Absolutely superb from the entire squad that one, we were brilliant, incisive and always a threat every time we had the ball. Palmer needs some serious work on his kicking, but that was the only negative for me.

The strength on our bench now is looking frightening considering our budgetary issues.

We have successfully cleared a load of the deadwood with the frees we let go and selling utter chaff like Townsend and BTA. I am a very happy Baggie

Apart from Palmer distribution that was an excellent performance and very entertaining. This team is capable of spanking teams when it clicks. Maja is linking our forward play so intelligently and bringing Grant and Fellows into the game more than usuall. Players will have to be at the top of their game of they want the shirt such is the competition for places.
We now look much stronger physically.

Fantastic.

Racic what a player he looked when he came on. If we don't finish top six this season I'll become a Dingle. I don't want to get too excited bit this team COULD be the real thing.
You don't want to become one of them even thinking that warrants your Head checking you must be confident.

Great Performance today. MJ nearly scored looked his usual self, Wallace looked lively, Grady looked OK to, Racic looks a steal, Heggem looked shaky at times but overall solid, Furlong  solid, Bartley this man is a tank and if we get promoted it's worth sticking him on the bench, Ajayi was solid, Molumby looked great, Mowatt Two Screamers won the ball well and turned it around, Swift was ok, Grant had moments linked up nicely, Fellows this kid just gets better has most Full backs on toast, Maja absolutely fantastic links up well should have a brace. Palmer needs to work on his distribution but he had nothing to do.

Overall absolutely brilliant keep this up and we are going up. I honestly believe Carlos has this team firing and Patel and the Recruitment staff have done absolutely amazing deals, what a great time to be a Baggie. UTA

It did feel scrappy, as Johnny says. Possibly one of those games where we rode our luck because we are currently on form. Second half our class showed, as I expected and that means were now top of the table and going into 3 home games in 4 in a very strong positoon, without yet looking at full flow.

Interesting to note that 5 games into the season and a few weeks after the transfer window closed, of Corberan's first 14 players used today, only 2 summer signings were included. The new(ish) 5 sub rule gives others a chance, but thats 7 summer signings today who didnt get a single minute on the pitch. It could be Corberan's attention driven nature that means he wants to take time getting them up to speed, but even with a long season I do have some doubts around how easy it will be for some of them to get many minutes.

A problem to assess later in the year though. Were top of the league and things are rosey right now.

We had two full internationals not able to make the bench today.  But the season is a slog.  The team looked absolutely knackered at times last year, running on fumes.  They will all get their game time.  Its tough to take not playing, but better to be part of a squad challenging at the top than playing every game and getting stuffed at the bottom.  Well imho anyway.

It's the old adage you don't change a winning team what those signings have done is provide serious competition for those out on the pitch who know they have to perform    to keep the shirt.

Grady just isn't doing it for me constantly runs into blind allies and loses the ball but other than that MJ & Jed looked pretty sharp coming on. Would like to see Dobin as a winger he seems to be deployed as a striker whenever he's come on.

Professional second half performance overall. Pompey just lacked qaulity in 1st half and we rode our luck, hard to not get carried away but hopefully we can just keep going game by game!

First half a little bit scrappy and to be fair that was down to a very energetic Portsmouth press. Second half a lot more controlled, Mowatt's goal took a lot of wind out of their sails. Maja looked impressive particularly his link up play. Overall a very satisfactory days work.

For what it is worth I think this team will get better.

First half their press caused us a lot of problems but they wouldn’t have been able to keep that up all game. After all their huffing and puffing our superiority came through. They look a decent little team though Portsmouth if they can find someone to put the ball in the back of the net they’ll be Ok.

Professional performance from us.

Excellent result and good display I thought. They had their moments, as the home side that is inevitable. But we got better and better as the game wore on. As others have said, Maja is excellent.

Great result and, overall, a really good performance.

Think a better team scores at least one, maybe two, in that 20-minute period of pressure in the first half. However, credit to our two CBs - they dominated aerially and never really looked troubled.

As said in the Mowatt thread, I thought he was sensational. He controlled that game second half and started most moves. Of course, his two goals are right out of the top drawer. Furlong was his usual consistent self, too.

Nice to see us turn into a bit of a 'team of ****housery'. Furlong right amongst it  ;D

Really, really positive stuff.

Three great goals and a clean sheet away from home cant ask for much more than that.

Bartley a real leader today. Some great build up play from Maja, Fellows etc

Only five games in. No BTA Yoksulu or Townsend and we look much better without them.

I only saw the first 70 minutes has had to go to work but other than Palmer playing mowatt into trouble a couple of times and Heggem being played into trouble a couple of times I thouroughly enjoyed that performance
A proper number 9 display by Maja his link up and hold up play was better than I thought he had in his locker
I’m going to praise a couple of players I hardly do, molumby and grant had good games and regardless of having better players waiting in the wings are worthy of continued selection if pulling their weight and we are winning
Today was probably Heggems poorest game so far but sometimes he was played the ball in poor positions and stuck to his task well
Furlong and Bartley very good and semi pretty solid
People still moan about swift but I rate him highly, always looking to get on the ball and rarely gives it away
Palmer had a day to forget with his distribution again
He needs to know when he can’t play the ball to feet to our midfield regardless of what they say, he can see the bigger picture and sometimes it has to be a basic long ball
Top of the league, unbeaten and arguably some players on the bench who will improve our starting eleven so plenty to be happy about

Great early goal but we then sat off Portsmouth and they got into some good positions without really looking like scoring. We could and probably should have had a couple more in the first half; Maja unlucky with his header and Grant and Fellows should have done better with chances.
Palmer had an off day but didn't really have anything to do and maybe that was why he was poor with his distribution.
Thought Heggem was below par, often out of position and I don’t remember him stopping any crosses into the box.
Mowatt was the pick of the midfield, Molumby was generally tidy but Swift was pretty anonymous. So far this season it seems that when Swift plays well Mowatt doesn't..and vice versa.
Front 3 all played well and are a real threat.
As others have said our bench has real quality now too.
We're top of the league on merit but I'm just going to quietly enjoy it rather than get carried away as there is far too much football left to play.

An excellent afternoon and kudos to the travelling support.

First half was a bit scrappy and for all Portsmouths endeavour we still should have been several goals ahead at half time. Unbelievable save to deny Maja a second. The back four were excellent at dealing with the abundance of crosses that came into the box.

Second half was much better and felt like a precession from there on in.

Mowatt was excellent - irrespective of his goals. He’ll claim man of the match just ahead of Kyle Bartley.

Agree. I think for all their huff and puff, Portsmouth didn't really pose the threats like we did and lacked ideas around our box. Most of the time this led to hopeful crosses or long-range shots rather than anything of substance. For me, the top 3 were Mowatt, Bartley and Furlong in that order.

Very positive performance.  Portsmouth had lots of possession in the first half but never really threatened.  The goals were very good.  We have loads of talent in our squad.  We have not even started to explore some of this talent yet.  Our aim should be automatic this year, but it is critical we keep Carlos.  He will be in demand in the Prem as the merry go round gets going.

Missed the first goal as Portsmouth obviously are not used to coping with a large away support so went looking for highlights to get to see Maja's goal and if to see it really wasn't 'over the line'
Highlights with some great AJ commentary

I think a better team maybe have scored a few against us first half. Second half we looked far more in control some very good performances; Maja, Molumby, Furlong, Fellows, Bartley and man of the match mowatt.

Thought Grant put in a shift but wasn't as effective yesterday as he had been. Wonder if MJ will be in next game. Also thought that Heggem looked like a cb at left back today- will we see Frambotta? Swift i thought was largely anonymous. Grady lucky to make the bench for me going forward, he runs down blind alleys too often.

Overall 3 points clean sheet top of the league. Bring on Plymouth

They pressed us well during the first half when Alex Palmer looked to be their most creative threat. Portsmouth huffed and puffed a lot but had their house blown down. There were times we cut straight through them and with a bit of luck we could have been out of sight before Mowatt's free kick. Cut out the sloppy mistakes and injuries permitting we'll be a genuine force to be reckoned with this season. COYB  8) .
