West Bromwich Albion FC / Injuries
« on: February 08, 2018, 03:24:36 PM »
Anyone know when Chadli and Morrison are likely to be back?

Last I read was Morrison was jogging around late December, it's now February so surely a return should be nigh? As for Chadli last I read was he would be out for at least two months from the end of December which basically means he'll be back in March.

Any developments?

If we had Salah, Kane and Mane as a front three where would we be in the league?

Is this the first time in years we can get a little bit excited with the third round draw coming up on Monday?

Given Pardew's record (he has been to three domestic cup finals) and we are now starting to play on the front foot is it fair to say we may have a chance  of a decent run this season?

It's not likely we'll get to the final but is this the first season lately that we can just have that little bit of excitement and hope?

I'm thinking maybe!  :o

Favourable draw please. We'll have some non league team at home.  ;)

West Bromwich Albion FC / Mr Williams / Mr Lai
« on: November 20, 2017, 12:53:45 PM »
The next appointment will be important for the development of the club. Mr Lai / Mr Williams you have to have a clear vision of what you want the club to achieve in the next five years. In my mind it is perfectly reasonable for us fans to expect the following:

1 Increase stadium capacity to above 30,000 and attract new / stay away fans.

New manager

2 Set up to attempt to win football matches. I can understand the need to be cautious against the likes of Man City / Chelsea etc but in games against the majority of clubs we should be looking to impose ourselves on the opposition. This doesn't mean we need to play like Man City do, just attempt to go forward and win football matches.

3 Remain in the Premier League.

4 Treat cup games with equal priority to Premier League games and make a concerted effort to be very competitive in cup competitions.

None of the above is impossible by any means and in order to grow as a club and as a team we need to achieve these ambitions these expectations are not unreasonable.

This next managerial appointment is crucial and so is your attitude and ambition for the club. Please this is not too much to ask.

General Football & Sports / George Reilly
« on: December 02, 2016, 11:28:37 AM »
Anyone remember him, played for us in the 80's?

Did you know that Reilly scored the winner for Watford in the FA Cup semi final of 1984 against Plymouth (who knocked us out, Tommy bloody Tynan).

In 2003 Reilly was working as a bricklayer when someone bit part of his ear off and whispered "Plymouth" to him

That's one way to seek revenge.

You learn something new every day!

Take Twatini with him and football will be all the better for it.

I do these just for fun's every now and then when I'm bored lol.

Ok guys - who is it?

I'm going for Kevin Bartlett - he was a rocket and finished second in some sprint challenge thing. I once saw him on the half way line, he kicked the ball forward and the defender couldn't even be arsed to chase him.

He gets my vote.

Honourable mentions for Peter Barnes ................. (as was always the case with Barnesey, when he felt like it), Laurie Cunningham, Willie Johnston and (a surprise to some I'm sure) Martin Albrechtsen who I remember Henry Camara (a flyer) giving up the chase against.

Over to you lot ............................

Seems like a lovely bloke that has the tide to swim against, and is probably out of his depth. Anyone else feel a bit sorry for him?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Bit of fun - Hardest Albion player ever
« on: April 30, 2015, 12:20:40 PM »
Ok, nothing too serious.

Who would you say was the hardest Albion player you've seen?

Setters? Roberts? Robertson? Giles? Thompson? Regis? Moore? Hartson?

I'll throw in a couple from left-field, -

Steve Hunt - karate black belt wasn't he?
Darryl Burgess - Wouldn't fancy getting on the wrong side of him.

Over to you lot.

General Football & Sports / Mourinho - 200 million for Hazard
« on: April 26, 2015, 09:05:09 AM »
What planet is he on? I can see why he has slapped that figure on him but Hazard ain't even top five in the world, probably not top ten.

Supply and demand .............. yes I get it, but that figure is taking the urine to extremities surely?

General Football & Sports / Is it just me?

Watching Spanish football and English football today  ..... is it only me who thinks that Premiership players are overly muscled. All of them seem to be muscled and mostly large in height too. Watching Spanish football, the players don't seem to have the same bulk. Are my eyes deceiving me or is there too much emphasis on physical strength in the English game? I say too much because it certainly doesn't seem to help on the European / world stages.

I'll start it off and go for Maradona. Pele played in an era where far less countries competed in world football for a start. Maradona is the one player that can genuinely claim that he won a world cup practically on his own.

Would either have them have been as good in the modern era? .......................................... Of course they bloody would  ;)

West Bromwich Albion FC / rare footage
« on: March 20, 2015, 12:40:39 PM »
Just came across this video on Youtube. I'd never seen it before. unfortunately the picture quality is pretty poor. UEFA Cup Quarter Final first leg from 1978 - 79 against Red Star in Belgrade. I wonder if / when we'll ever see the Albion in Europe again?

General Football & Sports / Messi and Barce
« on: February 15, 2015, 10:47:20 PM »
Well, he had a pretty poor twelve months or so by his ridiculous standards but the form he's in right now has propelled him back to the best player in the world status. The last couple of months he's been the Messi of old and when he's like that not even Ronaldo can live with him.

Barcelona look much better than they have for a couple of years as well. Some of their football has been like watching a fantasy. Great to see. I think they have a great chance of winning the Champions league this season. Anyone agree?

General Football & Sports / Young English players
« on: December 29, 2014, 05:55:47 AM »
For a while there seemed to be a lack of young English players breaking through particularly in the Premiership but this season things are changing. I noticed on Sunday the following in matchday squads:

Spurs - Ryan Mason, Harry Kane, Eric Dier
Man Utd - Luke Shaw, James Wilson
Southampton - Matt Targett, James Ward Prowse, Lloyd Isgrove, Harrison Reed, Jason McCarthy
Aston Villa - Callum Robinson, Jack Grealish
Sunderland - Connor Wickham
Hull - Harry McGuire, Tom Ince
Leicester - Mat James, Danny Drinkwater, Liam Moore, Adam Smith
Burnley - Michael Keane, Keiren Trippier, Danny Ings
QPR - Steven Caulker, Matt Phillips, Jordon Mutch
Stoke - Jack Buttland, Oliver Shenton
West Brom - Craig Dawson, Saido Berahino
Arsenal - Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Danny Welbeck, Callum Chambers
Newcastle - Jack Alnwick, Paul Dummett, Adam Armstrong, Freddie Woodman
Everton - Luke Garbutt, Tyias Browning, Ross Barkley, Russell Griffiths.

How refreshing is this, and about time. All of those guys listed above are under 25, most of them well under. Shame on Chelsea and Man City who need to start doing their bit. There are forty listed above and not one from either of those two clubs.

For a long time we had barely any English strikers now with the likes of Harry Kane, Berahino and Charlie Austin emerging there is light at the end of the tunnel.
