Ok. I know the Bourmemouth/Poole area vaguely from 30 years ago, so I'm basing it on that. That said, I think Southampton has much more of a football atmosphere about it. Maybe to do with it being a large port and having an industrial base. Bournemouth always seemed to be full of peoppe on leisure trips or pensioners toddling out of their nursing homes (I'm sure any Bournemouth fans reading will be loving this 8))
Some Albion fans ay lovin it . Sanctimonous Alex

I'd play our best team here but wouldn't risk anyone with a slight knock like you might in a league game. I would be interested in seeing if a midfield three would work although fear Maja would be too isolated, maybe something like:

Palmer

Furlong
Bartley
Heggem
Styles

Molumby
Diakite
Mowatt

Fellows
Maja
Grant

Not a bad shout so long as it becomes a 451 when defending with Fellows and Grant covering the full backs out wide in the 5.
It doesn't matter how many resources you have.
If you don't know how to use them, they will never be enough.

Nothing wrong with your proposal but I fear we will not go as strong as this....

It'd be great if we would go strong but I just can't see it, being in contention for the play offs is such a priority that I doubt we'd risk injuries to anyone that would derail our chances. Imagine if Maja, Grant or Fellows picked up an injury that kept them out for a few months.

I'd love us to have a real tilt at the Cups but sadly for clubs like us they just aren't a priority anymore. Promotion is the eventual aim and while that's still a possibility I can't see the club risking it. Sadly once we achieve promotion the mantra changes to "must stay in the league"...and the Cups become secondary again.

Would be great to go strong just to see how we fair against a premiership side with our best but unfortunately will probably be watching a glorified reserve game.

That's such a great post. Sums up the philosophy whichever league clubs like ours are playing in.

Shame we blew our chances in 2008 and I've not recovered since.

From Brunts presser i'm feeling a mixed team coming up rather than total B squad.

I'd like to see Wildsmith,Frabotta and Caleb play as much as they can in this. Get to rest some ever-presents in our defence.

I wouldn't say we blew it just very very very unlucky even Rednknapp admitted we were the best team on the day

We were cheated out of it by a combination of Howard Webb’s officiating on the day and Redknapp and Mandaric spending money they did not have to effectively bankrupt the club in that season. Was a disgrace all round really but nothing is said about it because it’s the Albion

Maybe the second string will be fired up to impress the new boss and we can do Bournemouth reserves.

The present management team have nothing to lose - and much to gain - by selecting a strong team this afternoon. They could play Wildsmith instead of Palmer and Caleb for Barclay.  Possibly Frabotta or Nelson in place of Styles, who is NOT a left back and we really need to know if anyone else except Heggan  is up to the job so that we can recruit if need be.  Put kids on the bench by all means but start with the rest of our usual strongest team.
I would definitely play Maja and Fellows - if they play well against Premier opposition their value will rise should we decide to cash in - if thye play badly potential suitors are more likely to be put off and we get to keep them for the season.

Can’t agree
Any clubs interested in a player would watch them over an extended time period and one or 2 bad games won’t impact the thought process that much.
The one thing everyone on this forum will agree on is that there is no way everyone will agree the best strategy for team selection in round 3 of the FA cup
Save players/don’t rest any/try and win/what’s the point the league matters more etc etc
If youre going to get told off, get told off for doing something not for doing nothing..

Our best against there best we lose 2 or 3 at least
They press well and are a quick team
Our second string against there best could be embarrassing
I’m hoping if we go weak they do too to at least keep it competitive

But how will Bournemouth know if we go weak? Aren’t the line ups announced simultaneously?

We might get an idea of the Bournemouth team from there Presser, Ours is a hybrid which is what I would do realistically but I also probably would have gone for it I love the Cup, I was 3 when Albion got to the Semi Final, the closest we got was Villa Quarter Final and Newcastle which I remember watching on Iplayer and being unimpressed with Newcastle, Bartley did also score a handball goal. Bournemouth were a bogey side for us in the past, the last decent result we got was a draw under Val a few seasons ago. But we have done well against Prem Sides in this position before, West Ham under Slav notably. I think West Ham got Europe that season or were around Bournemouth's position, however I do like Bournemouth they would be a team I chose to use on FM or Fifa, if they go strong We are going to be beaten badly if they don't and we go balanced we might lose 1-0, Hopefully Brunty fires them up, wasn't he in the 2008 team

A much stronger starting 11 than I predicted. Gives us a fighting chance!

No Frabotta even on bench? Shame.  Whitwell would have been nice to see on bench too.

Would have liked Heggem or Bartley alongside Taylor too.

Furlong rested, Holgate at RB.

He is on the bench.

Personally think this lineup is far too lightweight in midfield, at least one of Molumby or Diakite should have been in there. As a result and with who I consider to be our weakest centre back option alongside him, think this could be a tough introduction for Taylor.

As others have said, stronger than perhaps expected, let's hope we can progress to the next round!

Cheers guys, my eyes are failing me at 45  ;D

In that case Frabotta in, Styles out.

Agree with comments about midfield, Racic playing will have us overwhelmed.

I do feel Taylor has been done over a bit by having Holgate next to him so a baptism of fire it is!  ;D

Reasonable team selection, resting players while still naming a decent side.

A bit disappointed not to see Whitworth even make the bench but a top 8 prem side away probably isnt the bes time to go too lightweight.

No Maja the only eye raiser, purely because of the timing of the transfer window.
