First test. I’m really not feeling confident but you never know. Hopefully we’ll perform much better in a competitive match. Absolutely would take a draw which would be a good start on the road.

Not going to lie I'm dreading this given the current state of our squad.

Our away form has been rank for years now and I can't see anything other than a loss here.

Would be delighted with a point and very, very surprised with three.

Making my way down to the smoke for this one, purely and simply as it's the first away game of the season. Looking forward to what our 'top half of the Championship squad' can do now that it's no longer 'one of the best in the division' as we embark on it's long overdue rejig. COYB  8) .
It doesn't matter how many resources you have.

Yes, it's hard to oppose this pessimistic view, the away form more than anything is just lingering in my thoughts. They'll be up for it, full house, I'm a bit concerned we go under. I don't like to say I would take a draw, particularly in the championship but expectations have significantly altered. Get through the first 20 minutes, frustrate them, might need a horrible performance to be honest.

I'm going, still have a tinge of hope, but really I think goal in first 10 and 3 goals conceded.

So here is my team prediction:

GK - Palmer

LB - Heggem
CB - Bartley
CB - McNair
RB - Furlong

LM - Wallace
CM - Mowatt
CM - Diakete
RM - Fellows

AM - Swift

ST - Maja

Bench: Taylor, Molumby (if eligible), Cole, Ajayi (plus kids)

Maybe it will change a bit by Saturday, either way it looks very lightweight if Molumby is banned.

Providing Frabotta signs he has to go straight into the team for me. If Molumby is available, with what we have right now I' go:

                         Palmer

Furlong  Bartley    Heggem    Frabotta

         Molumby Diakite  Mowatt
                                      Swift
Fellows             Maja

It's not ideal but I think that's the best we can do for now. I remember how we got pummelled there last season that's why I'd go with a three man midfield.

I think given CC is a system coach, as much as I'd love to see the new signings straight into the team, I'm not sure it will happen. Carlos will want all of them fully up to speed on what their role is, and the patterns of play they are involved in

Agree with that, plus fitness will need assessment, might see them in cup first

Yes, CC won't risk players whom he doesn't think are fit enough or attuned to his tactics.  What is the fitness of Frabotta, McNair?  Dobbin has been training with the Vile but he's had a couple of moves Everton - Villa - Albion.  The different ideas of 3 coaches must be whirling around in his head?  How cohesive is the centre back pairing - not very on last week's evidence?

We won't be able to judge the success or otherwise of this recruitment session until the middle of September.

On the striker level, it's possible to play without an out and out striker if the rest of the team  can score.  We might rely on set plays.

A lot have gone and a fair few have come in, and there has not been nearly enough time for the best 11 to have been sorted out yet, let alone gelling. There will also be players who will be sold if possible and they will know who they are, which impacts on motivation + players who can be expected to go out on loan. Add to that the fact that there will be at least 3 or 4 new signings still to come in, and it all looks a bit chaotic at the moment, so I expect us to lose against QPR - in fact I'll be astonished if we don't. That's not to say I'm pessimistic about the season ahead because I'm not. We needed to do what we are doing though, getting the wage bill down and decreasing the average age, but the downside is that it will take time to get the new team bedded in. I'm very much resigned to a poor start and a gradual improvement.

Does anyone have any info on if/how I-Follow or some alternate accredited streaming service will work for this game and the coming season? The OS currently says "No packages are currently available in your country." Hoping to catch the game even with a 4.30am KO here on the left coast of the USA! Having caught some of the 2nd half at Blues last Saturday, I am fearful for the early games this season but hope the new players can get up to speed soon... as always: COYB!!

I got the impression the incentive for part of the new sky deal was to take ifollow and some illegal streams out of the equation, at least in the uk.  It won’t stop prirate streaming though, arguably it makes it easier.

As for the game, I’d take a point now. Cant see a win so would snatch your hands off for a draw.

I’m expecting frabotta, dobbin and Cole to be on the bench
Any news regarding McNair,Wallace and diangana regarding fitness?
If none of those 6 above are available and we start with something similar to the blues match I can see a resounding defeat
I’m expecting QPR to be in and around the top ten this season

McNair I’ve seen and heard nothing, Wallace has had a scan and apparently is worse than expected and will be out for 5-7 weeks according to dood (who’s generally good on the medical news front) and Grady is back in training but id not expect him to be ready to start, possibly bench.

I think Frabotta will start, CC wants Heggem in the CB pairing and getting a new LB in after losing Townsend was top of the list above all else, he’s also had a preseason with Juve. CC apparently REALLY likes Dobbin in training, so he may start but I’d expect him to be a sub. Cole was always going to be a sub, he’s the 3rd choice striker for this season (4th if you want to include Dike), we’re just in the process of getting a new main striker in.
