West Bromwich Albion FC / Shambles
« on: April 19, 2022, 12:13:17 AM »
I've not long turned 60, so I've seen a few ups and downs! My parents and grandfather responsible for introducing me to the Albion will be turning in their graves at what we have become! An embarrassing shambles of a club!
Edit as an afterthought, what must the Everiss's, Millerchips and others before them think?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Reyes Cleary
« on: December 07, 2021, 02:46:21 PM »
Scored a hat trick against Middlesborough PL2.
Not sure he has his own thread, apologies if so & can mods move it if necessary.
This guy has get on the first team fringes at least on the bench. Looks an absolute beast, could he be our new Cyrille?

General Football & Sports / Remembering old football kits
« on: August 16, 2020, 10:39:14 AM »
On itv4 big match now, York City in that maroon 'Y' kit in 1974,anybody remember that?
Then there was that Coventry brown affair with the matching stripes on the shorts, I remember the 7 we notched against them in that monstrosity.
Any others anybody remember, perhaps we could post some pics of strange/unusual kits for a bit of fun?

General Football & Sports / cheating?

In view of recent events re Dwight Gayle and Hernandez?? handball goal for West Ham, perhaps we could highlight other events here for the benefit of the FA.
As an example see this - I know its not English but its an example from Levante/Real Madrid
If it isn't allowed feel free to move or delete it

General Football & Sports / FA Cup

I must say how much I enjoyed watching the BBC coverage of Maltby Mains v Frickley in the FA Cup this afternoon. Took me back to the days of proper football - almost!

West Bromwich Albion FC / Number of loans allowed
« on: January 29, 2018, 09:41:44 PM »
Hi guys, apologies for posting what probably seems a stupid question, but I've been away working in France and haven't been able to catch up with all the news until now.
As the thread says with Greg, Sturridge & Gabr how many loan players are we actually allowed?

ok we may or may not be in it but this is taking the p*ss now!

General Football & Sports / Cheating

Did anybody see the highlights of the Bournemouth Watford game where the Watford player clearly left the ball for who he thought was a team mate behind him after a call only to find out it was a Bournemouth player! I thought that was a foul! It was so obvious - don't get me started on other forms of cheating like diving! I accept some things as part of the game as gamesmanship/sportsmanship but the above well!

I've moved back to the UK from Spain & I'd like to change my user name to elmo_in_swansea - is this possible? I've successfully changed my location in the settings!

General Football & Sports / Changes to rules from 1 June 2016
« on: May 01, 2016, 07:29:15 PM »
Thanks to my friends on the Newport County forum, I have lifted the following document relating to the laws of the game!
I haven't read it nor profess to know what changes there are, & I'm not a referee lol - make of it what you wish, for information only!

West Bromwich Albion FC / Penalties
« on: February 11, 2016, 01:10:36 PM »
As we've just witnessed a 'shoot-out' who do people regard as our best penalty taker past/present?
Did/do you feel confident when certain players are taking them?
I think I'd have to plump for Bomber, have to check the stats to see how many he scored/missed but he was always a dead cert for me! Although I do remember him missing one against Peter Shilton in front of the Brummie!

General Football & Sports / Abou Diaby
« on: February 10, 2016, 01:49:02 PM »
I note the previous thread is locked, however, it seems according to BBC sports he is due to play his 1st game tonight for Marseille, what a good job he went there!

General Football & Sports / Leeds United & Sky tv
« on: December 29, 2015, 03:20:41 PM »
Don't know if this is elsewhere but Leeds initially refused Sky cameras in to Elland Road to set up for tonights game with Derby. Seems they've now relented after been threatened with a fine by the FL.
I know their chairman is a bit controversial (alledgedly) but he's moaning about the number of games his team have been on - 9 I think it stated incidentally same number as Derby. Is this a bit like FC Utd's stand against monday night football or does he has a point?

General Football & Sports / European League
« on: December 27, 2015, 11:12:11 AM »
Interesting to hear everyone's views on this!
Would it be better if the top 4/5 or top 2 in some countries just pee'd off to a European League, which in essence is what the Champions League really is. This is evident further with third placed teams in the CL groups relegating (ha ha money to money!) into the Europa League (CL div 2 in all but name!).
They all want a closed shop ie no real relegation for guaranteed incomes etc, air travel even in this country is becoming the norm for some teams, weakened teams not only in domestic cups but the eyes are always on European games ie how many teams lose after thursday in Europe.
Then the rest of us can get on with life in a competitive league, where more than 6 teams have a chance of winning something.
As an aside, here in this part of ex-pat Spain all the Spanish support RM or Barca! Last week RM beat another Madrid team Rayo Vallecano in La Liga 10-2. The local team Elche were relegated ala Swindon to league 2 at the end of last season for tax irregularities, they now get 9000 instead of 25000+ gates! Seems the same all over Europe!

West Bromwich Albion FC / itv player man u v wba 1978
« on: December 19, 2015, 10:21:14 AM »
Just flicking through a few channels on my android box & came across the big match revisited on itv player! Have relived the 1978 man u wba 3-5 from Dec 1978 brought back some memories and great to give a heads up to some younger forum members who haven't seen it , although I guess there won't be many who haven't! Great footy fix for a Saturday morning!

General Football & Sports / Premier League kits

Taken from the Mirror website - some interesting & some eye destroying kits there - our away kit rates well! Not sure we've worn it yet!!

General Football & Sports / Second teams
« on: April 17, 2015, 04:35:21 PM »
With the debate raging about TP & our potentially precarious relegation run-in, something to take our minds off it!
What other teams, if any, do other posters follow closely as a second team? I generally mean local, non-league, foreign or others. Obviously there is only one team for us all in the main but there are a multitude of reasons for following others.
Interested in your comments!
I follow Newport County as well now, after living there for 5 years & my wife's family are all ardent County fans! (Went to Wembley for the FA Trophy final 2012 came over specially!) Also, Orihuela CF in the Spanish 3rd division group 6, I've been to a few games here (they lost to Real Betis B team in the promotion play-offs last season) & are currently in the playoff positions with 6 games to go!

West Bromwich Albion FC / You're the manager!
« on: April 11, 2015, 06:06:04 PM »
Ok so we're all pity drunk off this evening! We've all got our opinions but who really could make a match winning team out of what we have at our disposal? TP may have covered his back by saying it's his toughest job! We had a couple of perhaps unexpected results against midtable teams but its a different kettle of fish it seems against those with something to play for!
I'm struggling to pick 11 that I rate! It might seem harsh but who do we have thats up for a battle, good enough, young & hungry enough? Unless we play the U21's!
I would only have Dawson, Berahino & Fletcher (maybe Lescott) in my team from whats available!

Perhaps this is parallel to my 'who should go' thread

West Bromwich Albion FC / who should go?
« on: April 04, 2015, 05:38:41 PM »
OK maybe a knee jerk reaction to this afternoons non-event at the Hawthorns. If we need to lose/ship out 10 players by hook or crook irrespective of theyre contract position who would they be?

1. Myhill - dont cut it for me too complacent as no 2 - & prob needs 1st team football (not based on todays result)
2. Mulumbu - every close season fancies a move to a better club - but for me a great servant who just doesnt cut it here anymore - better for him to move on but I doubt he'll go higher!
3. Davidson - who?
4. Brown Ideye - have tried to give him time - but just cant see it happening for him!
5. Olssen - past his best
6. GMac - great servant but as Jonas!
7. Sess - promises so much - delivers very little!
8. Gardener - ordinary!
9. Anichebe - biggest waste of 6m I've ever seen
10. Baird - just dont see what he offers over other players.

Ok this is subjective & these are my opinions! Not here to openly slate players - its a discussion, I havent included loan players, those who haven't been selected regularly by either AI or TP (with the exception of Jason Davidson who has rarely figured if at all!) or Berahino whom I believe would rather prefer to sit on somebody elses bench (not that I can blame him!)

West Bromwich Albion FC / Annus Horribilis
« on: December 30, 2014, 03:51:10 PM »
As its the eve of New Years Eve just thought I'd like to wish all West Brom supporters a Happy New Year & briefly reflect on 2014 - Annus Horribis probably best forgotten.

Starting the year off with Downing & Kiely in charge
Pepe Mel fiasco
Pinstripe shirts fiasco
Alan Irvine fiasco
Ending with Downing (probably) in charge hopefully for only 1 game!

Hopefully Mr Peace will understand it cant be done on the cheap, yes I know he's frugal (who isnt really) but lets try and get it right this time! The fans arent always wrong & all we want is for West Brom to represent us in a manner in which we can be proud (even losing if at least we've put in a shift)
If it means being Megsonesque (Pulis) to get us back to some sort of stability so be it - just dont make 2015 as bad as 2014 was!

We want our Albion back!!
