A comfortable 2-0 win for Villa, with both goals from Benteke.

Have to agree with the general consensus of a Villa victory to nil.
0-2
Cagey start with us seeing more of the ball without creating anything of note, Villa get back into the game before scoring just before half time.
No changes at half time.
Villa continue to press until second goal around the hour mark.
Sess, Anichebe and Mulumbu off
Ideye, Varela and Samaras on
Hectic last half hour, with no real shape, resulting in hopeful balls into the box, sadly to no avail.

Obviously this is uber negative, but it is just what I expect now on matchdays, especially at home.
I do however hope beyond hope that I am wrong and this is the week where we finally show some guts (manager and players) and give them a good hiding!

I agree with what your saying, but the players have to look like they WANT to win.

If they get at Villa from the start then the fans will get behind them 100%.

Irvine could also get the fans up to this by playing an attacking line up (not going to happen).

If we got to the ground and saw Varela, Sess and Blanco starting behind Berahino/Anichebe/Brown, and Gamboa playing at RB, this would give the fans a massive lift before the game even starts.

Surely we can get ourselves up for a game against the villa regardless of what is happening in our season.

Don't think it would even need to be that drastic, just Gamboa and Varela would be enough.

I'm guessing it'll be tense and flat, but it shouldn't take good performances to get the fans up for a derby.

we do need to pick up some wins somewhere, draws will not be enough, esp when you factor in the games where we are likely to get beaten. (chelsea / man city .....)
Don't you mean:
(Chelsea / man city / arsenal / west ham / Newcastle / Southampton / everton / crystal palace / sunderland / Gateshead..............etc. etc.)

I don't think any manager would make those kind of changes for a derby, especially with the lack of first team football between them. It would be suicide

Varela and Gamboa is realistic, but highly unlikely.

The team selection will determine the atmosphere from the start. If it's the negative boring selection we all expect then the players have to come out the blocks from the off

Can we direct any negative anger at Alan Hutton? Just so he knows we've not forgotten "that" tackle on Shane Long?

I'm dreading this fixture when usually I look forward to it - we can't even beat the swines when we're playing well so I hate to think what it's going to be like when we're pooh.

No doubt they will come here, make life extremely difficult for us to break them down, stifle the game and then catch us on the counter attack in the second half.

These games have usually been entertaining in recent seasons but I cannot envisage that on Saturday.

I think we should all lay off AI until saturday night and get behind the lads against the real enermy:

http://7500toholte.sbnation.com/2014/12/9/7361311/annoying-fans-and-stupid-name-why-i-hate-west-bromwich-albion?

Jolly good point.

While we are on the subject, why do they think West Bromwich Albion is a stupid name? There just is no substance to this... Aston Villa, what the poof is that???!!!!

Villa are really our traditional, historic enemies, not Wolves.

I will get behind the team I will get behind Alan Irvine. But if we don't get three points from this, 'get thee behind me Satan'!!

:D Thats an interesting line-up that could work...strong going forward and defensively sound with Poc and Gamboa able to drop back

That team would get absolutely destroyed, its got one actual midfielder in it! Unless you're expecting Sessegnon to play a genuine midfield role too, which wouldn't end well either. No point playing 4 attackers if you can't get the ball to them.

Didn't bother me when he played for us, definitely doesn't bother me now he's played against us and cheated for a penalty.
