I think that is really poor, a massive region like the Midlands and not one player playing for England in the world cup

I thought at times Saudi played some nice football, but their overall quality was lacking. On one hand I feel that 5-0 flattered Russia, because Saudi weren't that bad, but on the other hand they created very little in the final third. I don't really rate Russia. A better team would have been in double figures.

Agreed, they showed flashes but then ruined it with poor passing. They looked jittery if I'm being honest, messing up simple passes. You just can't be that aggressively forward with your approach if you're going to make poor passes so often. Russia killed them on the counter. Saudi didn't show enough individual talent to overcome the mistakes they made as a team.

Russia were carefully patient and effective when they got their chances. Props to them. The +5 will allow them to be conservative vs the best two teams in the group and try their chances on the counter again. If they manage two draws they're into the next round.

I think the pundits made a good point that most of the Saudi team come from the top two teams in their league, so they're not used to defending much. Probably explained why they were left so open at the back so often

I think they are still fasting until tomorrow so that probably didn't help

Saudi were poor, but there were some great strikes by the Russians.

Biggest advert Hegazi will have this summer today. Can't see anything than a vibrant Urugayan win but big performances from the big man and his value will just go further north!

Looking forward to watching Bentacur. Class act.

I’ve heard some decent things about the Egyptian Trezeguet. Not linked to us but scored a fair few in Turkey last season for Kasimpasa.

Really enlightening pre-match build up for the Morocco v Iran game here from ITV.........not.

An interview with Gary Neville about England being pathetic in past tournaments and a discussion about if Harry Kane is world class or not. Pretty sure we're not playing today.

I know they're not glamour teams here but they could have had a look at players to look out for and a bit more about each team. Do they not have research teams or could they just not be bothered?

Anyway, Uruguay looked very mediocre apart from the fact that they have 2 strikers who can possibly score at any moment given a decent chance. Can't see them doing much at this tournament. Egypt much the same, but without even a decent striker on the pitch today. Russia were good last night but the opposition were poor, which flattered them slightly.

Morocco should win this next one.    (Edit : Maybe not as it turned out)

Thought Hegazhi had a decent game, commanding in his box, until him and a colleague were beaten in the air for the winning goal.

Should be a sixteen team tournament with a round robin first round to get to the last eight, then two leg knockouts, then final.

That would negatively impact grassroots levels of football around the globe.

The whole pointed of two legged cup ties is so both teams get to play at home, utterly pointless in an international tournament...
