I thought we were really  poor until Grant pulled one out the hat. It had a feeling of inevitability that Coventry would score so I’m glad it didn’t transpire. Once we went 2-0 game state helps us control the remainder relatively comfortably.

However it is a much needed win and hopefully some confidence, which we need as our fixtures get kinder again soon before a tricky end to the season
Confidence is key for me. We played well for 15 minutes but not long after we scored we went back into our shells. Perhaps playing with fear and no real freedom. Second half we rode our luck but Grants goal was excellent. Hopefully three points will give us some belief and performances will start to improve.

The subs worked tonight; Swift  Wallace and Dobbin all played their best games for us. They gave us some impetus just when we needed it.
Maja really off it tonight but it ultimately made no difference.
Both goals from shots outside the box, which is something we've been reluctant to do generally.
Pleased with the 3 points and now onto Watford.

Think people are missing Plamers contribution. Commanded his area, dealt excellently with crosses and made a couple of excellent saves.

Yeah definitely, should have mentioned Alex as well.

Well done boys. A good win against a decent team. Excellent goal from Grant. Substitutions worked well tonight with Swift looking like the number 10 he can be. Maja was poor until going off, clearly something amiss with him.

Much needed win, which we struggled to control until our second went in. In truth Coventry missed some sitters and Palmer was in top form. I thought CC got the subs spot on. Maja was invisible and Swift made us stronger in midfield, even though it made us drop deeper. It was also clever bringing Bartley on and shifting Heggem across, to make us stronger in the air at the back.  Special mention for Grant's goal. Excellent dribble and shot. Didn't think he could do that.

Not entirely sure what to make of that ! At times really good at times barely non league standard ! Started well after a first minute scare , got the goal and did keep going at them with Fellows looking like he’d give the LB twisted blood. Don’t know if it was the shorter turnaround time or whether we thought we were comfortable but the game changed and it needed a good save on half time to keep us in front.
Second half for the first15/20 mins they were much the better side but couldn’t locate the barn doors let alone the goals ! Grant then scored an absolute pearlier that steadied any nerves .
As the subs got in to the game we started to pass the ball much better and I thought comfortably controlled the last 10/15 mins
Grant MoM not just because of the goal he was just immense all game his fitness levels must be real top notch. Honourable mentions to Molumby , Holgate and Palmer as well .
Corberán got it spot on with his subs tonight. One thing I did notice if we play Holgate and Heggem as CBs it leaves us a bit on the weak side aerially from crosses and set pieces the more so if we take off Maja

Thought we were in control the whole game and took our chances for once. Coventry never really looked like scoring, and for once the substitutes seemed to make a positive impact on the whole. Bodes well for the upcoming fixtures knowing that we not only have a strong 11, but also 3 or 4 that can come off the bench and make a difference.

Whilst Cov had a few opportunities they never really looked like scoring.

I felt we were always in overall control of the game.

The only thing that mattered tonight was winning and now that monkey is off our back hopefully we will fly.

Palmer was great and did his job well.  Smothered a couple and a good save from the header 2nd half.

The defence was a bit shaky overall, Styles the standout.

Mowatt and Molumby sound.

Fellows fairly quiet but created some opportunities.  Johnston nothing really desperately needs a goal, hopefully at Watford.

Maja just not at the races tonight, looks absolutely knackered.  Vital we sign a striker in Jan, we simply have to write Dike off,  he can't be relied on and he'll probably breakdown again on his return.  That's imo what we have to assume and if not, it's an absolute bonus and dramatically increases our chances of promotion.

Grant played out of his skin again and goal of the season so far, a thing of beauty.

Thought Wallace and Swift were great and back to something like their true selves.

Ridiculous we have 6 games in 21  days but it is what it is - same for everyone.   Need to get Bartley and Maja fit and back to their best and maybe blood Frabotta at some point.  9 points from those 6 games would probably be a good return and keep us in contention.

1 - Watford
3 - Brizzle
1 - Derby
0 - Sheff U
3 - Preston
1 - Swans

Diangana should be back for Sunday and hopefully Dike available for Stoke on 18th Jan.

Problem is that it's not the same for everyone.   It's good for those who can finance a squad with a clutch of good subs but that isn't us.

Glad BTA got a good reception he did score some great goals for us and can't forget that Burnley game! I thought he did alright coming on a few dangerous crosses but wow Cov fans don't rate him at all

Anyway we played better Saturday and didn't win so swings and roundabouts but I feel like Racic poor finishing might cost us soon just no composure

JW had a good cameo I felt almost back to his old self. Swift started well and then faded. Grant POTS by far.

I echo what everyone has said about the subs, I am usually critical of Swift, fail to see what over MJ he usually offers but last night he played well, Wallace looked decent, Dobbin did OK but I agree best performance for us, Racic didn't have much time to do much, Bartley made up for his moment of madness by coming on and helping us see it out, maybe that's his role as the leader to help us see out, Carlos might not need to be so cautious then, Palmer had his best game in a while to, Styles is quickly becoming a favourite at the Shrine to, my mate said we should have signed him ages ago as he always rated him, if he isn't a LB he is certainly excelling there, he has the ball crossing ability of Leighton Baines anyone remember him and Baines was absolutely Fantastic, Baines could attack and defend which Styles can do to. Overall Fantastic night really enjoyed the game and Carlos is slowly after a bit of lul getting the most out of these players, he may finally be getting them all firing again and got people performing badly back to there best, showing why he is one of the best managers in the Championship

Nice to get the win although the underlying numbers from the game are a concern. Maybe in isolation you can put that down to game state but it was continuing a pattern that we have seen for a while now, namely that we do not create enough chances. I'm not so sure that is going to come with the confidence of a win, more that the win will mask some serious deficiencies.

I am concerned a little by our defence. Styles is a useful player however I'm not sure the fluidity he gives us offensively is worth the fragility at the back. However, I am also unenthusiastic about Holgate at centre back. Who knows, maybe Frabotta will come the fore (unlikley) and play left back with Heggem inside with Bartley but I won't be fully confident with Styles at left back or Holgate at centre back I don't think.

I agree about the underlying numbers - we haven't "won" a game on xG since Cardiff. Obviously single games are always at risk of having results that vary from theory, but over a longer sample size things do even out.

Really glad we got the win but you're right that it could mask some problems

I think Cov are a decent team and a most welcome 3 points helped by there lack of finishing
Palmers best game this season for me, commanded his box very well and a couple of good blocks and his kicking was spot on
At the back Heggem had a couple of shaky moments and styles with back post crosses but other than that ok
Midfield is where we lack balance still for me, in playing a front 4 we need more legs in there , a bit of an all rounder , like a mowatt who can run
I like mowatt but my god he runs in treacle but I suppose horses for courses, once swift came on with mowatt we kept the ball better and took the sting out of Cov
Difficult game Saturday I’d actually take a draw 😆
