right " to question the business decisions made and the "funding" of transfer targets?
Some have even suggested along the lines that we should "just pay the 6m" for Sinclair", or questioned where the money has gone .
Im not an happy clapper , I am not Jeremy Peace , but I do understand my very small part in the big business jigsaw that is WBA, I don't think it makes me any less of a fan in fact I think it helps manage my expectation , I just wish people would stop acting like the club/team/chairman owes them something , this is the real world not football manager .

West Bromwich Albion FC / What's happened to our fans ?
« on: December 22, 2012, 07:48:23 PM »
Today after no win in 4 we get back to winning ways , I should be happy but I am not, I fully understand that everyone will have a different opinion in fact I like that about football, it breeds conversation and debate...however...

Today I heard "lukaku yowm s***" "Odemwinghie yow c u en tee "and my own personal favourite"tek brunt off that was s***" even though it was Morrison who had misplaced a pass.

Since when did we become so great that we can give this sort of abuse to someone worth £18m, our top goalscorer in the prem and a left winger that 3 good managers have made club captain, yes I get frustrated, yes we have been on a little bad run ( although 4/6?) but I really thought I was sat in the holte end today...

Just woke up from a lovely dream, we beat Man Utd 2-0 at their place, the first goal was controversial , just going over the line before the keeper pulled it out but the Lino saw it and gave, don't remember the 2nd but the tv camera panned around our supporters and Kevin Donovan was in there celebrating with us.

Happy all day now :D

General Football & Sports / R.I.P Brian Woolnough
« on: September 18, 2012, 12:50:21 PM »
Sorry to hear Brian has passed away ..

THE Daily Star is sad to announce the death of chief sports writer Brian Woolnough.

The 63-year-old had been suffering from bowel cancer and died at home. Wooly, as he was affectionately known, joined the Star from the Sun in 2001.

He was one of the country’s best known sports journalists and was constantly in demand by TV and radio for his well-informed and cutting opinions.

He had also hosted Sky Sports' popular Sunday Supplement since 2007, after previously being the presenter of Hold the Back Page from August 1994.

He started his career at The Esher News in Surrey after his mother saw an advert in the paper for a cub reporter.

After working at the Evening Post in Hemel Hempstead and for United Newspapers he was headhunted by The Sun, where he worked his way up to become chief football writer.

He stayed there for 27 years, once nearly joining great rivals the Daily Mirror, before being poached by the Star to become chief sports writer in 2001.

The role suited him perfectly, and he was able to use his expanded brief to display his love, and knowledge, of among other sports rugby union, cricket and boxing.

Regarded as one of the profession’s true gents, that did not stop him going into the referee’s room and confronting the official in Rotterdam in 1993 after a controversial decision looked to have denied England a place in the 1994 World Cup finals.

And he was front page news himself in 2004, when his typically trenchant views after watching a display by Norwich City saw him dominate local newspapers and TV bulletins.

It was all smoothed over during lunch with Delia Smith. And he was right, Norwich were relegated.

He was widely-known and respected inside and outside the profession, and must have been one of the few journalists to have been regularly asked for his autograph.

He leaves a wife, Linda, and three children.

I think this phrase is used more than most on this board?
There does seem to be a minority on here that are almost waiting for something/someone to not be successful so they can throw the phrase around, probably the same people that think that it's that easy to throw 7 million at player x because other teams have , maybe even the same people that don't realise that players cost a fee+wages+agent fee+sign on fee ?
I may be wrong but we appear to be very well run and financially sound which is great for when the new financial rules kick in.

There have been many dark days following my baggies but this really is a great time to be a Baggie .

Great viewing on SSN
Said that he's in his last year of contract and it's up to the club , then repeated himself 5 times.
Followed by the country should get behind Roy but he should have taken Ferdinand .

Simply a judas that is upset because he was nailed on for the England post and now wants to extend his spuds contract?
I think he his perfect for Chelsea , and I hope he falls on his fat face...

Would it be that much of a surprise to see
Mancity
Arsenal
Spurs
Chelsea
Filling the cl spaces , Fergie weather you love him or hate him you must respect his record but even he seems out of sorts .
Is it a bad thing ??
