West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: System / Tactics / Personnel

                       Johnstone

Furlong/Ferguson Bartley hegazi. Gibbs

                 Ajayi.        Livermore

                Pereira sawyers.     Diangana

                        Phillips

Rotherham fans Adamant ajayi is better in midfield. Livermore can’t be dropped on this seasons form , nor Bartley but we need to be more compact as conceding 2 at home 5 games in a row criminal.
Get hegazi and Gibbs back in, shuffle ajayi in defensive midfield, sawyers bit further forward , pereira free role and pace of Phillips needed up front

If we go up then a serious bid of 25m plus I’d hope we at least try. The boy is special. An outlet, tricky and exciting.

West Ham won’t sell though

Someone mentioned earlier in this thread something I hadn’t even thought of and that was about Portugal connection and mendes plus wolves are local, not much uprooting for him.

Imagine that? I don’t think I’d watch football ever again if he went to wolves

Look at betting for league. Leeds miles clear. Tells you what people think of them.

I’d take a point now, a defeat I would be disappointed and a win , well I’d certainly start to really believe. We would have been to Fulham, forest and Leeds and been unbeaten.

They have pablo out, their best player. Though they will still dominate the ball i expect us to have times of good possession too, need to take our chances and hopefully this is Austin’s time

Outstanding so far and he’s Albion fan is he ???

If so you would hope this swings it in terms of signing new contract

Actually been ok this season.

He’s a defender and a decent one, but can’t pass to save his life. Unfortunately in this climate the onus is on defenders being comfortable on the ball which he isn’t so, after a few more games it’s time to give way for hegazi return

If West Ham manage to stay in the top 8 or 10 up to January then I doubt they will recall him.

I'm just going to carry on enjoying watching him play and hopefully scoring more goals.

On the flip side they might then want him back for a europa push

Johnstone-6- get off his back ffs!  That ironic cheer for a catch second half was pathetic, who’s it’s going to benefit? Better today with ball at feet, could have done better with 2nd goal

Ferguson 6 like this lad, fully committed and left back is not his natural position. Kept going onto his right foot and felt brunt should have played

Furlong 8. Thought he was great in attack and defence

Bartley 7. Another improved performance

Ajayi. 7. Still a midfielder rather than centre half for me, few surging runs proved this, as did a poor reading of a breakaway resulting in a booking

Livermore 9 a critic of mine but a leader today . Fantastic goal and all round leadership

Sawyers 7 quiet for his standards but breath of fresh air with calmness in midfield

Perriera 9 outstanding touch, 2 assists must start. Class.

Diangana 8 so direct so exciting great goal

Phillips 7.5. Great battling for goal and steady

Austin 5 sorry not match fit

West Bromwich Albion FC / Exciting to watch

For many years we have craved exciting players to watch but I believe what I’ve seen so far in diangana (baby). Pereira, sawyers etc we are in for an entertaining season.

I feel perriera is genuine top class , lovely soft touches today. Diangana is rapid so direct and grotto watch.

Like his linking of play but would like to see him further up the pitch to do more damage.

Him and sawyers have helped us be more on front foot but I think we need to find a way of him moving into more attacking positions, especially at home

I wouldn’t start Austin.

of all the teams Luton is the one we need to press high up ie lots of running as you know jones will try to get them playing out from the back so zohore for me. Needs to start and not be dropped for confidence too

I think we could see Bilic going with something like this:

                    Johnstone

Furlong     Bartley     Hegazi      Gibbs

            Sawyers      Krovinovic

Diangana         Phillips           Perreira

                       Austin

We have so many options in terms of personnel and formation though, nice problem for Slaven to have.

No semi ?

I thought Ferguson was pretty poor on the ball. Over hit crosses and misplaced passes when not under any real pressure. Defensively sound though.

Gibbs was lucky not to cost us a goal first half when he left his man to have a free header which he put wide. Bartley failed to react as well. Decent on the ball but marking suspect.

Edwards made the wrong decisions late on and started getting sloppy. This though is what happens with young players and is why they need games before we judge them fairly. They looked like world beaters at Forest (Edwards / Ferguson), looked like kids at times yesterday when they have to perform under a bit of pressure on a regular basis.

All about opinions but for the first time in years I’m happy with our fullbacks

                    Bond

Ferguson hegazi.  Bartley.  Gibbs

          Ajeyi.      Sawyers.

Phillips.      Krovinovic.       Perriera

                 Austin

Bartley improving massively, Edwards/perriera/diang rotation and big semi going into midfield as he’s not a centre half

Johnstone- nothing to do but one thing he could have was come for cross and he didn’t

Bartley- is improving all the time

Semi - I like him but he’s not a centre half. Rotherham fans told us that. I hope he’s pushed into midfield when hegazi returns

Ferguson/Gibbs both very good

Sawyers/krovinovic lovely to see us control a game. Like these two in midfield

Phillips- has good game. One piece of control and pace from Bartley’s diagonal was exceptional

Edwards - excellent dribbles, just needs work on end product

Zohore - jury’s out

Not great debut and didn’t  score preseason.

His touch was off too, but it’s one game. He didn’t have a chance, and grabham for forest is decent but he was quiet too so need to give him time

« on: August 03, 2019, 11:12:03 PM »
We’ve missed it for years

The heartbeat of a team.

Mccinness, mulumbu , scharner.

They drove us forward with passion. I feel these will give us passion but with quality too, genuinely excited

West Bromwich Albion FC / Midfield control
« on: August 03, 2019, 08:04:27 PM »
Last year arguably one of worst in league. Last few years , no one controls a game for us.
2 years ago neves controlled midfield and got wolves up.
Last year grealish and McGinn same for the vile.

This year I feel krovinovic and sawyers ( and I would say semi in there too ) can control games and get us promoted too.

Sawyers, krovinovic semi in midfield and we will be very strong in midfield . Something I haven’t said for years

Could mean we are closer to pereira deal than we thought.
But then again we would need another wide player on top.

Tough one really, when fit one of best in league but a big ‘when’

Can understand with hegazi out ajayi playing centre half but Rotherham fans adamant he’s better at defensive midfield. If we got him there breaking up play and sawyers dictating play with krovinovic too our midfield suddenly becomes best in division for me

Albion Matchday Forum / Re: Team

         I’d have

            Johnstone

Furlong. O’Shea Bartley:(  Gibbs

          Ajayi.     Sawyers

Phillips.      Krovinovic    Edwards

                 Zohore

Although I suspect ajayi will be at the back instead of O’Shea and Livermore will be in midfield.

Started this start of season , and still believe it’s number one priority of new manager.

We need a brand new team, ideally , but centre midfield we are desperate

Until lai goes we will struggle.

Villa with Lerner, wolves with moxey.

Now both clubs have mega owners.

We need to get lucky and hope another one comes along otherwise we cannot compete
